Not that is on the menu.

It is Miyabi Japanese Steak House in Blue Springs, MO 64014. Odd, I just noticed this, I wonder if it is a typo on the menu or if the zip code border is really right there. I know that 64014 is a valid code, but mine is 64015.

That's a teppanyaki chain. The closest one to me appears to be in Knoxville, but it seems to be similar to other Japanese steakhouses that we have in Nashville/Smyna/Murfreesboro.

Let us know what you think about it. I wish I had a Japanese restaurant within walking distance. smile

Does anyone here ever eat Polynesian food? There's a place in Smyrna, TN called Onmi Hut that's been in business since 1960, established by a veteran who was stationed in Hawaii. I've been going there all my life, and my parents even used to go before I was born. The decor is Tiki - South Pacific, with tiki lamps and lots of bamboo, and Hawaiian music in the background. It's dimly lit and very relaxing.

The Tahitian Feast is incredible, because you get to sample most of the menu in one dinner. The egg rolls and egg flower (a.k.a. egg drop) soup are some of the best I've ever tasted. The restaurant rceieved at excellent score at Critiki. I love the category "Tikiness." lol

About the closest I have ever come was down at Disney in Orlando when we went to 'Ohana inside the Polynesian resort. It is pricey; if any of you ever get a chance then do check that place out. You don't have to be staying there to eat; you can just walk in and get a seat. But it is AWESOME all you can eat food.

From the eye candy department, take a look at this gorgeous California sushi bar: Kumo. My dining table at home has the same glossy white finish, but my chairs are black. I love the way they did the sushi bar. The reviews regarding their service don't sound very good, though.

Wow, that place looks awesome. I would feel like I was on a set from Star Trek. Too bad the reviews weren't nice.

There's no way it can't be better than the last Japanese steak house I ate at in Blue Springs. Good luck and please post a review if you have a chance.

I went to a place called Sushi House this weekend. It's a small chain with stores in Illinois and Kansas (one store in Kansas to be exact). They opened a second location nearly within walking distance of my house and I've been wanting to take some friends there for ages. We finally got together this weekend and trekked over there for lunch only to discover that it was closed. It had been open for less than 6 months so clearly I shouldn't have waited so long to go. Luckily their original location was still intact so we went there instead.

They're a bit on the pricey side (even for sushi) but I can say that everything I've had there has been excellent.

Nice website. The prices at the Leawood, KS location don't appear to be higher than most places here in Nashville. I'm impressed that they have tatami rooms. Most Japanese restaurants around here don't offer those.

There are 2 other guys that say they want to try it, but I can never get them to have money and time at the same time. so today I finally just went over there by myself.

First impressions....... wile it has a Japanese-e feel to it, it is most certainly designed for a US market. However the Japanese steak houses I have been to in the past were just straight up buildings with nothing special about them. This one has a little bamboo garden with water fall that you have to walk through on the way to the front desk. There is a bar right as you walk in if you don't want to eat. As the hostess takes you back to get seated the first seating area is the kind that you have to step up to and sit on pillows at a table that is about 1 foot tall. Everything in this room is wood. Past this is the room that has standard tables and chairs. This is also the room that the sushi bar is located. In this room the walls are just straight up painted, but the wood floor remains. And the sushi bar and hood are all wood. There was another room on past this down the hall that I could see but I don't know what it was. I assume just more dining area. The sushi bar and the first area with the elevated seating have chopsticks/stand on the placement along with a plate. However in the area I was seated it was just a plate, napkin and fork.

The lunch menu is pretty limited, but that is to be expected. I ordered the chicken tempura. One, because I knew what to expect because I have had it a couple times before and for me a good judge is to try something that I know. Two, because I don't eat sea food unless under extreme situations.

The meal came with miso soup and rice. The broth in the soup was pretty much the best miso soup broth I have ever had. But they went a little over board on the sea weed for my taste. The tempura was very light, flakey, and slightly sweat. The dipping sauce was pretty much what I was expecting. The chicken itself was tender and moist; I was expecting it to be dry like most fried chicken tends to be that I have had. So that was a delightful surprised. And there were 6 pieces, so it was a very good serving that would easily pass for a dinner size for me.

The staff, actually Asian, were all wearing the typical wait staff/server/cook garb that one would expect from a non-family style Japanese restraint. I am pretty confident that my waitress knew as much English as I do Japanese. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

Over all my impressions are good. I will definitely return, hopefully with reinforcements next time and not just getting punked by 2 friends.

So, do you just not like seafood, or do you have an allergic reaction? What would be an "extreme situation"? Sorry if that's a nosy question, but I've never heard it put quite that way. Personally, I could eat sashimi every day. I still need to try fugu and basashi, but those will require road trips, I'm sure.

I agree, dry chicken is a bad thing. That's the main reason I don't eat turkey.

I actually like tatami rooms, but most Japanese restaurants in Nashville don't have them.

Maybe it was a teppanyaki/hibachi area?
