even more so than Heroic Age. you wanna talk classic, epic sci-fi, then someone needs to do a faithful job of bringing Legend of the Galactic Heroes to the US.

I'm not saying Infinite Ryvius was bad it's just, i love how PLANETES approaches space travel in a manner which is realistic. It's like a window into the near future.

no humility, none at all.

so many forget the classics when it comes to sci-fi. gimme any of Leiji Matsumoto's classics and i am in otakuden bliss ^_^
not to mention GoLion, of which the first collection is coming out this month. Souko no Strain is also really really good and licensed to come out on dvd this year.

Oh, those do sound good, might get my hands on them.
P.S. I am also a conceited and narcissistic bastard grin

I usually read about it before I buy it. Not reviews just the storyline. I've been disappointed a couple of times, but mostly it works for me.

i'd stand by them any day, conceited bastard or not wink

i was kind of "meh" in infinite ryvius, but the classic Gundam, Gundam 0083, Gundam Zeta, and Char's Counterattack are also out of this world.

big breasted woman aside, i actually also really enjoyed Desert Punk. very cynical and pessimistic and anti-hero. it's also coined a fav phrase/quip of mine:
"we aint learned shit."

hm... one of the best sci-fi/fantasy series i have watched and read in a long time is also Twelve Kingdoms. read the novels and watch the anime.

The classic gundams were quite good, though i'm not much of a gundam fan.

Desert Punk was pretty good for about 85% of the show. I kinda lost interest a little later. Bigger and better things ya know.
My favorite anti-hero however has to be Onizuka (from GTO for you deprived people). No one, absolutely no one, is more awesome than he is. grin

Netflix has been my friend. It's a rather cheap way to access a HUGE selection. I've been lucky enough to enjoy the stuff that I bought blindly, but reviews are always helpful to a point.

If it is a title that I have never heard of then I will see if there is a review on it at my main anime fansite. If there isn't then I will do a Wiki search on it. Fail those then it will be determined by talk on the internet and if it sounds like something I would enjoy.

If I have it on fansubs then I will buy it when it comes out if I enjoyed it on any level. There are several titles in my collection that I have actually never watched but I bought them on DVD because I watched them on fansubs.

I have done very little blind buying, Noir, Elfin Lied, Big O/II, and Gungrave are some of the very rare blind buys I have.

same with me. my motto has always been, if you license it, i will buy it. doesn't matter if i have it/seen it/etc on fansub (vhs or download). me like, me buy smile

Noir and Big O r0ck. i want to see Gungrave, but didn't have a chance to pick it up before Geneon bailed. now i keep an eye out for it in random, hole-in-the wall b&m shops. i'll find it eventually...
