LOL - This reminds me of the Goodfellas scene, when all of the guys showed up at court the first time Henry Hill went to court as a kid.
Sorry to hear about the ticket, and as a lifelong speeder, I sympathize with your logic, but the law is the law, so you have to learn to take it when you get caught. Invest in a good radar/laser detector (where legal), keep your eyes open, and if you do get pulled over, be very formal and polite (sir, ma'am).
My best story: Once I was doing 90+ MPH through a 70 MPH limit, and I was surprised by the blue lights in the median behind some cover, so I immediately pulled over, even before the THP officer got onto the highway from the median. When he caught up to me, he took my license, checked it out, and came back with only a warning ticket. He said that I was the only driver all day whom he didn't have to chase down, so he gave me a break. lol I've also had a couple of fortunate occasions when the officers got calls while I was pulled over, and had to let me go with only a verbal warning.
Not that I officially condone speeding, of course, but so far, my official ticket record is 103 MPH through a 70 MPH limit, and that one was a bit expensive. My current vehicle cuts off the acceleration just before 100 MPH, so that record won't be broken anytime soon.
Have you ever heard of Mark Rask? I wish we could take that approach in this country, but sadly, I think the autobahn will always be unique to Germany... and even the Germans are having to fight to keep it.

Ninety percent of my driving is on interstate highways, and most traffic is already going 10-15 MPH over the limit, anyway. On normal city streets, you've got to take it easy and pick your spots. Either way, you really can't blame the cops, because they're not the ones who set the limits. Besides, most of them speed, too, but when on duty, they have to do their jobs. It's all part of the zen of speeding.
If you're going to be a speeder, you just have to accept the fact that you'll get a few tickets over the course of your life, just as the Samurai accepts the inevitability of death as part of his duty. Naturally, you'll be angry the first couple of times you get pulled over, but once you understand the cycle, it won't bother you.
Think of it this way; divide the days of your life that you've driven over the posted limit by the amount of dollars that you've paid in tickets (and minor insurance rate increases). Speeding is actually a great bargain, and it's not easy to find that kind of value in today's economy (except for the bargains at Right Stuf, of course). One should always be polite to officers, never offer excuses, and embrace speeding tickets as confirmation of a life lived to the fullest and without regret. Such is The Way.
And people say I wouldn't make a good parent. Pfff...

Naturally, you'll be angry the first couple of times you get pulled over... Just as samurai are understandably upset the first few times they die. ;-) Wouldn't that make the art of driving fast "speedo"? And people say I wouldn't make a good parent. Pfff... Wise words sensei Stefanie. Any child would do well to be enlightened with such a zen take on the world.

I agree that I was speeding, and I know I kind of drive fast, but I can fully operate my car at 53 mph and my brakes and definitely perform a fast stop if needed. While all of that may be true, it's the things out of your control that can cause an accident. I used to get in this argument with my ex-boyfriend all the time. Doesn't matter how good a driver YOU are, there's a million other drivers out there who suck and can kill you if you're not careful. All you need is a stray pet jumping out in front of your car, or someone else running a red light to hit you. The limit is there for safety reasons, and cutting your reaction time by driving over it is a disaster waiting to happen. That same ex-boyfriend was hit by a driver going 20 miles over the speed limit through an intersection. My ex stopped for a fire truck, but the guy behind him didn't have time and plowed into him, totalling both cars and nearly breaking his back. He has pain all the time now and he's only in his early 30's. Seems silly to have to live with all that just so they could get somewhere a little bit faster than everyone else. Ok, I'm done with the lecture. Don't become a parent Stephanie, you can get launched into mommy mode at any time and with no warning. lol

Don't become a parent Stefanie, you can get launched into mommy mode at any time and with no warning. lol LOL Good advice! The limit is there for safety reasons... Well, I generally agree that's the accepted theory, more often on city streets than on major highways, but I disagree that it's always the actual practice. Because of TRSI rules, we can't get into politics here, and I can't fully explain myself without heading into that territory, so it's probably wise for me to stop here. That same ex-boyfriend was hit by a driver... He has pain all the time now and he's only in his early 30's. A friend of mine, who recently died, had the same thing happen to her several years ago. She was sitting at a red light for some time, and some moron just kept going right into her. She was in poor health and couldn't work for the rest of her life. However, I wouldn't blame that type of accident on general speeding, but on being a lousy driver and a generally careless person. Plenty of accidents like that happen within the speed limits, and it doesn't take much force from a large metal machine to destroy a human body. Again, I have plenty more on that particular point, but I'm trying to observe the forum rules by avoiding politics.
Give me an empty left lane on a clear day, with a full tank of gasoline and a Virgil Fox CD, and I'm one happy woman.

Doesn't matter how good a driver YOU are, there's a million other drivers out there who suck and can kill you if you're not careful. I'm pretty much convinced I'm the only sane driver in Georgia, so these words are why I've become pretty paranoid about driving here. I have practically 100% control over my driving but 0% over a random person having the same level of control.

Yes, it's been a while since I've heard "Hot Rod Lincoln," too. After you posted that, I looked for the lyrics and found a page full of the old hot rod songs.

I'll have to get someone to drive me home tonight, or I'll get a ticket.
