Just in general (and since you were their customer sevice), how about the entire Geneon catalog? (yes, it's a big request, but none could handle them better)
Many of us were hoping fervently that TRSI/Nozomi was setting up such a relationship with Dentsu/Geneon, but it seems like that won't be happening. Not on a catalog-wide scale, certainly.
Robert from Robert's Anime Corner Store posted a update to his news/blog site saying that yes, Geneon is in talks with someone. He knows who it is (I bet Shawne and company do too, and probably Chris Beveridge at Anime on DVD and some others). Of course he can't go blurting out such secrets to us.
But what he was willing to say is the following, from his May 9th update:
I'm still getting a half dozen e-mails each week from folks wondering when Geneon's old titles will be back on the market. Anime fans are consummate optimists. :-) I actually do have an update of sorts, and I have not mentioned anything up until now because I didn't want to get anyone's hopes up - but what the heck, here goes. Geneon has been in serious talks with a major US home entertainment distributor for about the past three months to get their titles back on the street. I know exactly who it is, how far along they are, and the details that are going to make or break the deal. The trouble is I can't make any of that info public without jeopardizing our relationship with the new company, but perhaps it's helpful to let you guys know that there is something serious in the works. Whether the deal is completed or not remains to be seen, and I would advise everyone to not get their hopes up, but I will tell you this:
* If we don't hear anything by mid-summer we probably won't hear anything.
* Even if a major deal is struck, it won't involve Geneon's entire catalog circa Sept 2007. The new company will cherry pick those releases like people at Ruby Tuesday pick over the salad bar.
* The 'major distributor' they are in talks with is NOT one of the existing US Anime studios.
Emphasis on the last part added. Unless he's just blowing smoke (unlikely), that rules out TRSI (and Bandai and ADV and MB and Funi and Viz and...)
So we can give up on the "this ought to make everyone happy" hint having anything to do with a large-scale Geneon deal. They may still, however, save a few individual Geneon shows... Nanoha, Shawne? =P
I find it disheartening and more than a little disappointing, because the idea of, say, Sony getting a hold of Geneon's catalog sounds almost as bad as it not being rescued at all. But alas, time will tell, and if I can somehow, SOMEHOW get the rest of their unfinished releases (and Nanoha), I'll be happy.
