I once watched this anime review show on Veoh, and they reviewed Planetes and Bleach. Guess which they liked more... They badmouthed one of my favorite shows and the worst part was, it was because of their simplemindedness. They said Planetes lacked direction. No, it has direction it's just subtle and not overtly obvious. They said it was boring. Well, maybe for people who need action sequences every 5 seconds for a show to be "interesting". Either way, i never trust what i don't see with my own eyes. I alone am judge, jury, and if need be, executioner. for myself, it depends on the reviewer, of which i have become one over the last few months. chris b of aodvd is one of the few reviewers whose opinion i give more credit to than most others. that aside, i know what i like and don't like so ultimately, i'm going to go with my instinct which hardly ever lets me down. i also find that an anime i pick up and am so-so on, by going back a couple years later, i enjoy it more. as i mature, so does my overall enjoyment of anime. experience lends greater understanding, so i get more enjoyment out of the anime because i can appreciate more of the whole effort. PLANETES is an excellent anime. probably one of the best sci-fi series i have seen. it's right up there with the Seikai no Monshou series (of which we are still missing an OVA here in the states -.-)

my 6th sense from almost 14 years of watching anime. My spider sense is tingling.... Happens to me as well. After oh, some 15 odd years watching anime i can smell a $H177Y show from several miles away. (and no i'm not trying to one up you by saying 15 instead of 14......but i still win.) for myself, it depends on the reviewer, of which i have become one over the last few months. chris b of aodvd is one of the few reviewers whose opinion i give more credit to than most others. that aside, i know what i like and don't like so ultimately, i'm going to go with my instinct which hardly ever lets me down.

I like the way you think. So, you do reviews? That's interesting. I myself am helping my brothers and our friends start a website that does reviews. Dunno when it'll be up..... I'm glad you like PLANETES, some people just don't get it. *sigh*, so i heard about Seikai no Monshou, is it really that good? I'm on the fence.

...so i heard about Seikai no Monshou, is it really that good? I'm on the fence. In my opinion, not really. It does have some interesting quirks here and there, but it feels more like an above average adventure story than an epic voyage. The primary problem I have with the franchise is the cast: all the characters are static. Yes, the character interactions are pleasant, but any meaningful development is relatively nonexistant.

(and no i'm not trying to one up you by saying 15 instead of 14......but i still win.) lol! no worries. it's not so much the years that determines the anime 6th sense, though it does help, but i have known those of lesser experience but with a good eye for good anime. crappy anime is just that, crappy anime :P I like the way you think. why thank you. so do i So, you do reviews? I'm glad you like PLANETES, some people just don't get it. *sigh*, so i heard about Seikai no Monshou, is it really that good? I'm on the fence. i love doing reviews. i do one a week for Wasabi Anime and Denkyu, though they are at least a month behind (if not two) on my reviews which is a bit aggravating. i'm considering doing it all myself via my lj. i currently only have the freeby version, but i can do a lot more if i get the full version which is what i intend to do. PLANETES rocks. and, imo. Crest of the Stars and Banner of the Stars I and II are some of the best sci-fi i have seen. star trek and babylon 5 only wish they were that good. ah, how i wish the original novels would get translated faithfully and released here in the states.

Hard to find good sci-fi anime these days, what with the market inundated with Gundam look alikes. PLANETES is definitely a cut above the rest. So, wait. You like the way you think or like the way I think. Or you like the way i think i like, *head explodes*

Hard to find good sci-fi anime these days Bandai Ent desperately needs to license Heroic Age. As overused as the word "epic" in its adjectival form is, nothing else properly describes this show.

You people seem to be forgetting about Infinite Ryvius. Tried to order that in the most recent Bandai sale, but it was canceled by the manufacturer. Ah well, probably for the best, it was mostly order filler anyway.

Ah well, probably for the best, it was mostly order filler anyway. I put Infinite Ryvius in the same regard as Planetes. I say Planetes is slightly better, but Infnite Ryvius feels more ambitious overall.

Souko no Strain is also really really good and licensed to come out on dvd this year.
