What anime titles are on your Blu-ray (BD) wish list? Are they already on BD? If you don't own a BD player, which anime title(s) would convince you to buy one?
I don't have any anime BDs yet. I would definitely buy Gunbuster if it becomes available. I'd buy a Miyazaki box set too.

Utena would be the title I'd most want, especially after seeing the nice package being put together for the anniversary release in Japan. Though I'd likely be buying the discs and have to hold onto them for a few years, since I doubt I'll be upgrading my hardware anytime before 2010. But I have no issue stockpiling releases in anticipation! I'm also looking forward to Bebop on Blu, just for fun. And the Kon movies. Millennium Actress on Blu would be purty.

I'm waiting to see where studios go with full series releases, quantity of episodes or quality of picture.
I'm waiting for Vexille or Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence to arrive on Blu-ray.

Yes, the new DVD and Blu-ray disks will have an English spoken language track by the same cast as GitS Solid State Society. It is good times.

...though I doubt that I'll purchase second copies of series that I already have on DVD. Well, there might be one exception... a box set of Cowboy Bebop on BD would be nice. Like other older series, it probably doesn't need the Blu-ray treatment, but it's a sentimental favorite. [/color] i would say that all anime could use a Blu treatment, but that's the home theater-phile whore junkie in me :P there are a ton of anime titles that would look gorgeous remastered on Blu, but whether or not we will get them is another story. if a series i like/want/already have gets a Blu rerelease, i would rebuy it, trade in my old dvds and get at least a bit of credit. it's better then none at that point. it wouldn't be the first time i have rebought an anime

i would say that all anime could use a Blu treatment, but that's the home theater-phile whore junkie in me :P Heh, I have that same audiophile/videophile snob-demon whispering in one ear, but the accounting fairy whispering in my other ear wins her share of battles.
As I began building my video collection, I concentrated on older films that wouldn't benefit as much from high-definition (1930s gangster films, 1940s & 1950s Film Noir, 1950s Sci-Fi, etc.), buying those on relatively inexpensive DVDs, while holding off on modern films (generally, mid-1970s forward) until BDs hit the market. Granted, if they were available now, and at reasonable prices, I'd prefer every title in high-definition, but it's so much more cost-effective to buy older films on DVD, as I have too many other interests competing for my hobby budget.
Anime is a bit different. I want to see the new releases now, and there's no telling if/when current releases will get high-definition transfers, so I'm not waiting for Blu-ray. We can't even get some titles (Monster) on DVD in this country. Whenever the studios start releasing new titles on BD, I'll start buying them instead of DVDs (as I did with Paprika, which looks beautiful in high-definition), but I simply can't justify going back and replacing all of my anime DVDs with the new format. I'm with you in spirit, though.
So, to make a short story long, I'm not really looking forward to re-releases on BD; I'm looking forward to all of the new anime releases being available on BD in the first place.

For most recent anime TV series, I don't think it'll make a difference if they're remastered for Blu-Ray or not. They're mainly composed for standard definition TV sets to save storage space and sent out as digital files now to tape or disc. Who knows how many of these series actually go out on film anymore?
Of course, that's changing with digital shows done in the past few years, but most shows done before '05 are strictly standard-def TV series.
Already, there have been shows remastered for Blu-Ray that had no business being redone for Blu-Ray! These are more recent series like Yukikaze which was composed for standard definition TV sets and never intended for hi-def. The way that show was redone it actually ended up loosing details in its upconversion to Blu-Ray and looked softer.
A lot of older series and movies which actually benefit from the move to Blu-Ray since they're saved on film stock (16mm for TV shows or 35mm for theatrical releases) as opposed to digital files like Yukikaze. The main bugaboo about older shows is the need to clean dirty frames, stabilize shifting frames, and be wary of the temptation to clean up that "nasty film grain."
Film grain is already becoming an issue with older film release to Blu-Ray conversion in the US and no doubt it'll affect Japanese releases as well. If companies are stupid enough to go tinkering with film grain, it'll actually remove details from films! I've already seen this happening with standard def releases that went through digital video noise reduction (DVNR).
DVNR is one of the worst things that can happen to animation since the logarithms in the video restoration programs used can't distinguish between scratches and thin inklines in animation! It's affected the AnimEigo releases of Macross as well as WB animation DVD releases.
The temptation to tinker with film grain for Blu-Ray releases will make DVNR seem mild by comparison. There are just some things that should be left alone on film...

The real advantage to Bluray conversion for existing releases is the likely-hood the conversion will be of higher quality than the consumer will achieve at home. Of course for people with high-end up-scalers this is not a benefit, but for most, the cost to acquire high-end hardware appears to be very steep when looking at the cost of re-acquiring some titles in newer formats.
I want a very good up-scaler since the cost associated with replacing my existing video collection is well in excess of the cost of hardware.
The unfortunate portion of this tale is the fact that many commercial companies have yet to master encoding in the new hi-def codecs.

It's affected the AnimEigo releases of Macross as well as WB animation DVD releases. You know, I sort of noticed some tinkering on the DVD release of Gunbuster which was remastered in HD (HD 24P). The faces looked different almost if they had been redrawn. Gunbuster is an older anime with fine sketching in the faces.
