Wii U

Wii U - 07/10/12 05:07 PM

It's official; Assasin's Creed 3 is in the initial lineup for the Wii U, followed by Mass Effect 3, Ninja Gaiden 3, Darksiders 2, and Tekken Tag Tournament 2. Oh... and did I forget to mention New Super Mario Bros. U and Pikmin 3? Woops.
Posted by: Cheap One

Re: Wii U - 07/10/12 05:31 PM

They took out Batman? Cause Reggie was hyping it up like crazy at E3.

With only Pikmin 3 of any interest to me, I think I will hold off on the WiiU till the line up improves. I do plan on getting it at some point. If not before Zelda WiiU, then when it does finally get announced.

Re: Wii U - 07/10/12 08:45 PM

No, Batman: Arkham City-Armored Edition is on the roster of relese titles (first 10 to come out with the system). I was just naming a few that stuck out in my mind after I read the Nintendo Power Wii U article. Sorry, I was still a little excited after reading the latest article on Last Story for the Wii; due out shortly. I mean c'mon; created by Hironobu Sakaguchi of Final Fantasy fame, with music composed by Nobuo Uematsu. A full blown Japanese RPG incoporating real time combat game mechanics such as environmental interaction, finding cover, stealth movement, snd sniping.

Re: Wii U - 08/01/12 11:59 AM

I saw some more screenshots for Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, due out on the Wii U this holiday season... wow. Apparently there's going to be dismemberment... and entrail spilling, gruesome! It'll be my first Ninja Gaiden experience since the 80's; it looks amazing, and I quote: "If Ryu Hayabusa's blades don't wipe out his foes, his ninja magic will."

Re: Wii U - 08/01/12 01:11 PM

They added dismemberment? Damn Hayashi. I haven't been following news on Ninja Gaiden 3 on the Wii U, might double dip when I get a Wii U.

The red arm is a cursed placed on him right at the start of the game called "The Grip Of Murder" The story of the game is all about that and the guy that places it on Ryu Hayabusa.

For AC3? Yes, but I will go ahead and just get it on my xbox360 like I have AC, 2, Brotherhood and Revelations on

3DS is a nice system I got one when DOAD and OOT3DS came out on it. It is a nice little system, but I don't play with the 3D on.

Re: Wii U - 08/07/12 09:33 PM

I have no idea, I mainly play it at home with it plugged in. Only bring it out in the wild when I have to go somewhere I will have to wait for awhile like the bank, shopping and such.

Then I am mainly playing DOAD and you get huge frame drops with the 3D and the effect is really only seen during the opening poses and when it says Winner/Loser at the end of the match.

Edit: I've seen the big one. Would hate to bring that one out in the wild. 3DS already barely fits in my pockets.

Coming out on 11/18 with two different versions available. One for $300 (core) and a deluxe version for $350. Ouch!

I wonder if Sony and Microsoft are going to do a price drop on their consoles this Fall?

I rewatched it a couple of times last night in between all the DOA5 updates

At the 1:45 mark I do see Hayabusa impaling a guy with what looks like just a staff. I don't see any blade on it, but it does appear each end has a huge blunt ball.

Edit: Personally I am a little sad there is no claw weapon. Those were always fun to use in the older Ninja Gaidens. Ayane being playable is a nice addition though. Makes me wonder if Kasumi and Hayate will show up as well.

Okay, Nintendo I want to like you again, but this is not helping at all. WiiU is looking to be more and more like Nintendo has learned nothing. Oh well, I am okay with just getting it when Zelda comes out like I did the GameCube and Wii. Plus it will be cheaper by then anyway.

Re: Wii U - 11/14/12 01:48 PM

The Wii U is looking less interesting by the day. Not only do we need to pay $300 to $350 for the system, but it looks like the built in drive is pretty much useless.

The 8GB (actually 7.2GB) and the 32GB (actually 29GB) drives have been rounded up and the system will require 4.2GB for itself. That means you only have 3GB of memory to work with if you buy the $300 model.

Nintendo recommends buying an external USB hard drive if you plan to buy DLC or games from its digital store.

So we are in the same situation as the Wii. Where if you wanted to buy Wiiware and/or Virtual Console games it was much better to put them on an SD Card.

Re: Wii U - 11/14/12 04:54 PM

Wii-U VC stuff won't go onto an SD card, only Wii VC stuff. I'm get the deluxe model & will probably grab an external USB harddrive for it. Fortunately the machine can take pretty much any external USB memory & they're pretty cheap.

I'm probably financially unable to enter the next generation of Nintendo, at least on a preorder basis at this time. I'm also a bit distressed by the upcoming dissolution of Nintendo Powert Magazine. Furthermore, I didn't buy into Nintendo's last handheld, the 3DS either. Although I've owned every other iteration of the DS and loved every one. I'm thinkin' 'bout tryin' to get my hands on a DSXL.

...Anyhoo Gevin, I'll be keepin' my eyes peeled for your thoughts on the Wii U here at Anime Today if I can't afford it myself. Hope you keep us abreast of it's awesomeness.

Re: Wii U - 11/19/12 09:45 AM

The console is awesome. I've only been messing with the menus, transferring data, and Nintendo Land so far, but everything is just really awesome.
My only complaint would be load times. It can take a while for certain sections to load for you. Hopefully this will change when the servers are less stressed. ..or perhaps a firmware update could preinstall a few sections, leading to less wait.

It sounds to me like Nintendo is really steppin' up to the plate in the realms of connectivity and graphics. I'm curious as to what effect this will have on the console war.
Posted by: Gevin

Re: Wii U - 11/22/12 12:00 PM

Nintendo Land - a lot of really fun mini games. Nothing will probably beat Wii Sports' awesome Tennis game, but there are still a bunch of great quality minigames here. There are certainly more quality games worth playing here than were available in either of the Wii Sports titles.

Zombi-U - oh my god, this game is amazing. Survival mode allows to be basically "one life" it & see how far you can get without dying. The other mode (I forget the name of) is the same game but allow you to respawn as a new survivor to pick up where you left off in the event that you die (a good way to complete the campaign story with much less frustration). Death comes swift and harsh in Zombi-U, but the game remains fun & it's cool delving deeper into the game to complete missions.

Mario-U - very fun classic Mario gameplay. I'm also a fan of the challenges that the game offers. If I had any complaint, it would be that I really wish I could view the records set by my friends in the challenges. Without their records, I'm simply trying to beat my own personal highscore or acquire the gold medal. Being able to play on both the television as well as the game pad can really free you up. Good stuff.

Sonic All Star Racers - Cool game with some awesome flashy tracks. Haven't played this online or with any sort of multiplayer yet, but I'm anxious to do so.

Wii U is easily my new favorite console, trumping the PS3.

Re: Wii U - 11/25/12 02:11 AM

Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper is awesome. They have so many different characters from other games now. I also like Zombie U. I didnt get Assassin Creed 3 for the Wii U because I bought the PS Vita Assassin Creed 3 addition on black friday lol. If anyone want the Wii U go with the 32gb the update is 5gbs and then theres another one coming up from what I was told. So the 8gb one gets used up fast

Legend Of Zelda: Wind Waker WiiU
Posted by: kiku

Re: Wii U - 01/23/13 02:16 PM

I truly loved the Wind Waker experience on the Cube. I had (ignorantly) avoided the title for years after it's release due to fans' dismay at the cartoony graphics. This was a mistake on my (and their?) part. The Wind Waker is a beautiful and enchanting adventure of epic proportions. Leaf gliding, exploring distant dungeons at sea, battling hulking knights using their own swords against them; I could go on and on. I'm ever thankful that I still have this title and my Cube.
Posted by: Cheap One

Re: Wii U - 01/23/13 03:43 PM

I still have Wind Waker GCN edition as well. I do look forward to this release of it though.

OTT 3DS is such a huge improvement over the old OOT that it almost makes OOT N64 edition unplayable. I'm hoping Nintendo can do that with this release of WW.

The main improvement I will be looking for is traveling. King Of Red Lions is so slow and the ocean is far too big.

Also would like to see improvements on the 2nd quest. Now I know we will not see Double Damage & Mirrored like we seen in OOT MQ 3DS. Though I would like a better 2nd quest then what we seen in the original WW.

Re: Wii U - 01/23/13 04:32 PM

I had the GCN version of Master Quest as well. Though it is a lot easier. As it isn't mirrored or double damage.

That mirrored causes all kind of problems. At first I was even lost in Hyrule Field.

Nope. I don't have anyone to play it with me. I'm the only person I know with a Cube, let alone the only one that still plays Zelda. Tried getting my little cousin into Zelda, but he doesn't like the puzzle aspect of it. He just likes putting in my Twilight Princess and going around killing everything with the Master Sword. For awhile he wouldn't even touch Skyward Sword till I beat it and kept a copy of the beaten file for him to play around on. He still barely wants to play it as he sucks at the motion controls.

Re: Wii U - 01/24/13 11:34 PM

Short attention span theatre... the sad state of affairs today. You've gotta work for your Master Sword. It's not the destination, but the journey. BTW IIRC you don't need anybody else to play Four Swords. It's a one player game, but you can link cable Gameboy Advances up to the Cube to play with others.

Nintendo and I have parted ways. I needed more from my relationship and Nintendo simply refuses to grow up and change. Not that this is a complaint, but it's clearly evident we grew apart.

Even the Wii U can't save this relationship now. Besides, I find that controller one of the worst I've seen and I'm really disappointed they walked away from the setup of the Wii, which was simply awesome.

I'll miss Nintendo, but I don't believe the feeling is mutual.

Re: Wii U - 02/05/13 07:49 AM

I haven't joined the Wii U generation either, which is surprising; considering their lineup of sweet titles. I think my apprehension is a combination of financial woe and the fact that I love the "setup of the Wii" as well. For the record, I haven't gotten a 3DS either; which is also a surprise considering I have just about every previous system Nintencdo ever released still in working order. I heard the system has a penchant for bogging down when you "turn up" the 3D. Where's the fun in that?

I've been staying with Nintendo for Zelda, and so far it has worked out nicely. As I have bought the GC and Wii at the end of their life cycle, so I got them for cheap and only had to pay full price for Zelda which I am okay with doing.

I went ahead and picked up the 3DS after the first price drop to get DOAD and OOT 3DS and I have been enjoying my 3DS.

It's not too surprising. Most gamers buy a Nintendo system for Nintendo games, not for games by 3rd party companies.

The only thing that's going to increase Wii-U sales is Nintendo themselves. Many of my friends are waiting for the next Zelda game to release, before they buy the system.

I share this thought. I didn't buy a GameCube till Twilight Princess. Then I bought a Wii when Skyward Sword was announced at E3. And outside of the launch "exclusives" that many are no longer exclusive I was planning to do the same thing with the WiiU.

Just kind of wish Nintendo consoles could improve and not stay stuck as an also ran, like they have been since the N64 gen. Oh well though, I'll still get their stuff to play Zelda. Plus it helps that I can wait for atleast one price cut.

Re: Wii U - 07/08/13 10:34 PM

While I think the WiiU could stand some massive improvements I think the Wii was the best system put out since the SNES. Quite frankly during the whole N64 thing I switched over to Sony and I hardly ever used my Gamecube. Mostly because I wasn't impressed by the graphics and I thought the controller configuration sucked. I don't want to have to contort my hand six ways til Sunday just to press a button. Although I think I'll stick with them for the duration if only because they're pretty much the only system that realizes that not everyone who plays video games is a "Hardcore 1337 Gamerz dood".
Posted by: kiku

Re: Wii U - 07/09/13 06:47 PM

I love my Wii too! I disagree regarding the Gamecube controller however. It is my favorite controller of all time. I swear it melts into my hands when I use it. As far the the WiiU is concerned and the rest of this upcoming gaming season/era for that matter, I'm gonna save a penny; and not join in. I've mentioned it elsewhere, but I simply can't afford to join this generation. Plus, I've got sooo many great games just waiting to be played on my older systems/handhelds. Some of them, I haven't played for so long; that they'll seem like they're new again. Oh yeah, I've just discovered The Legend Of Zelda The Spirit Tracks. I just got smeared by a Phantom Train! OMG this game is freakin' awesome!

I thought it was perfect for Super Mario 64. I remember spending long nights partaking of nefarious substancess whilst deftly running full bore around corners on tightrope sized platforms and handling the camera with ease. Now that I think about it, my friends and I collected more than the listed maximum coins on more than half of the levels. I made that game my b????. I also figured out how the swan dive off of the top of Cool Cool Mountain, all the way down to the secret area under it. Memories...

Not to mention, most games used those camera buttons as extra command/action buttons. I think only a handful of games actually used those camera buttons as they intended to be.

Yeah! The N64 controller was very funky, but it worked really well for certain games.

N64 controller was the worst controller hands down for me as well. Gamecube I don't really have a problem with, the only real downside was the dpad. But most games on it didn't really even use it.

Personally I am hoping they will drop the price around the time the PS4 & X-Box One come out.
Just to "stick it" to Sony & Microsoft.

I kinda gave up on Nintendo right before the N64.
Cause I was tired of paying $50-$70 for a cartridge game.
Sony PS1 came along with the right stuff at the right time.
However about the time the PS3 came out, Sony was doing the same thing.
IE charging way too much for games.

So I got a DS (and later a Wii).
Now I don't even play the Wii at all.
My DS is still working, but I mostly play the 3DS.
Hopefully I will be able to use the DS to transfer Pokemon to the new X & Y game. Don't care if I have to skip a few that became "fairy" Pokemon.
I can catch those in the new game.

That's right folks another new type of Pokemon!
Fairy type is good against Dragon.

Old favorites like Clefairy are this new type.
Plus some new ones as well.

LOL, this wouldn't "stick it" to Sony or Microsoft. They are going after two totally different people and Nintendo made that very clear at this years E3.

It appears the major thing Nintendo learned from the Wii generation is they are best suited with their console being a Nintendo box. People that will buy a PS4 and/or an Xbox1 this holiday are not even thinking about a WiiU.
