Since the Tokyo pop sale is going on I ordered a bunch of stuff.

Lament of the Lamb volumes 1-7 (complete series)
Beck volumes 7-9
Prince of Tennis volumes 17-21 (ok it's not tokyopop but give me a break)

That's about 15 manga.

I might sell a couple of games and comics, and try to make another order.

Just read:

Ghosttalkers Daydream vol. 1
Your and my Secret vol.1
Kieli vol.1

'Ghosttalkers Daydream' is edgy and very adult at times.

'Your and My Secret' is funny and... just wrong sometimes.

'Kieli' is dark and interesting. You have an orphan girl disenfranchised and made to feel like an outsider among her own kind. She meets an immortal man thats being hunted by the authorities. A man she has been told all her life to fear. A man who is an abomination and will bring untold misery and death to all that see him. She nearly brings about his destruction and in the end falls in love with him.
Wait. Isn't that the plot to 'Immortal Rain'?

They're all pretty good books.

You're and My Secret originally came out quite a few years ago. well, vol 1 did, and then absolutely nothing for months, then years. i don't know who has the license and/or is releasing it now, but quite a few of us were rather frustrated about it being dropped for so long.

but, the being so wrong sometimes is what makes it so freaking ROTFLMAO hilarious laugh

i am very excited this manga is back for round 2.

Your and My Secret volume 2 is my most recent manga purchase. It's hilarious!

I was VERY frustrated when that original hiatus took place. I was beginning to lose hope it would ever be finished.

Just finished:

Le Chevalier d'Eon Vol.4
Dominion: Conflict 1
Golgo 13 Vol.6
Your and My Secret Vol.2
Love Com Vol. 2
High School Debut Vol. 2

I end up reading a lot of Shojo Beat titles because my daughter collects them and says I would like them. Most of the time she's right.
I love Shirow Masamune's works but they take me longer to absorb them than other manga.

I just put in a fairly manga heavy order, which is odd as I tend to buy a lot more anime. Recently though, I've just been in the mood to read (and, working long hours recently it is easier to lay down in my bed and read at night then stay up and watch any DVDs.) That said, I just bought:

Love*Com volume 1-6
MeruPuri volume 2, 4 (3 isn't available frown )

Hey Shinji this is off topic but I love your avatar and Signiture. Thats Reno and Rude right? I love those two, there so funny. I'm sorry, I'm just a big fan of Final Fantasy 7 and all compilations. Did you play Crisis Core? It's sad that Zack had to die without seeing Aerith again. I could go on and on. Anyways, I hope that Square releases Final Fantasy 7 for the PS3.

Trigun volume 2. Needed to hit the $50 mark on an order, was ~$9 short... I have volume 1 anyway, so I figured, what the heck.

I never bought any of the Fruits Basket manga before and now I want to. Should I buy the ultimate editions, the seperate volumes, or wait to see if Tokyopop will release some kind of box set like Viz did with Naruto and Bleach? I would love to here what you guys suggest.

For the sake of pricing I would guess that the Ultimate Editions are the way to go. I'm not sure how many there are out for it though. I know I've seen at least 2 when I was at a Borders the other day (which consisted of 6 volumes of the manga.)

Just bought MeruPuri vol. 3 (2/4 got from RightStuf, but they didn't have 3, so now I've got that finished off.) Also, A.I Love You vol. 8. I haven't even started reading the series yet, but my sister has been enjoying it. I'll have to get around to it sometime.

Just finished reading Kare Kano and I'm nearly caught up on Berserk so I indulged a bit and finished out my Lone Wolf & Cub set and picked up a couple of short series, Translucent and Tanpenshu, that struck me as potentially interesting.

After watching the first episode of the anime and thinking it was decent, but nothing special I was surprised by how much I adore the manga. It makes me want to go back and watch more of the anime.

I personally enjoyed the anime. So I was thinking about getting the manga. By the way you talk about it, the manga is good. Thanks for the tip. Now I'll be sure to get it before the Viz sale ends.

Recently got Dorothea Vol.4. This series has some basis in historical fact, but just barely. For those that have been reading the series know about the enemy army of the Waldenses and how they are protrayed. A little more information:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waldenses
Also for those interested here are some pictures I took around my hometown.

The Waldensian Museum just up the street from the Post Office.

There is also an outdoor drama in town that each summer tells the story of the Waldenses from the times of persecution till they came to the U.S. I've been in the drama serveral times (playing Waldensians of course) and my daughter worked with the drama for the first time this past summer. I hope some of the people reading this manga series find this interesting.

Anyone know if Elfen Lied manga is avail anywhere? I read on wiki that there are only 12 vols out and there are some differences between the manga and anime, so i thought that i would check it out. Tho it does seem that it is pretty hard to come by now.

I think I mentioned while I was watching the anime that, for me, reading the manga actually made me enjoy the anime even more.

The manga has a lot more stories to it (in general each chapter/story in the manga is fairly self-contained, in that you could read a few out of order and not necessarily be confused by what you are reading) and there are some slight changes from manga to anime (the kiss being one) but in general they are similar. Any time a chapter (or chapters) in the manga is converted to an episode for the anime, they stay pretty close to what happened. I think, if you like the anime already you should definitely pick up a volume or two and see if you think all the "extra" content in the manga is worth it for you. For me, having more Wallflower to consume is great in any form.

Is Sunako drawn as superdeformed in the manga as often as she is in the anime? It my opinion, it's gets old in the anime, seeing her that way 90% of the time.

I agree with Stefanie on this one. While it is...cute to see her that way, but in just about every ep? It would have been nice to see the "normal" sized version a little more often instead of the small version.

I would say she is drawn more often "normal" sized in the manga simply because the story calls for it (as there is a lot more story to be had.) That said, even in the manga she is drawn SD for most of it.

However, I will say that I appreciated it much more in the manga, and this is one particular item where I think the manga makes the anime better. If you read all the author's notes, etc. about the drawing I think it provides a better view of why she is drawn this way (and also why "background" characters are drawn as humanoid "blobs", etc.)

That particular issue was a mild annoyance for me when I watched the first part of the anime, prior to reading any of the manga, and after reading the manga I found it to enhance the humor in the second half of the anime. Your experience may vary, but that was my take on it.

As I mentioned, I'd check out a volume or two for yourself before jumping in and buying everything available, that will give you a much clearer take on how such issues may hit you.

I enjoyed it, but probably more because I haven't read Emma yet. She admits that the quality of Shirley is not as good as Emma.

But I don't know, I enjoyed it anyway. It was what I expected, sweet, cute and light, though the stories could have been more fleshed out. I did think she was adorable twirling around in front of the mirror when she got her uniform. smile

Are you thinking of getting it?

Yeah. Been debating on this one for a little while, though i've heard similar things to what you said about the characters not being fleshed out as it could have been. But i think that i just might go and get it next time i get a chance to.

From Del Rey sale:

Wallflower 21 (pre-order)
Suzuka 1-12
Mamotte! Lollipop 1-7
Pichi Pichi Pitch 1-7

My sister put the last 2 series on there many months ago when I told her to go through and pick out all the manga she might want me to get on the last Del Rey sale. They've been sitting in my shopping cart saved since then, so now is the perfect time to get them and still come in under the dollar amount I wanted to spend on this sale ($200.)

Though I'm sure I'll end up reading them as well they aren't on the top of my list. Has anyone read them and could tell me if I'm going to be missing much by skipping them for a while?

Also, as a side note, I bought Hayate the Combat Butler 1-10 a while ago and am currently finishing number 6. It might not be for everyone, but I am constantly laughing while reading it, if you don't mind constant breaking of the fourth wall, I recommend picking it up.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei, vol.1

Good stuff, though the translation seems a little clunky in some areas.

I'd just started collecting Emma by Kaoru Mori and realized that beginning with the 5th volume they are extremely hard to find. Has anyone heard whether this series has been discontinued? I'm gonna be bummed out.

There are some still out there tho it's vol 7 that is the hardest to come by right now that i saw. Glad i got mine when i did or else i'd be in trouble myself! When vol 9 gets released i'll need to get that one before that gets hard to come by.

Picked up Mamoru the Shadow Protector 1-3 in the DrMaster sale not long ago and finished those three. It was a fun read. I wish the light novels and anime were available as I'd be interested in checking them out.

Also picked up from that sale:

Magic Lover's Tower 1-2
Junk 1-7

Which I haven't started yet. A few others I picked up from the sale haven't come in yet.

I also got Y Square in from the Yen Press sale and finished it. The art is great, among the best that I've seen, but the writing is...well...mediocre would be generous. Luckily the art does make it readable, especially as it is short.

I just bought Solanin from Viz. Cute. Looking forward to read through the whole thing.
Ral & Grad wasn't too spectacular, but I love Obata's art work and I just have to buy it.

I'm sad because I went to Borders yesterday and they had NOT ONE volume of any of the series I'm collecting.

However, they did move the manga section to the middle of the store right next to the Customer Service desk so there weren't a ton of kids to step over and the shelves looked nice and clean. So it wasn't all bad.

I used to work at the Waldenbooks (Borders Group) at our local mall. I kept the shelves full of the good stuff. Since I left, their selection has gotten horrible and they keep shrinking the section. I get most of my manga now from Rightstuf.smile
The manga buyer for Borders left the company and started Yen Press. That could be a chief reason they no longer seem to care about manga.

It was a last minute add for me! I was re-reading volume one of OMG! and it was mentioned in the notes. So I did a quick search and it ended up being the last item of my order. Hopefully I will see it soon but from what I hear Dark Horse is notoriously slow in restocking frown

Earlier last week, I bought Fruits Basket 23 and I LOVE it. smile Now I can only hope Phantom Dream or Tsubasa will end as well as Furuba ended when those series' final volumes come out.

I've been waiting on a Viz sale for a while, so I finally get to finish off some series and start some news ones I've been waiting on. Different from my last purchase from a Viz sale because this time relatively few are pre-orders.

Beast Master 1-2
Black Bird 1-3
Bleach 28-30
Gentlemen's Alliance Cross 10
Hayate the Combat Butler 11-14
High School Debut 11-13
Kimi ni Todoke 1-3
Love*Com 14-17
Magic Touch 5-6
Otomen 4-5
Rosario Vampire 9-10
Rurouni Kenshin BIG 1-3 (which I believe is vols. 1-9)
Special A 12-15
Tail of the Moon 8-15
Wild Ones 8-9

I finally got around to reading Princess Princess Plus last month, even though I purchased it earlier this year. I have to agree with Danielle Van Gorder's review at Mania. If you aren't into Tsuda's previous work, it probably won't appeal to you, but if you're a fan, it's a nice addition to the The Day Of Revolution/Family Complex/Princess Princess universe. I like the animation style, and I think it's just as well-written as her other books, but I do admit to a heavily pro-Tsuda bias. One important note: it's a single volume work, not the first volume of a new series, as the review implies.

Plus focuses more on the relationship friction and resolution between the two new students, and less on the comedy and costumes, but it's still cute and relatively light. The Day Of Revolution and its tie-ins got me into manga in the first place, so I'm always happy to read more about this world. I just wish I could get my hands on a copy of the quickly-out-of-print Princess Princess Premium artbook. In the back of Plus, Tsuda makes reference to some additional stories that would be included in Premium, but there's not an English version, to my knowledge. Considering that the English translation of Plus was just released in Spring 2009, there's still hope that Premium will be translated.

Hey Hobby Ninja, would you recommend the first Battle Angel Alita? With the sale going on I was thinking of picking up at least 4 volumes of it, either that or Claymore. Also I wanted to know if buying Black Lagoon would be 'pointless' if I've already seen the anime, which was very good in my opinion.

Berserk 2, 3, & 4
Samurai 7 1
20th Century Boys 1

First purchases ever

Since the April pre-orders came up from Viz, I added a few other items to the order:

Magic Touch 7
Rosario Vampire s2 vol. 1
Kimi ni Todoke 4
Gentlemen's Alliance Cross 11
Honey Hunt 3-4
Rurouni Kenshin BIG 4-5

The last couple were to push me over the edge into free shipping territory.

I would highly recommend Battle Angel Alita and Claymore. Alita is a good sci-fi series with some original ideas. Claymore has a real edge of your seat style to it. You wonder what will happen next with the battle scenes. The anime varied greatly toward the end of the series, so the manga will be different. As for Black Lagoon, it is one of those things that I've bought because I loved the series but have not read yet. My manga backlog is about a hundred books right now. Maybe I can do something about that now that my daughter has gone back to school. smile

The anime sticks very close to the manga. The only main difference is the sequence in the events. I say it's worth it though, especially on volumes 6 and up. The new arc that isn't covered in the anime is very impressive.

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of buying Pluto, Monster, and either Battle Angel Alita, or Claymore, so what I asking is, what is better? I see that some of the volumes I want are on order so I wouldn't want to get volume one and volume 2 comes a month later, having trouble finding any Viz things in stock,so I open to anything they have licensed

I would go with Claymore, but I'm a bit biased in that area. Studio sales usually deplete the available stock pretty quickly, but in my experience. Viz titles especially the really popular ones (like Claymore), get restocked pretty quickly (less than 2 weeks).

Vertical followed by Del Rey was tough to keep down on purchasing, but I picked up:

Apollo's Song

Since the Dark Horse sale is ending tonight, I figured it was time to catch up with the missing volumes of Oh! My Goddess:

Oh My Goddess 14, 21-31, 33-35

Between those and my recent Viz manga orders, I won't have any shortage of reading material. Granted, all of the OMG are either pre-orders or 'On Order From Manufacturer', but I'm patient, sort of smile

I picked up several volumes from the last TRSI Viz manga sale. However, I quickly found out that volume nine is out of print, and commands a rather hefty price from other vendors ($40 and up). I'm still looking for an inexpensive copy, or holding out hope that Viz will do a Big edition of Slump.

Although the series is incredible after vol 6 there aren't anymore printed (in English anyway). If Tokyopop or someone else has picked them up and will be printing them down the line i don't know, but it would be nice to see the series continue on.

*The following restrictions apply to all coupons unless otherwise noted: Items already heavily discounted (weekly specials, bargain bin items, closeout items, and specialty imports items) are excluded from coupon discounts. Orders must be completed through our online store at RightStuf.com. Items that are on special or are excluded from additional discounts do not count toward coupon dollar amount requirements. Only one coupon or gift certificate may be applied to each order. Canceling or revising your order may affect its eligibility for the coupon.
