Oddly enough, I still find myself a tad quicker to hop onto my PS3 in order to go online, simply due to it loading all programs & booting up incredibly swiftly. This new laptop is in no way slow, but it does take those few extra moments to load up when first starting. .. Not to mention that I am temporarily without a fixed location for the unit. It presently gets unplugged & placed quite out of the way imbetween uses (leaving the PS3 already ready to go/quickly available at the press of a button.)
As soon as I get a nice stand on wheels to rest this machine on, I do believe that it will be getting much more use, so I'm in no way regreting the fact that I got it.
I haven't had any real opportunity to use the CD/DVD burner yet, but I did pop in my BluRay of Wall-E for a little bit & it looked beautiful. ...I'm going to need to buy another HDMI cord so that I can display my laptop work upon my television..

I'm more or less rambling about nonsense that I'm sure none of you care too horribly much about, but I'm just so happy to be capable of typing again. *shakes fist at PS3 controller*. :P

lol

Although it can't handle multitasking like a normal computer, the PS3 certainly is a fast booter.

I now have a fixed location (on wheels) for my laptop. At present it is pushed up against the wall, but, thanks to the wheels, I am capable of rolling it out into the center of the room, should I fancy to.
I might probably take some pics later. .. not soon later. later later.

Speaking of pictures, I tried taking some with my Playstation Eye. The 640×480 resolution delivers about what you'd expect. In low light, it's just plain horrible, but with bright light, it's acceptable for video chat/blogging purposes. Maybe it'll be more fun when Sony releases Eyepet later this year.

haha. A friend & myself were previously very much looking forward to Eyepet. ... Of course, his PS3 has taken a recent hit & getting a PS3 repaired is not quite as easy as getting a 360 repaired (also a much more unlikely occurance), so he has since lost interest, I'd imagine.

I've been reading the rumors/leaks about the PSP-4000 series and the PSP2 (not to mention the PS4). Supposedly, if the rumors pan out, the PSP-4000 will be available later this year, and the PSP2 will launch in 2010, with a sliding screen and without a UMD drive (replacing the UMD with downloaded games). So much for backward compatibility.

I've been toying with the idea of getting a PSP ever since I bought a DS Lite, but aside from using it with my PS3 and maybe playing Gradius Collection, I might not get much use out of it. Besides, I'm a little put off by all of the reviews that focus on the ghosting problem of the PSP-2000 screens, and the scan line artifacts of the PSP-3000 screens. If there were several more games that I wanted, I'd be more inclined to get one, but I'd still want to see what the screens look like, first.

It's been confirmed by a few developers that the PSP2 is alive. However, many believe that the PSP-4000 is the PSP2. Hardware wise, it's the same as the PSP's. Just more compacted and no UMD drive.

Don't worry about backwards compatibility. One thing that Sony mentioned last year was the plan to convert all PSP UMD games into digital files via the PSN.

I like the idea of using the PSP in conjunction with the PS3, but while it does some of the things I'd want, it doesn't do everything.

Additionally, Remote Play allows the PS3 to be turned on and off remotely and allows the PSP to control audio playback from the PS3 to a home theater system without having to use a television. (nice feature) Although most of the PS3's capabilities are accessible with Remote Play, playback of DVDs, Blu-ray Discs, and PlayStation 2 games, most PlayStation 3 games, and copy-protected files stored on the PS3's hard drive is not supported. (not good)

The latest update includes the ability to use Remote Play across the Internet, turn your PlayStation 3 on remotely, use a few applications, and play all PlayStation 1 games, whether stored on the HDD or on an optical disc. (very nice)

That's not bad, but whether it's worth $170.00 is the question, especially with all of the rumors floating around. There are always rumors, but these sound very plausible, especially those regarding the PSP2.

Getting back to the Nintendo DS, I hear that The Legend of Zelda: Spirit Tracks is planned to be released sometime this year. smile

Yeah, that's what I was thinking; given the reported timeline for both. It doesn't make much sense to do a PSP-4000 with a PSP2 that close behind it. Also, I read the same thing regarding the developers.

Those who invested in UMDs (both games and movies) will be glad to know that, assuming that all discs will be able to be converted. Still, the digital files have to be stored somewhere (Memory Stick Duo flash cards?).
