So i'm curious, how do you choose which anime to buy? Do you view other peoples reviews, read synopsies, or like me use *ahem* "alternate means" to screen what you choose to buy? Or do you just buy everything you set your eyes on, like I suspect some people do.

I,too, read reviews. At first i used to pick something and watch. After a few bad choices, i review everything as through as i can that i get now. No more random choosing.

Waaaaaay too much money to randomly pick stuff anymore. My reasoning is that I'll watch all or some of a series. If it impresses me then they gain my steadfast patronage. If not, then i don't waste my money on mediocre shows. Oh, and always buy stuff on sale when possible. (Except Lucky Star and the Haruhi novels which i shall buy with gusto ASAP.)

I buy the more expensive single disc releases based on fansubs. Every show I download in full, I buy. Every show I see in part and like, I buy. Sadly, there are just so many good shows that don't get licensed, but at least TRSI took some really unexpected ones with Emma and Marimite.
I usually only blind buy for especially cheap releases, and then only if I'm fairly certain I'll like it based on the advice of a couple people I really trust.
But the majority of my purchases are first-release single discs of shows I've already seen.
I don't buy based on reviews or trailers because I agree with few reviewers and trailers suck with almost no exceptions.

I usually take a look at chatter on the net. Then I'll check out spoiler blogs, image boards, and the rest. I don't preview by other means, so when I actually buy something, it's nearly a blind buy. But I do try to find out as much as possible about a show, without spoiling myself on it, before committing to buy. In general, shows that I am pretty sure I'll like I will buy singles. Shows where I have less interest, I might buy as a set.

I don't buy based on reviews or trailers because I agree with few reviewers and trailers suck with almost no exceptions. A good policy, much like mine. Except, i not quite as honorable as you. If i watch a full series, unless i like it i won't buy it. I feel that if the show is bad and i buy it, i only encourage more shows like it. So i spend lots of money on good shows to show my enthusiasm. I usually take a look at chatter on the net. Then I'll check out spoiler blogs, image boards, and the rest. I don't preview by other means, so when I actually buy something, it's nearly a blind buy. Shows where I have less interest, I might buy as a set. So your saying you'll spend 50-100 dollars on a series (box set) your not sure you'll like? Seems like a waste to me. Especially if it turns out the show sucks.

If i watch a full series, unless i like it i won't buy it. What I think is sillier is watching a full series you don't even like =P
