My wife normally gets me a $50 RightStuf gift card. And my Mom is hit or miss about doing the same. ( sometimes she does, sometimes she doesn’t )

When does the massive sale usually start? Usually at the beginning of december. Sadly I'm in the same boat as Manhiem. All the pre-orders I've made kinda make it hard for me to make any purchases for this years sale. (but I will try to though) I love you Right Stuf! I'm sorry! (but like I said... I'll still try! )

Oh wow i didnt know there was going to be a sale. Does this usually include a percentage off your order, or sales on only certain items? I do have much i want to order in the next few weeks but it may be worth waiting

When does the massive sale usually start? The first part (Black Friday/Cyber Monday) of the sale should launch either this Thursday, next Monday or next Wednesday at the latest. This sale gives you a list of about 15-20 deals. All titles from this sale are usually at 60% off the retail price. That's 20% off more than a typical studio sale. Once that sale ends, the 12+ Days Sale will commence (usually at the end of November). Each day for the next 12 days, Right Stuf will list a bunch of deals (about 5 sets/bundles). On the 13th day, a "Bundle of Joy" is released (another huge list of items). All items from this sale are also at 60% off the retail price if not higher. Last year, I bought 6 DVD sets between the two sales. I'll list the retail price and the price I payed for. Angel Beats - MSRP $59.99; Sale Price $23.99 Night Raid 1941- MSRP $59.99; Sale Price $23.99 Cannan - MSRP $59.99; Sale Price $23.99 Darker Than Black: Season 1 - MSRP $49.99; Sale Price $19.99 Birdy The Mighty part 1: MSRP $59.99; Sale Price $15.99 Birdy The Mighty part 2: MSRP $59.99; Sale Price $15.99 This year I'm planning to take full advantage of the sale and buy much more.

Thats cool Ill have to keep an eye on everything as the sale begins I edited my post a few times after you made this post. Please re-read it, because I have given more details on the sale. Also, Shawne and the WS Minion have been taunting about the sale on the Weekly Specials post. It looks like this year's sale is going to be a dozy.

I'm excited for the sales. It is kind of crazy that they are already so close to coming. I have a few preorders hitting me in December, but it shouldn't be too bad.

Last year I got this stuff at about $50. Some of it was part of the sale, while others were in the bargain bin.
1 of Madlax DVD Complete Collection (Hyb) (Thinpak) 1 of NaNa 7 of 7 DVD 1 (Hyb): The Luckiest Number 1 of NaNa 7 of 7 DVD 2 (Hyb): A Test of Love 1 of NaNa 7 of 7 DVD 3 (Hyb): Greatest American Heroes 1 of NaNa 7 of 7 DVD 4 (Hyb): Heartbreak by the Numbers 1 of NaNa 7 of 7 DVD 5 (Hyb): Eight is Enough 1 of NaNa 7 of 7 DVD 6 (Hyb): Final Countdown 1 of Nanaka 6/17 DVD Complete Collection (Hyb) 1 of Shadow Skill TV DVD Complete Collection (Hyb) 1 of Sister Princess DVD Box Set (Thinpak)
I also hit up another sites sale, (hint it's initials are DD) for about $25. However due to really crappy customer service from that site, I will most likely just order here (as well as maybe the "A" site, due to getting at least one gift card from them every year).
Not really sure what I am looking for, but if something jumps out with a good price then I will grab it.

They started it up a little earlier this year and there are "3 waves", that means we will be seeing two more of these lists before the sale ends. It looks like the minimum this year is going to be 50% off (Funimation being stingy this year). Now I see why the Specials Minion said "Holy Cheese" in the Weekly Specials post about this subject.

Will the "waves" continue into eachother, or will wave one(T3) end when wave two(T2) starts; and wave two(T2) end when wave three(T1) starts?

They should continue into each other, but before warned that some items have counters and may not last until the end of the sale. The next list will be up most likely on Thursday, while the last list will be up most likely next Monday or Wednesday.

These holiday sales are mostly on sets, bundles and single releases (movies/OVAs) on DVDs and Blu-ray. There have been a few manga bundles in the past, but I have yet to see other merchandise included in these sales.

Let's see what I would recommend from the current sale items:
Madlax: a step up from Noir, since the characters are not cold blooded killers. Though the supernatural elements & plot are a bit odd.
My Santa: if you enjoy Ken Akumatsu (Love Hina, Negima) this is a fun & short show. As usual there are cute girls in revealing outfits.
Daphne: A show chock full of action & fanservice, and is a steal at that price.
Allison & Lillia: a fun show with a good plot, decent action, and fun characters. With the deal you get both parts for less than the cost of one. Though it is sub-only, and it still has a kinda unfinished ending.
Welcome to the NHK: a dark comedy that is very fun. The anime is better than the manga, and at that price you can't go wrong.
Summer Wars: this movie is a lot of fun & full of action. Sure it's a lot like Digimon, but who cares.
Other stuff worth looking at:
Ushio & Tora: for an older show it's pretty fun & has good action & comedy.
Colorful: yes the show is about guys trying to look at girls panties, but they way they handle it is pretty fun.

Right Stuf has trouble getting new stock from them as it is. Nothing good would come out of having a sale on stuff they can't keep in stock.

BTW the next wave is up now...
Boy there are a BUNCH of stuff on these!
If you have not got it already that Moribito box set is very nice. This set in particular is NOT a stackpack, and has 8 individual DVD cases. The kinda neat thing about these cases is that they are about half the width of a standard case, yet are made of rather sturdy clear plastic.
Also these:
Kurau Phantom Memory: very good show, with one of the very rare occurrences for Monica Rial (in the dub) having a "grown-up" voice. Plus it's pretty action packed & has a good story.
Aria: from what I have seen (season one) this show is very relaxing, very cute, and very touching. It has a mix of funny & sad stuff, and I was laughing one second & bawling the next (yes it made me cry). For the price I say go for it. Even if you just get one season.
Bamboo Blade: this show does have a bit of actual Kendo in it, however it's more of a fun slice-of-life show. Very fun characters (who are cute in their own way), a great dub, and a fun story. The only minus is that even with 26 episodes it still has no real conclusion, and kinda leaves you hanging.
Any opinions on these?
Micheal That Mecha box (MD Geist & others) Maps (from the earlier wave)
Or anything else I might be into (you know I am into pretty much anything, as long as it's dubbed). Though I am tempted on both Allison & Lillia and Aria.

There are not many titles that I'm interested in on the second wave. Many of them I already have.
I didn't care much for Moribito when I saw it on TV (too slow in pacing) and if I ever do buy it, it will most likely be the compact collection (stackpak) Blu-ray version. I don't like jewel cases (they crack to easily) and I don't have a lot of room for any more bulky box sets.

Maps is pretty good "old school" anime. And for what they want for it you can't go wrong. Same for the Mecha set. Plus, sice there all the individual vols you can just trade off the ones you don't want. And dude... It's MD Geist! I liked it for what it was, supa cheesy cheese! EDIT: Also, like joel, a lot this stuff I already have/ not totally intrested in. Although... Morebito tempts me so....
Edited by J.E.S. (11/15/12 03:28 PM) Edit Reason: thoughts on the sale

I looked at today's "wave"-probally hold off until I see the last one and if I see anything interesting I'll get it in one fell swoop.

There are not many titles that I'm interested in on the second wave. Many of them I already have.
I didn't care much for Moribito when I saw it on TV (too slow in pacing) and if I ever do buy it, it will most likely be the compact collection (stackpak) Blu-ray release. I don't like jewel cases (they crack to easily) and I don't have a lot of room for any more bulky box sets. I liked it a lot ( and it's time to re-watch it again ) I think the.. Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit DVD Bundle .. Is a Steal Scratch that! I forgot there is a Blu-ray version.

But at least I have the means to Transfer the Cover Art & disc’s over to a Tray Case. That’s what I did with my Copy of Moribito.

I think crappacks are cheap junk-I mean really, a decent case only adds a few cents to the overall cost. I'll take a litebox over a stacker anyday. But what really gets my goat are the cutaway cases crapamation and now Sentai seem to love using. I mean what's the purpose of a case-maybe to protect the disc inside? With the stupid cutaway cases all that stands between the disc and damage is the case insert and a thin layer of clear plastic-especially on the read side-jeez!!

I believe one purpose is to reduce the amount of toxic plastic in landfills. There are better ways to achieve this though. All of the cases for the television series Eureka for example are 100% recyclable, and made from 45% post consumer/55% post industrial paper fiber, and the plastic is made from two post consumer water bottles; and... drum roll please... they keep the discs snug and safe. I think that the choice of the aforementioned cutaway case should be left to the consumer. They do leave the discs at a disadvantage in regard to safety when compared to normal cases.

I'm afraid of the coming holidays... :S I've allowed myself an approximate "budget" for any sort of entertainment/anime, but I've already eaten up the rest of this years'. Still in the process of saving up money to go to Japan, so every time I resist buying anime, the better XD
Doesn't help that they upped the minimum amount for free shipping to Canada either. As long as I can convince others to help fill the order so it isn't all me, that'll be my saving grace.

There's great things about Canada too: Cheaper medicine, the band Blackie And The Rodeo Kings, and the movie Weirdsville; for example.

BTW Wave 1 is now up.
Good stuff I noticed:
K-ON! Season 2 Wandaba Style Nanaka 6/17 Bleach/Inuyasha movies Trigun Badlands Rumble
Also just in case: they apparently cancelled the figures with Daphne in the Brilliant Blue.
One thing to note is that this is a pre-holiday sale, and it ends at midnight on Cyber Monday. Then the REAL sale will start, and if this stuff is any indication it should be a doozy.
So far I can't really decide if I will order anything or not.

I only made a small order from the sale ($50 worth).
The discounts for the Funimation titles are pretty disappointing this year. Last year, they were at 60% off, this year it's at only 50% off.
Not to mention, I have a list of 10 titles that are on my priority list and not a single one appeared on this sale.
I hope the Christmas sale nets us better results.

The 12+ Day sale starts tomorrow. They posted the first clue on their twitter account. Day 1 Clue: "On the first day of savings, Santa Kleckner gave to me… A guild of wizards under the tree."

On the 12+ Day sale, could you wait until the 12th day and get stuff from an earlier day or do you need to get it on the day it's released? Yes, you can wait until the last day. In fact, I always wait until the 13th day, since there is usually a "bundle of joy" (a little something extra) revealed on that day. Also, if an item sells out, could you still order it during the sale and when it's back in stock they would send it out? Depends if there is a counter or not. If not, then yes you can order it even if it's out of stock and they will ship it out when it comes back in stock. If it has a counter, then you better pick it up before it sells out. A counter means that the title has been discontinued by the manufacturer and what's left in stock is all there is left.

If you don't have it already, there is NO excuse to not buy A Little Snow Fairy Sugar!
Other than that, Cyber Team in Akihabara is pretty fun.

How's Venus Versus Virus? Not bad! Has quite a bit of action, but the plot is pretty forgettable. It's worth it for that price though.

Most of the SAVE things are good as well.
Both El Hazard series are pretty good, but IMO the Wanderers is slightly better.
Of course there's these:
Rumbling Hearts Solty Rei El Cazador de la Bruja Heat Guy J Kannon Comic Party Revolution
That Dojin Works combo is pretty tempting.
Though I am gonna wait until near the end to see.

Every other Tuesday if you live in the US, they will send out the stuff that is in stock if you order something not released yet or they are waiting for more stock to come in.

It should be noted that this only applies to orders using the Economy Shipping option (Media Mail). If you choose USPS Priority Mail, UPS Ground or UPS 2nd Day Air you only get an initial partial shipment (all in stock items get shipped) and that's it for partial shipments.

Yeah... I kinda get the feeling that once a dubbed version of a title is released, that was previously released subbed; retailers have a heck of a time moving the subbed edition. As a matter of fact, I think the subbed editions of Princess Resurrection have been collecting dust at a nearby Barnes & Noble for 'bout a year now. I've been toying around with the idea of pickin' up the dubbed Princess Resurrection too, but like you; I'm kinda waitin' for a sale.

I hate it when a title goes on sale, but it's not on the version that I want. I'm looking at you Princess Resurrection. I want the bilingual version, not the blasted sub only version (parts/set). Not only do I already have the sub-only version, I ordered a 2nd copy of it so the club at school could give the series (my copy) away as a prize in our costume contest. If I knew some of the other items on the group order would *still* not be ready to ship almost 4 weeks later, I never would've asked them to send out partial shipments. Then I could argue my way into saving all the sales prices. (total order size was just over $1300, so there's a ton of items we could've saved on now XD)

Redline is seriously AWESOME! So at that price be sure you get it!
BTW any word on D Grey Man lately? As in if Funi is gonna pony up & get the rest of it to dub? I have seen the first 2 seasons, and enjoyed them (more interesting than most other "Shonnen" shows). Heard that the company who made it wants a bunch more $ for the rest of it.
Anyhow, come on let's get some slightly better options for stuff... Not really into all those odd manga bundles.

Though it would be nice if they give manga bundles from publishers other then Dark Horse which doesn't put out anything good. Besides The Legend Of Zelda: Hyrule Historia. Which features the infamous timeline.

Next wave is up.
Negima?! is fun, though lime the other one does not follow the manga too closely. I think they may have "aged up" the girls somewhat to make them in High School (instead of Middle School). Though that still does not really matter since they all still "love" a 10 year old boy in some way. The fun part of this was the "dud" cards that he got for the power-ups sometimes, cause the girls turn into uber-cute little creatures when that happens.
Other than that, obviously Full Metal Alchemist.
Sekirei was fun if you enjoy battle harem shows.
Kinda surprised that season 2 of Heavens Lost Property was not in the mix, since season 1 was yesterday. Sekirei season 2 should also be in the mix IMO.
As for the earlier comment about the variety of the sales, I am not complaining, cause there are a lot of good deals. I simply am surprised there is that much focus on the manga this year (last year was almost all DVD/Blu-Ray IIRC).

Other than that, obviously Full Metal Alchemist.
I might get season 2 to fix my current quirky collection: FMA season 1 FMA single DVD vol 7 FMA season 2 part 1 FMA season 2 part 2 (in their "infinite wisdom" Funimation decided to split the seasons differently between the half-season sets and the full season sets: S1 full season ends at 25, S2 half season part 1 starts at 29... -_-; ) I'm a bit on the fence about Genshiken manga omnibus 2, since Rightstuf's international shipping $3.50/item negates quite a bit of the saving, while the places I normally buy my manga have flat shipping or free shipping... I think my anime collection is a bit too big: about 30% of the DVD offers in the sale I already have and with being a bit picky because of running out of storage space, I wonder if I will piece together a 5-6 item order from the sales without having to throw in some pre-orders...

Thank god there's a few Sentai titles too. God-I'm scared to think how much money I've dropped on anime these past few weeks.

Again a new day, and a new wave of stuff.
Looks like a bunch of action/fighting shows.

Well, I ended up getting a few things: Book of Bantorra Collection 2 (now I can finally watch this series!) K-On! Season 1 K-On!! Season 2 Parts 1-2 Blu-ray Bundle Moribito Holiday Bundle with Artbox Now, I kind of hope they don't list anything else I want. Though, knowing the Dark Lord, I'm sure he will.

Yet another day, yet another wave...
This time some good stuff (if you don't own it):
Ouran High School Host Club Pani Poni Dash Full Metal Panic (all of it) Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood Strike Witches Season 1
Just a observation, but there seems to be a lot of live action stuff this year as well.
I wish they had dubbed Detroit Metal City, the live-action movie was IIRC but not the anime? What did Gene Simmons want too much $?

And now we get Liveaction that isn't YA titles.
Only thing that really peaks my interest today is the Amagami SS bundle. Is that show any good?

So we also get these:
Gun X Sword (I always try to recommend this one) FLCL (even by Gainax standards this one was very weird) Ragnarok The Animation (if you like MMORPGs you should like this) Popotan (though it's still cheaper at where I work...) This Ugly Yet Beautiful World (it had a very annoying ending though) Ah! My Goddess Season 2 (did the manga end yet?)

They did a very smart thing and gave each of the girls thier own set of episodes. Even better, Sentai put each arc on separate dics, so if you didn't care for one of the girls, you can just skip over her disc. So overall... YES!

The bundle would be worth it if you like your romance series, especially with the low price.

Next wave is now up!
Let's see what I would suggest:
Birdy The Mighty Decode Gunslinger Girl (preferably the Classic Line version if you want the whole thing) Death Note Manga Princess Tutu (though IIRC it was cheaper last year, and this is a stackpack) Cosplay Complex/My Dear Marie set is fun Ghost Hunt was decent (even though it kinda lacked an ending IIRC)

Forgot to mention an often overlooked show that's on sale:
Oh! Edo Rocket!
It's a fun show full of fun characters & has a good story/plot. As always it has a good dub, though if you don't like "that voice" from Greg Ayers it can be annoying.

MAD BULL 34 Complete Series now available for per-order
<snip>
But I want the Real Deal so I’m going to have to put this one on per-order I hope they didnt edit it, because it is much defiantly 17+ ( as soon as I can add some more stuff to it for free Shipping )
The RightStuf Item Description Page doesn’t show the age rating yet. Discotek doesn't rate their titles. They don't edit them either.

Yet another wave is now up!
I suggest these:
Love Hina (though it's missing the movies & Love Hina Again) Baccano! (you might have to watch it a couple of times to figure it out) Mushi-Shi (a very "relaxing" feel & great stories) Samurai Deeper Kyo (though it's way different than the manga apparently)
I'm sure Kiku would suggest Kohime Muso (Ultimate Edition), but I have not seen it. (Sorry still have a no dub, no sale mentality).

Stick to your guns EricDent. Show the industry what you want. I myself however, couldn't possibly withstand the charms of a gaggle of busty heroines and snaggletoothed lolis.

Discotek doesn't rate their titles. They don't edit them either. OIC, Thanks .. .. Just to expand on this. Unlike the other anime companies, Discotek has no desire of getting any of their titles on TV (they only have the video rights for each title), so they don't see the point of supplying a suggested rating.

...What do you guys think about buying Hellsing Ultimate? I want to get it but I don't want to buy it and then have Funimation never release the last 2 episodes. I know, right? But here's the problem. If we were all to hold off purchasing it because we wanted to make sure Funimation released the whole series BEFORE we bought it, then Funimation would probably conclude that the title was a poor seller, and abandon the last two movies as being unprofitable. The only way we, as fans, can influence Funimation to bring over the last two movies is to show them that it is at least reasonably profitable for them to do so. So, I say that if you want to buy the series, then get what's available now, and send Funi the message, "Yes, we'd like to have the rest, please."

I guess that as a "night owl" I jump on the site when they update the sale... Today's batch includes these:
Allison & Lilila Complete Collection: though it's sub-only it has a good story, fun characters, and some pretty exciting adventure & action stuff. The only small issue is that it seems kinda open ended. Like there is a 3rd part that is missing.
The Third: The Girl With the Blue Eye: for that price it's insane not to get it. It's a very good show, and I am definately grabbing that ASAP.
Mongolian Chop Squad (formally known as BECK): yes they finally changed the name (maybe Beck got tired of the anime fans asking him to sing songs from this). Anyhow it's a very good show with an amazing dub (Greg Ayers can sing really well), though he does use "that voice" a lot in this show. It's also kinda full of curse words. If you enjoyed the "alternative music" wave of the '90s you should love this.
Moon Phase: it's cute, it's creepy, it's funny, it's sad, and has the always fun Monica Rial as a loli vampire girl who wears cat-ears. It's a great choice for Halloween, or anytime that you want something spooky.
UFO Ultramaiden Valkyrie (though it's missing the 1st season?): loads of nudity (set in a bathhouse) with bouncing boobs & butts galore. That does not take away from a very good love story, that had everything in it. We had action, adventure, a mess of cat-girls, an Ultraman alien, and a rather fun Karaoke contest.

Thanks, but I think I might get Tweeny Witches instead...
Today's the last day (AKA Day 13)!
So we have these that I suggest:
Ai Yori Aoshi Basilisk Fight! Iczer One Girls Bravo Jyu-Oh-Sei Noir (BTW all 3 parts of the "Girls with guns" trilogy are part of the sale) Save Me! Lollipop
Plus (even though I have never seen it, but hear it's great) Tweeny Witches.
So this is most likely what I am grabbing:
Daphne in the Brilliant Blue Bundle (darn no more figures, but whatever) El Hazard: The Wanderers The Third: The Girl With The Blue Eye Tweeny Witches Bundle Redline
All for a bit under $100.

I can't recommend Maho Shoujo Tai (Tweeny Witches) highly enough-in a word-FANTASTIC!! YUP, me too !!! It was one that defiantly took me by surprise. I had no idea I’d like it as much as I do.
I can’t help it, I find myself watching the closing Animation almost every episode.

I'm so upset! Psychic Squaud is up for just 51 bucks! Argh! I can't get it due to lack of spare funds! I isa sad panda. I used to have that problem-but then I figured that some of what I "just had to have" wasn't so important after all and a cheaper alternative was just as good.

As stated for the Hellsing Ultimate collection. Volume 4 is in the weekly specials. Weekly specials are never put into the other big anime sales RightStuf does.

After going through all the days, I ended up with 33 items in my cart. I don't think I can afford all that. Starting off one smaller order with DVD collections for: Detroit Metal City Mayo Chiki! Tweeny Witches

I know it isn't anime but I saw The Lord Of The Rings bluray extended version boxset that normally retails for 100 bucks for 50 bucks and got it-it'll be interesting to see how the added scenes affect the story and boy is the case pretty-anime packaging should be like this!!

You’ve got a really good list there... I’ve seen all but the FMA ova, and the only ones still not on my shelves are Noein & Full Metal Panic But I do plan on re-purchasing Full Metal Panic

Would appreciate if you guys let me know what you think. Ghost in The Shell SAC season 1 was great. Between the two, IMHO the first season is superior. Mushi-shi was fantastic. Much slower pace than you usually see but it absolutely works here. Full Metal Panic season one was okay. Loved season two; one of the funniest things I've ever seen.. Can't speak on season three except that the clips I've seen look badass. Chrono Crusade was okay. I prefer the direction the manga took but what can you do?

See quote! My opinions are in green. I bought quite a bit on my first RightStuf sale, Of the following titles, i've only seen Full Metal Panic, so i went on a whim with what sounded good. Would appreciate if you guys let me know what you think.
Noein - Seen it on Syfy. The plot was interesting, but I found the characters to be annoying. Blue Gender - An oldie but a goody. The concept is very similar to Starship Troopers. Ghost in The Shell season 1 - You can't go wrong with this title. GITS is a classic and the series is even better. Mushi-shi - A very unique series, that is a bit slow in pacing but it has a very interesting premise. Moribito <snip> - It's a very good looking fantasy series with an interesting plot. Make sure you marathon it or watch it in chunks. The pacing is too slow otherwise. Full Metal Panic seasons 1, 2 & 3 - Another good action mecha title with a bit of comedy on the side. Chrono Crusade - I loved this title, but before warned of its bitter sweet ending. The staff really did their homework on the historic settings. Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 - A classic cyber punk series that I really enjoyed. Madlax - Part of the Girls with Guns trilogy with Noir and El Cazador rounding out the three. If you enjoy this one, then check out the other two. I personally enjoyed Madlax the most out of the three, but opinions vary on this. E's Otherwise - Just ordered this title myself from the sale, so no comment. FMA BrotherHood OVA collection - Haven't seen it, but you need to see the series to understand it. The OVA collection is just a collection of shorts, that fill in some of the gaps from the TV series.
