I've read that some titles will be getting released in the coming months. So we shouldn't have to wait too long to see something come from this deal.

That has recently changed. Their latest Viridian Collection releases have been in thinpak box sets.

I'd heard that, but you know you've always got people complaining about something. I haven't seen them myself, though, so I didn't know if I should take the complaints about the thinpaks seriously or not.

Funimation further confirmed that the details are all up to Geneon. They don't know (or just can't say) what plans are going forward, if it will just be for the incomplete shows or if Geneon will stick around and continue to release their back catalog and/or acquire new licenses. I'm obviously hoping they stick around. Someone needs to pin down some Geneon reps and question them extensively.

And just for fun, because I had a lot of fun that trip:
Quote:
From Otakon 2004:
Geneon rep at panel: As you all know, we've recently taken on a new name. We used to be Pioneer, now we're Geneon. That's pronounced Gen-ee-on. Now, how do you pronounce it?
Crowd in room: Pioneer! grin

I have some of the Viridian collection releases in the cardboard packaging. They are every bit of the problem you've heard, or at least mostly. They had lots of trouble with the packaging getting damaged and bent up when shipping to stores and the package I purchased had some disks which had been scratched. I'm not a fan cardboard storage sleeves for DVDs and this only shows why.

It would not surprise me if they used dual-disk thin pack boxes like they did with Lupin III First Haul and Final Haul box sets to minimize packaging costs.

I actually like the dual disc thinpaks that were used in the Stellvia collection. They looked great and all the cover art was retained by using both pictures on the outside and putting the specs on the reverse of the cover.

Another blurb out of the Funi panel: Singles pricing on the Geneon discs will be in line with typical Geneon releases. Box sets will come down closer to what Funimation typically releases. (Me - Whoohoo, cheaper box sets!!!)

For those who recall, Geneon's discs were about $1-$2 more than their competitors, but that was due to their retail discount being lower, not the MSRP of the disc which was the same as everyone else's. Does changing distributor change the retail discount?

shweet!!! laugh

oh hush you.

as for the cardboard viridian packs, i just slimpak them anyway so it's no big deal to me really. i wouldn't mind double disc slimpaks where each side holds a dvd for 2 total. and i am all for cheaper box sets.
overall, very nice news ^_^

Of course i can't reveal my sources (from another reatilers site grin), but that was the latest news to come out so far. Whether it will actually happen is another story. However it will be good to see some Geneon titles back in print again.

well, so long as aodvd and ann are in the know with FUNi, then august is supposed to be when we start seeing lost geneon titles showing up again. my guess would be that with such immediate releases, they will be already completed geneon series where all they gotta do is encode, press, package, and distribute.

just my 2 cents smile

We've already got information on the first slate of releases: details

Basically, Funi perfectly nailed it and is doing absolutely everything they possibly could right. I love them more than a little bit right now.

I think so too. With them able to distribute so soon after, they probably been working on this deal for a while.
