My Vampire Effect film goes by the title Twins Effect. A fairly fun film. Much better than its crap sequel which has nothing plotwise share with the original, simply the twin actresses.
Returner always seems to get a bad reputation for being all flash with no substance. I say "meh" to those complainers. The film is an awful lot of fun & that's just fine by me!
I've been a fan of Versus for a long while now. Did you get the original version or version 1.5? I've thus far only seen the original version. Does your DVD release of the film have the bonus material / footage? Don't allow that stuff to go unwatched! I dare say that some of that material is as entertaining as the film itself! I wouldn't be nearly as much of a Tak Sakaguchi fan had it not been for seeing him candidly.
Did you check out Azumi based on the idea of following Ryuhei Kitamura? Ryuhei is great, but I have yet to see any of his films that I have taken to as strongly as Versus. (probably about 5 all together)
If you wish to follow Tak & have a very lenient sense of humor, I urge you to check out Battlefield Baseball & Snot Rocket. Both are goofy but quite fun.
Sukeban Boy - Have you also seen Noboru's Machine Girl? It's absolutely worth your time. Following those two you will need to see Meatball Machine (from director of Battlefield Baseball & Snot Rocket), it very much keeps in the theme of Human/Technology. ..Following that there are of course the classic Tetsuo movies. A tad on the artsy side, but worth the watch.
I haven't seen Tokyo Gore Police yet (despite it resting right beside me on my shelf), but it seems to also share many of the same themes.

The other films that I singled out were simply for the sake of offering a thumbs up for good film /fun, anyways ;P

Finally started checking out horror films. So far seen-
The Locker- a silly movie, yet not terrible.(need to see sequel)
Dark Water -A sad and really well made film. Recommend.
I have Sukeban Deka 1 & 2. Enjoyed them both very much. Some good unintentional humor.

Just watched Hula Girls. I could gush over this film. It is extremely well made. No wonder it won the Japanese Academy Award for best picture.

IMO this is the kind of movie Hollywood has forgotten how to make. Knowing it is based on a true story makes the "tearing up" factor even greater. Stars the same female lead actress, Yu Aoi (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yu_Aoi) that was in Honey and Clover. It is also a good window into a vanished way of life for some Japanese in 1965. DVD has a second bonus disc with lots of good behind the scenes stuff.
Comes subtitled only. Can't recommend this one enough.
Also re-watched Gunhed. I remember seeing this one back in 1990 and it still is a pretty good movie today. The thing that impresses me the most about this one is that you can watch the original Japanese version and still know what is going on because there is so much english being spoken.
Re-watched Cutie Honey: the Movie. A live action version of the anime legend, this is one of the most entertaining and funny films I've seen. I first saw this film at a convention and they couldn't get the subtitles to work. I still got tell what was going on and enjoyed it greatly.

Hula Girls is one that is on my "to watch" list. Been wanting to see it for quite a while. Is it something like a feel good story or just a good story in general? If so you should try Hana-The Tale of a Reluctant Samuri . This one suprised me and i really enjoyed it. Definately reccommend it if you haven't seen it.

Shall we Dance is a really terrific movie. Don't be afraid of it if you've seen the awful Richard Gere remake that came out here in the States a couple of years ago. This movie is waaaay better.

I also second the recommendation for 1 Litre of Tears. But be prepared with the tissues, it lives up to it's name. I loved the two actors who played her parents. They were so awesome.

I can't believe no one has recommended Nodame Cantabile yet. (or did I miss it?) It is really great! I can't recommend it enough.

This has been on my "to watch" list for a while though i've been reluctant to see it for the tissue factor. Though i've heard a lot of good things on this movie as well.

Hula Girls is both a feel good story and a good story. Hana-Tale of a Reluctant Samurai is on my list as well.

Finally saw Train-Man last night. Even though I had read the manga, I found myself wondering how it was going to turn out before I caught myself. That's how much the movie sucked me in. Couldn't help but to get a little misty from the dialogue in the last scenes.cry

I watched Train Man a few weeks ago. My sister and I both really enjoyed it which was nice, as I picked it up based solely on the preview we watched on the Love*Com DVD.
