Go California style. Use something like parchment paper on top of a rolling mat. You could add what ever your heart desires. I think that I would to crush dry roasted peanuts to prevent the "peanut butter" from being too soft or too sweet, as many prepared peanut butters contain sweeteners.

If you were really for that perfect looking swirl, you could pipe chilled peanut butter into a round, and use a chocolate ganache, to give flexibility.

I don't know why they would, but I suppose it depends on the people around you. I have several bento boxes of different shapes and sizes, and I use them with non-Japanese foods, too. It's not an everyday thing, but I do like the idea of having my food compartmentalized. I don't like it when different foods on one plate touch each other. That's one of those childhood things I never grew out of.

OMG that is so me! I hate my food touching.

Well, I work at a utility company. I love my job, absolutely love it ... BUT I am not exactly surrounded by the most interesting coworkers. When I went to CT-con last year people were asking to be friendly but it was obvious that people think I'm a bit too nerdy.

Oh well, they are all old and I'm the only "kid" at 26 years.

I am getting sick of buying paper sacks is all. Any suggestions for some nice compartment-ized bentos and where to get them?

A lady at work got one of these as a gift some time back and she absolutely loves it.

A friend and fellow sushi lover sent me this link to a spoof of Japanese Sushi Bar Etiquette (run time = 8:08, safe for work/home/parents/kids).

My two favorite points:

Click to reveal..
(3:12) "In the case of couples, the lady must pour for the man, and then pour for herself. This is the Samurai way."

(5:00) "This man is a technician of sushi. Customers must call him 'Taisho.' Taisho always have a secret personal history. You should never ask about this."

The facial expressions are priceless!

So yesterday on a whim I picked up some sushi (Japanese Style) rice. After Christmas I plan to do some fun stuff with that.

It's worth the effort to find a good restaurant and explore Japanese cuisine. Even if you don't like sashimi or sushi, there's a lot more from which to choose. Sushi is my favorite of all Japanese dishes, and maki is my favorite sushi. Some friends and I had teppanyaki (a.k.a. hibachi) this past Saturday at a Japanese steak house (I had steak and shrimp, with a sashimi roll and a bowl of mushroom/onion soup on the side... and a couple of Sapporos, of course). Even though teppanyaki isn't considered traditional Japanese food, I still enjoy watching the chefs perform.

Generally, I don't care for Mexican food, but sometimes I do like fajitas, if I can add the ingredients myself. In no particular order (O.K., alphabetical), my favorite foods are American, Chinese, Italian, and Japanese. I learned how to cook with Italian food, and started branching out from there. I enjoy cooking for family and friends, but I don't like going through the trouble (of messing up my kitchen) for just myself, so I eat out quite a bit. I eat Japanese at least once a week, sometimes more. It's probably the healthiest food that I eat.
