Like any good artform, not every show is going to be for everybody. I love slow paced shows like this, personally. I have since Mahou Tsukai ni Taisetsu na Koto: Somedays' Dreamers, but I did notice quite a few comments across several forums indicating boredom.

So don't feel TOO BAD if you fall asleep again. :P

Congratulations on licensing ARIA, guys! I had this series on the top of my "most wanted license" list for such a long time I was afraid that it would never receive an R1 license. Needless to say I wasted little time pre-ordering Season 1 and I'm hoping that you also secured Seasons 2 and 3 and the OVA as well.

being sub only is no problem to me since i have only watched my anime in japanese with english subtitles for years now. i also agree that/would like to appeal to TRSI's good taste in anime to not mess with the already set terminology within the world of ARIA.

i, for one, consider myself intelligent enough to figure out and understand what pair, single, and prima mean. to second one such example. it's the precious gems like these of anime that simply require a liner note (subtitle note at top of screen) or an extras section on the dvd.

that aside, i hope the kind lady i spoke to on the phone earlier this afternoon when updating my account info can still hear. upon asking me if i needed anything else, i inquired as to the special 2pm news. i consequently squealed a very happy fangirl "YES!"" into the phone and promptly asked to preorder it smile

Yes and hopefully grow and grow.

The Cult of Kleckner has a new home.

mwahahaha laugh
i have no problem admitting that Kleckner owns part of my soul (along with others), and if he keeps licensing such delish crack, he'll own more square footage.

It's an unfortunate fact that "noteworthy" titles don't sell well. So rest assured that your purchases have only reinforced the idea that these titles will sell well enough in sub-only form to keep releasing them (I hope, it's still kind of early in that game).

I think a lot of folks, not here but at another certain message board, misunderstand why some shows aren't getting dubbed. They seem to think it's because of some kind of elitism or companies trying to gouge profits at their expense. I find it frustrating that they don't understand the simple concept that it costs a lot of money to dub a series - money that these shows won't make back.

I'm not sure if you were making a separate point or mistook the expression of my disappointment as lack of understanding, however, I fully realize that dubbing is often of comparable cost to licensing. While I am a bit surprised that Aria (along with a few other sub-only titles of late) isn't considered to be of sufficient caliber for a dub to be profitable, I obviously trust TRSI/Nozomi's research more than my own "gut feeling". That does not dispel my disappointment however.

As is constantly repeated by various industry members on panels, podcasts and interviews, the best way for fans to make a difference is via their spending habits. I fully agree that my primary (if not only) means of communication to the powers that be is by way of what I choose to buy. If I don't agree with something I just don't buy it, not out of spite or malice (quite the contrary, I love TRSI), but that it is simply the sole means of expression available to me.

Conversely, I'd happily pay what I've come to consider the "normal" price for the option to watch Aria subbed or dubbed if only to be able to watch it without ugly subtitle text marring the otherwise beautiful imagery. If the oft-quoted 10:1 dub:sub sales ratio is anywhere close to true then the fact that a dubbed Aria isn't deemed viable is really an extraordinary indicator of how "nitch" the title must be. How educational this has all been. wink

YAY! I saw this yesterday while working late and definitely turned around from being tired to ready to bounce all around work. Put my pre-order in practically within minutes of seeing the announcement. I originally found Aria when it was published by ADV Manga however it was confusing since it wasn't the original first volume, then a friend showed me the anime and fell in love with it. I'm REALLY glad Nozomi picked it up! My friend and I have been bugging our anime club to show it for a while now.
