could you explain why ADV is putting out another Noir thinpak set.
Rereleasing sets (two, three, five times) is a good way to squeeze a little more life out of an old product for minimal cost. It costs a lot less, and is much less risky, to put out a third or fourth release of Noir than to go license something new and release that.
Of course, it's precisely because ADV has not licensed anything lately that the sort of
have to keep rereleasing old stuff. In about six months, I believe they'll be done EVERYTHING they currently own and haven't finished yet, save Kiba, which is a partnership with some non-anime company anyway. Until they finally license something new, I mean. Technically they still have Keroro, but it seems highly doubtful that will ever actually see a release. They've indicated that releasing it is contingent upon getting a TV deal, and er, good luck with that. So really, there's nothing left in their catalog but to rerelease older shows.
And lastly, sometimes a company will resolicit a series in a release 99% identical to a former release, simply because it gets things back on B&M store shelves. Best Buy will only stock a SKU for so long before returning it. Rerelease the show in slightly different packaging with a new SKU, and you can get it back on shelves and thus out on the market again.
So it's a combination of things, some relatively unique to ADV and some just standard practice in the market, that are probably resulting in the flood of ADV re-re-re-release boxsets you're seeing.
