How do companies even make a profit off these animes they get a hold of? I've seen the list on ANN with how much ADV spent on 29 of there titles. Some where over $500,000. To break even on a title, you would have to sell nearly 7,000-13,000 units to break even. I doubt they even print that many off.

Well, you have to consider that those licenses were acquired back during the end of the "bubble era", when licensing costs were being driven up to ridiculous amounts due to bidding wars, inflated expectations, etc. Then you also have to consider dubbing costs, since ADV dubbed nearly everything they licensed, and you can just imagine that number getting higher. Nowadays licensing is actually at one of its lowest points. A translator for CrunchyRoll even admitted that the highest amount he knew of a recent license amounted to roughly $8,000-$12,000 per episode. Kurau cost about $500,000 back then, but now a show of a similar length could potentially be licensed for roughly $208,000-$312,000 at most, if the high-price range the translator admitted is truly on the highest-side of licensing costs right now. For example, I wouldn't be surprised if Nozomi got all of Aria the Animation (by "all" I mean every single bit of it, not just one season) for just a little more than what Kurau cost ADV, at most.

Again...I ask, how do they make their money back? It's a high cost amount, you still have to sell a lot of units to break even. I just don't understand how they make a profit.

Again...I ask, how do they make their money back? It's a high cost amount, you still have to sell a lot of units to break even. I just don't understand how they make a profit. There are too many uncertainties, since we don't have actual numbers (sales, production costs or individual license fees) for the newer titles. The numbers you gave were from a shady side of business, where even Quarkboy from Fandom Post (a translator that works directly with the Japanese companies) said that the prices are way too high. Many of the low end titles are far far less than those prices. Most titles usually just break even or are slightly in the red. However, there are a few titles that really rake in the cash and that's where they make their profit. Funimation continues to make huge profits on the DBZ license, while Sentai noted that several of their titles (High School of the Dead, Angel Beats, Clannad, Princess Resurrection) have made decent or large profits.

And as titles RightStuf should get...how about recusing the fully dubbed version of Card Captor, it was fully aired in other English speaking counties. And other shows, like Rave Master (seeing as Fairy Tail is a hit), Monster Rancher (again, all 3 seasons showed in other English speaking countries), and maybe you can work a deal with Nelvana to get Beyblade and the rest of Metabot released.
Ah, not to forget Digimon and Zoids...I find it depressing that Digimon hasn't been put out. Granted, these are mostly animes for younger people and kids. I still feel as if they should be put out there for the people grew up on that sort of stuff.

Rescuse any titles that Bandai and other companies that have let the license expire. Ronin Warriors, Dragon Drive, Pilot Candidates...and there are more, I'm sure. And I would love the yaoi Pure Romance dubbed.

Doesn't Sony have this series or did they let the license expire?

I'm not very informed when it comes to such matters. When I post in any of the "licensing request" type topics, I'm simply pining for anime that I would love to see released on DVD. I post my requests in hopes that any company (preferably TRSI) will hear my pleas. If nothing else, I at least get the inside scoop from those (much) more informed than me such as joelgundam01. Once again, thanks for all the hard facts joelgundam01; it's much appreciated by kiku.
Oh yeah, and it sure would be nice if Blood+ got a box set style release; and Blood The Last Vampire for that matter.
