Yes and yes!

If they keep on delaying "Is This A Zombie?", it'll probably be converted back to a combo pack (original plans), since the one year lead time for Blu-ray will be up.

Fine by me, I'll still get the DVD with that method; but the wait is killing me. eek I'll be happy as long as it doesn't go the route of Great Guardians.

I contacted RightStuf about the the Koihime Muso Ultimate Collection. Apparently it was a typo on their part and it is in fact not dubbed, like the original releases. They are going to edit the spoken languages portion of the item description accordingly. Shucks, I was pretty excited to hear a dub for (Shin) Koihime Muso (Otome Tairan).

I know right? I was all excited, just to be let down. I think I could get a better handle on the series if it were dubbe, considering there's about fifty bajillion characters and they each have two names.

In addition to the cover art for Shana season 1, they put up the cover art for season 2 part 1 and season 2 part 2.

I wholeheartedly agree, and thought that they did; but alas... this was not the case. If it was, I would be tempted to buy the series again. I think the sales for the new collection would have skyrocketed had they done a dub, not to mention the Koihime Muso series is awesome and deserves a dub.

Yeah Bandai was usually pretty decent at keeping the discs in good cases.
Especially in the Anime Legends sets.

I have these and all are in lite boxes (I think that's what they call those cases with the wings):

Love Hina
My Hime
My Otome
Scrapped Princess
Haruhi Suzumiya Season 2 (yeah not anime legends but still a good case)
Outlaw Star
sCRYed
Cowboy Bebop
K-On! Season 1 (this went the extra mile with a wing for each pair of discs, plus it's a standard DVD size case)

I measured the width of the case. It's approximately 3/4" (2cm) wide.

Hopefully just a minor (3 weeks) setback. I'm encouraged, considering they already put the cover art out at RightStuf.

Okay, Iíll stick with my self made collection ( in a 14mm case ) that I already have.
A standard sized Case ( 14mm Iíve always seen it listed as) is in the American measurement standard Ĺ inch-ish.

I never replace cases just to save space (which is probally why my collection takes up so much space)-just when a case is broken or damaged.

I usually get mine from US Plastics-they sell single cases and don't make you buy a lot of 10 or more, their prices are pretty reasonable but the s & h can be a little steep.

I've been to the US Plastics site a couple of times, although I'm hesitant to shop there. As for the Checkout Store, it's too bad they don't list the case widths.

At Checkout Store, 1 disc up to 6 disc's, they are the 14mm ( 1/2 inch-ish ) wide one's, the same size as a single disc case.
After that they do get wider, but they are the new ( kinder, gentler ) wider sizes.
As oppose to the ones in the past...
Checkout Storeís 8 disc Case will be the same size OR smaller than the 8 disc Cases sold by others.( usually smaller )
Also other places that sell Multiple Disc Cases sell the older Style ( aka: wider )
Like the 6 disc case will be the size of an 8 disc case ( and the older wider 8 disc cases at that ), like what all the Anime Legends stuff came in, etc....
( at least a lot of the Anime Legends stuff I have seems to have came in cases the size of an older 8 disc case )

Believe me Iíve bought from them all in my effort to Consolidate my Collection.
Checkout Store is the way to go !!!

Thanks again B Dub. I checked out their site again. It does list approximate widths. I'm gonna investigate their site further. Looks pretty affordable, and the customer reviews seem to be pretty good. It might be just what I need. BTW the clear and white cases are just a tad more expensive than the black cases, but may be of higher quality. Is this true?

Hmm.....*I'm grabbing and checking out a black case and a clear case*
The clear oneís seem to be more pliable ( less rigid, more flexible )

White is also an option, does anybody know of any reason why (or why not) one of the three usual choices (black, clear, white) is better (more durable) than the others?

Has anybody noticed, When They Cry III is up for preorder... with no sign of a rerelease of the original, or Kai for that matter. I don't think I'm gonna go for it.

Yeah, I noticed.
Like I said in an earlier post, I'm kinda upset that it's blu-ray only.
But the big thing is that we're still missing the second part of When they cry, as well as the two OVA series... I can do without the OVA's but I REALLY REALLY want Kai.
I want to see how the story ends dangnabbit! mad
I won't lie... I probably will get it, I just need to see how my budget will play out the next few months and plan accordingly.

Yeah, I've stretched myself pretty thin as of late as well. (That's why I'm sittin' on the fence with Steins;Gate too.) Had they rereleased the original When They Cry, I probably would've went for Umineko; defininately if Kai was in the mix too.

Yep! It was announced at the Otakon that NIS America (sub only) has acquired the series and if it does well, then they will consider going after the rest.

ive had good luck with clear cases, i use them all the time if i ever have to replace a case. i dont really notice a difference between the white and black cases in quality. i'm not really sure what the reasoning is for why the clear ones i have outlast the black cases though. *shrug*

I've Heard good things about Steins;Gate as well.
But nothing but a LOT of mixed reviews on Umineko.
The vibe I'm getting from them, is that Umineko is best enjoyed ironicly, kinda like how people say Showgirls is so bad it's good.
I like trainwreck anime so I'm game for that. smirk

I wonder if they're having some kind of technical difficulty with it. Or maybe they're putting it on the back burner because pre-orders for the first season combo pack have been slow. I can't imagine that pre-orders for season 2 have been slow. A lot of us have been waiting for this for a long time.

I've been on the fence about this series.
Is it any good?

Yeah, it's a good series. It takes a little bit to get into because of all the concepts that they have to explain, but it has likable characters and a good number of action sequences. And while the parents are usually just background characters in these shows, Yuji's mother really gets a chance to shine in episode 11(?)

It's an enjoyable show-though not a classic by any means. I liked it when I watched it a while ago.

Junichi Sato did the series composition for both series. I wouldn't be surprised if he also did location research for both series. I know he did extensive location scouting for Aria.

Yup, Junichi Sato also directed both of them-he's had his fingers in a lot of my favorite series over the years.

kiku's not pleased. $150.00; Blu-ray only, no thanks. Try 'bout a hundred less and a combo pack and I'm in.

Wow. Blu-ray only. Sub-only. 15 episodes on six disks, plus a booklet, and the MSRP is 2-3 times what you'd pay for a comparable series from another company. crazy

But at least they've solved their reverse-importation problem. Just don't allow export back to Japan. laugh

Edit: There is some (moderately) good news, though. The series will be available for streaming from Crunchyroll:

I'm dropping that amount on a controller soon. It isn't that bad.

Edit: Plus it is way cheaper then importing it. In Japan it is going for 29,400 Yen. So you would be lucky to get it for $400 US.

So long as it's sub only, I can think of no reason to invest any money so long at is legally readily available streaming. Especially considering the asking price.

If it was a DVD/Blu-ray combo pack, the DVD would probably be sub & dub; thereby justifying the exorbitant price... somewhat.

No, if they were going to dub something, it would more likely be the blu-ray. Then they could kill their reverse importation fears by making the blu-ray dub-only, and leave the DVD version to be sub and dub. Leaving the blu-ray sub-only is pretty much proof positive that they have no plans to dub it.

On that note, I 100% encourage everyone to pick up the upcoming Durarara LE BD. Especually if you didn't pick up the now OOP DVD release.
Series might be expensive, but it is also amazing. Totally worth it.

We're talkin' 'bout Forte here right? Considering I've already got it on DVD; I don't think I can justify the expenditure, especially considering how much filthy lucre I've spent at RightStuf as of late.

I already have the Season 2 DVD LE, so it's a pretty much a pass for me too. I like how my Season 1 & 2 LE's look next to each other. I appreciate that they're finally putting it out there though.

Although... if it (the Blu-ray edition) came in a DVD sized case, it would fit into the Forte DVD LE box where the postcard box currently resides.

I've thought about that, but I'm not too worried about it. I have way too much other things pre-ordered for December anyway. wink If the movie has a DVD sized case, I'll probably put it in there.

I have noticed, of late, that a lot of Funimation's marketing/artwork misses the mark. In fact, their artwork often implies things that are not true of the story at all.

For instance, in the advertising artwork for Ai Yori Aoshi, they made Aoi look like a tramp or a hooker, and in the text they implied that Kaoru was hooking up with all the girls. Not true at all.

In the case of Haibane Renmei, they started off their product description with some nonsense about God sometimes not being able to forgive. It's been four years since I've seen it, but I can't remember any point in the story where they stated or implied that the Haibane were unforgiven by God.

Now, we have the cover art for Serial Experiments Lain, and they've made it look like she's a psychotic serial killer. Lain is creepy, but it's nothing like that.

Seriously, somebody needs to call their marketing department on their mistaken and/or deceptive practices. frown

Oh, wonderful. They pushed the release date for Index back to Dec. 11. When did that happen? :P

If Funi keeps pushing back release dates, I'm gonna start worrying about what's going on with them.

Nah, I wouldn't worry about 'em like that.
Most likely is that they want to make that a combo pack.

I remember that the Creator of Serial Experiments Lain was unhappy ( disappointed )
That we, the Western ( non- Asian ) audience Got it & Dug it.
Because he didnít want us to understand it.

Iím referring to the subtext, theme / message, of the Series, stuff like that.

All you have to do to find out what Iím referring to is to
Google Serial Experiments Lain, than read the Wiki that pops up about it.

That's how I found out.

Just in case there is a bit of the God thing Manheim mentioned in Haibane Renmei. It's the whole thing with the "sinbound" Haibane (in particular Rekki).

My wife was sitting next to me when I started watching Haibane Renmei
She actually got into it and watched the whole first episode with me.

Crapamation has a nasty habit of hyping their rescues in a totally different manner than they were in the originial release-when I went to their industry panel at the convention this weekend they were hyping Aria The Scarlet Ammo as a boobfest which it really isn't. Granted-I watched the show fansubbed and hated it-but it wasn't a sex laden booby series.

Seriously, somebody needs to call their marketing department on their mistaken and/or deceptive practices. frown
I would imagine that marketing is a wending and tenuous path to walk. On one side; the distributor, who's mission is to get the anime to the fans, has their financial backers telling them to "sell it" at all costs. On the other; the've got the fans, who are are a fickle lot indeed. Sure; they've all got money, but they don't all have the same interests. I'm guessing that to make enough money to appease the financial backers, distributors are forced to target more than one demographic in a ploy to garner enough sales.

Case in point:

In each of the aforementioned anime: Ai Yori Aoshi, Haibane Renmei, and Serial Experiments Lain; the main targeted demographic is hardcore fans of the series who are overjoyed to see it's rerelease. These sales are a good bet, but are they enough to appease the mighty financial backers? Who can say? Here's a couple examples of a second demographic that distributors may be targeting:

Ai Yori Aoshi: The notably saucy cover is uncharacteristic of the wealth of pure wonderful romance to be found in Ai Yori Aoshi. Given. On the other hand, the naughty fanservice on the cover helped push kiku "off the fence" and was a contributing factor to my purchase of the item. Without it, I may have never experienced the love that Kaoru-sama and Aoi-chan shared. It was a blessing in disguise. Plus... Aoi is hot.

Haibane Renmei: I myself preordered this title the moment it went up in the "new/changed items" list at RightStuf; because I'm aware of the hardcore fanbase that Haibane Renmei has, and felt that it warranted a place in my collection. To attract more sales however, using religion in advertising is a strong gambit. The best part is: a small percentage of the consumers that bought into it for religious controversy just might discover a really great "little gem" of an anime and become even bigger anime fans. Anime FTW!

Serial Experiments Lain: As stated above: " myself preordered this title the moment it went up in the "new/changed items" list at RightStuf; because I'm aware of the hardcore fanbase that Serial Experiments Lain has, and felt that it warranted a place in my collection. Again, the distributor is using controversy as a selling point. Ya gotta admit: They did succeed in making the cover creepy. This tactic has been used since time immemorial in anime and has since been a staple of anime's allure IMO. Granted: it may be misleading as to the material, but any anime fan worth their salt is well versed in being mislead by covers and marketing.

These business tactics, if successful, will aid in reaping the yield that the financial backers require. Hopefully, this will be the impetus that they need to invest in even more anime licenses. That means more anime for kiku, and... I love anime.

When I see the new cover I think, Yup, thatís Lain alright.
If you had to sum her up with one picture, I think thatís the right one.
( Iíve watched the series 4 times )

In additon to the cover art, everybody's input here at Anime Today (especially EricDent's) also helped me "off the fence" with Ai Yori Aoshi.

I second that! grin

Iím telling you, I rely on the input from all the regulars here on the Anime Today Forum.

I make a good deal of my Anime choices based off of the feedback from you guys.
Just reading the posts between other people about an Anime has motivated me to buy or not to buy.
( that happens a lot )

According to WTK on the Fandom forums they are the same. At first that was not the Blu-ray cover and they were different. I'm glad they changed it as the old Blu-ray cover was not that great.

..... Deadman Wonderland .....

WHAT !Ö shocked ( I'm confused ) confused
What are these people smoking ??
You are suppose to lower prices as time goes by, not rise them.
Just last Month ( Aug ) when I cancelled Deadman Wonderland from my On-Order list ( I had my reasons )
My purchase price was $ 38.99

Now today ( Sept. 20th ) itís listed with $ 64.98.
Iím confused as to the working of Big Business I guess.

I canít believe that zrdb, I just cancelled and re-ordered several Anime here at RightStuf.
They were item's that you weren't able to use a Got Anime Card on at first.
But now you can, so I called, Told them why I was cancelling ( they do ask ) and cancelled.
I then reordered and got the 10% discount.

* Maybe it was a new ( inexperienced ) customer service person ?? *

I dunno-they've always been very accommodating before-I mean I've been buying stuff from them for 12 years for pete's sake and the whole time maybe 1 or 2 gaffes on their part and they took care of them in an exemplary manner.

Wasn't she supposed to be the main character in an anime called "Mirai Millenium"? I tried to find some information on that, but it's like the anime was planned but never executed.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Yeah, this is about where he was when I looked at this six months ago. It's all character designs and merchandise, with no real progress on an anime. Oh, well, why go to all the expense and trouble if you don't have to?

He seems to mainly use Mirai to promote his show "Culture Japan" anyway. Which is still going on and the 3rd season should be starting up soon.

He tweeted he was meeting with the anime company that was making Mirai Millenium a few weeks back, to talk about character designs with them. So I guess progress is being made.

Well, I hope he can pull it off, but I have to admit that I'm really skeptical. The last time I read up on this, Choo was talking about how expensive it was just to animate the "Mirai" characters for the intro to "Culture Japan". It was so expensive that he had to take shortcuts just to finish a 90 second intro.

Frankly, he talks a good game, but I'll believe it when I see it.

Yea, Danny is always posting Mirai wallpapers on his site. Wouldn't mind if he would put wallpaper images of Mirai's outfits in the Moekana and soon to be release Moekanji cards.

Would love to have Mirai in her tiger outfit as a wallpaper.

So... by purchasing the subbed Qwaser Of Stigmata (and manga vols. 1 & 2), am I helping the state of affairs by fiscally showing public interest in Qwaser Of Stigmata; thereby improving it's overall chances of getting a dub? Which would behoove you guys and myself (I'd buy it again). Or... am I deteriorating the state of affairs by bending to the will of a company that is releasing a sub only product, thereby reducing it's chance of getting a dub because said company already got it's pound of flesh?

Granted, no matter what the case is; I'm buying it in whatever format becomes available to me.

Me too. Once in a Blue Moon, I've even been known to buy something twice. Once subbed, and then again when the dubbed version is released. Conversely; I've purchased anime, and then discovered a more complete set. These cases are rare, but do happen when regarding an anime I really like.

I don't do it willy-nilly though. The Madoka L.E.s for example were out of my league. There was an Anime Classics Complete Series Edition of Gunslinger Girl that I wanted too, but I couldn't justify it considering I already own everything contained in it piecemeal.

Yea, I think they're trying to do that "made to order" thing that Waner Brothers does.
Meaning, you place an order they burn it and give it you.
Hope it works.
None of those are titles I'm intrested in but, they may pick up a title I like someday.

Some people get a little worried about this "burn on demand" thing-if they use cheap quality dvd blanks then you have every right to be worried about it's longevity.

Yes! Part of their print on demand service that Sony started up on niche titles. Personally, I'll just watch the shows on Crackle for free.

So, am I to understand that these titles' materials and production standards are lower than the average DVD? They're DVD-R like something I would make on my own computer?

It also means that if you think "nah, I'll get those in maybe 2 years after I first buy a bunch more high priority titles" you might not get them at all, because they'll possibly have been pulled by that time.
ImaginAsian isn't Sony, but AFAIK their Orguss TV "print on demand" offer lasted less than a year before it was pulled. And pulled in that case meant "can't find it anywhere, not even if you want to pay double MSRP".

Thanks for the response Cheap One.

Thanks for the response SD Maruko-kun. I'll keep that in mind if a title I simply must have comes out in that format. There's also something to be said for putting your money where your mouth is. By purchasing said cheap DVD-R's, or conversely, overpriced items, you are showing market interest; thereby increasing demand for such products. Not purchasing them, is almost like voting against them. I've put my money where my mouth is on more than a few occasions. It helps that there's a lot of anime out there. I've also lost a few battles. I'm now the proud owner of two Blu-ray players. Something I have previously said that I would never have. A person's wallet (or purse) speaks volumes, more than their vote I venture. It can tell the industry: "No, I wont pay prices relative to Japan's because I don't live in Japan." or it can tell the industry: "Sure, I'll pay good American dollar for a substandard format because it's the only format available." The choice is yoursours. I have been making some tough decisions, but I spoke my voice, by not purchasing particular items that I otherwise might have purchased; and will try to continue to do so.

Examples:

1.) Wanted the Fate import, but didn't purchase due to outrageous cost; although I have paid more for anime in the past.
2.) Wanted Bakemonogatari fanservice extravaganza, but decided against it due to it's price reflecting the current state of affairs in anime in Japan rather than America (overpriced).
3.) Interested is piqued in recent DVD-R releases, but not interested enough to warrant purchasing a substandard medium.

...Sorry for the rant. Anyhoo, I'm glad I already have Orguss 2 on DVD.

@kiku: I know the feeling.
I myself absolutely refuse to pay for DRM-ed anime files, so I don't "buy" the Eve no Jikan/Time of Eve release on iTunes, even though I really, really would like to support the makers of that wonderful small anime.
And IIRC the only other subbed option would be to import the expensive Japanese Blu-Ray even though I don't have a Blu-Ray player and don't intend to get one either. (trololol: the Japanese DVD doesn't have subs)
Damn it! Why can't those guys just put a paypal donate link or something like that on the Eve no Jikan website!
</off-topic rant>
I would have like to have been able to get all 3 "Super Dimension(al)" TV series (Macross/Southern Cross/Orguss (1)) ...

Is there some sort of relation between Macross and Orguss that I'm unaware of, or are you simply referring to the title similarity? BTW you can find Orguss 2 on DVD online for about $30.00 used or $60.00 new. BTW (again) What is DRM-ed?

DRM is Digital Rights Management

It is the thing put into music, video games, shows and movies in eshops that locks content to just one machine. Makes it a pain to move the file to other devices you own and of course what it was made for it also makes it a pain to pirate.

Some times it will be put into a DVD as well.

DRM is mainly put into stuff you buy from eshops like iTunes that he mentioned. The digital stuff on the A site will sometimes have it as well, like Ubisoft games.

AFAIK the 3 TV series ran on the same Japanese channel sequentially in the same timeslot (Macross 1982-10-03 to 1983-06-26, Orguss 1983-07-03 to 1984-04-08 and Southern Cross 1984-04-15 to 1984-09-30) and the channel "themed" those 3 mecha anime together by giving them a common prefix... wink
(plus there's some production company overlap between them)

Oh, how prices diverge between versions... Orguss 02 DVD (R2 UK): "new from UKpounds 2.54" wink (and an american marketplace seller "trolling" by offering the R2 UK release shipped from the USA) on the UK site of a certain other shop...

The Macross Trilogy is as follows:

Original Japanese "Macross" trilogy release:
1.) Super Dimension Fortress Macross
2.) Super Dimensional Calvalry Southern Cross
3.) Genesis Climber Mospeada

Stateside "Robotech" trilogy release:
1.) Macross Saga
2.) Masters
3.) New Generation

Super Dimension Century Orguss Two is a sererate entity altogether if I'm not mistaken. I don't believe that it is in any way related to the Macross/Robotech franchise, although I could be wrong.

In Japan, AFAIK Mospeada had zero relation to Macross and Southern Cross, while Orguss (which is the prequel to Orguss 02) at least shared the "Super Dimension(al)"/"Choujikuu" prefix + channel & timeslot with both.
(so Robotech combined 2 series only related by genre (transforming piloted mecha) and prefix and 1 series only related by genre and miraculously the result was pretty decent.)

( -_-; browsing too many sites because of these posts... Oh, Madoka Magica DVD UK version costing only about 45% of even Rightstuf's reduced price of the USA version... can't resist... there goes another ~$43...)

Well-like I said before, if they use cheap ass dvd blanks it won't last long-if you use good quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo Uden it will-trust me on this. I've used cheap media and it only lasted a couple of months in a few cases.

I did notice T-1 to T-3 listed to the left of day 1 to day 13, but I didn't yet connect the dots to realizing that meant the T-1 to T-3 sales got extended to end at the same time as the "days" sale...

It was because half of us at the Fandom Post forums requested it and Shawne gladly obliged.

Well-like I said before, if they use cheap ass dvd blanks it won't last long-if you use good quality media like Verbatim or Taiyo Uden it will-trust me on this. I've used cheap media and it only lasted a couple of months in a few cases.
That makes sense zrdb. I've always used Memorex CD's and DVD's. How do you rate memorex in terms of quality?

Has anybody noticed... Shamanic Princess got pushed back from January 22nd to April 9th? I don't know why I whine about it, while my "uwatched pile" looms before me so mightily. So much great anime, so very little time.

Eh, typical Media blasters delays...
That's why I don't like pre-ordering from them.
I'll get it when Right Stuf it's self says: In Stock.

I've had mixed results with Memorex-for a vhs to dvd copy I always use Verbatim blanks and I've never had any problems at all.

Talk about a blast from the past.

Level E's special gift is a Slap/Snap Bracelet.

I haven't seen those things in ages and there was a pretty big fad on them back in the 90s.

Oh yeah, I definitely remember the original slap bracelet fad. The new bracelets are much better made. Solid rubber instead of the thin fabric or paper and thus no chance of skin tearing anymore smile

Was coming back to post that in the Anime News topic, but I guess you beat me too it.

Oh, well it's really good news!

There is an OVA as well planned for it.

Obviously hope Section 23 gets this ASAP & has Chris Patton & Luci Christian dub it!

I heard Sentai was wanting to get the other OVA as well. Would be a great time to grab all of this together. Yes Chris and Luci need to return for the English dub to play Keima and Elsie

Funi has slid the release date for "Index" back another week. It's now being released on the 18th. They made that decision sometime within the last two weeks. I'm getting a little tired of this crap. What's next? Are they going to slide Shana season 2 into next year?

Sliding a release date back a week is no big deal. They usually do this when they can't guarantee that every retail (B&M) store will receive the title on time. This is especially true during the holiday season, where the shipping industry is very congested. After all, the last thing a store wants is to receive a product a day or two after the official release date.

You will still get the title early through Right Stuf though. Online retailers and distributors are the first ones to receive the title.
