A A. A - Mar 6 2008 Rating: Pretty good! Ooooooooh This is one of those adaptions of a game that goes pretty amazing. For those who don't know the series of games, they follow the adventures of Dante, the son of the legendary demon warrior Sparda, as he tries to etch out a living as a devil hunter. Dante tends to battle with a large sword called Rebellion, and twin handguns called Ebony & Ivory. And he always fights with incredible style. Newcomers to the franchise may not enjoy Dante's battles, since he rarely seems to be in any real danger (although that is probably his source of appeal). Also, longtime fans of the game may be put off by the way he is portrayed (more quiet and irritable than cocky and smartassed), although in a sense of the timeline of the whole franchise (DMC 3, DMC 1, anime, DMC4, DMC 2), it seems to make sense with his characterization. One of the most complained parts about this show is the addition of little girl Patty. Personally, in the sense of the series being one story in the different stories, it makes sense to me. Patty is the female who Dante has an effect on this plot, since his allies in the show, Lady and Trish, have already had their lives changed by him. Basically, give this show a go, you may be pleasantly surprised. And also give its dub a try, since Reuben Langdon (credited as Justin Cause), the voice of Dante from DMC 3 and 4, and possibly the most true actor to Dante's character, provides the voice of our favorite devil hunter. High Production, Fast paced action I've been a fan of the Devil May Cry video games since their incarnation on the PS2. Needless to say, I was excited to hear Dante was coming to the anime screen. Dante isn't nearly as cocky as he is in the video games but I'm glad they went this route because the English dub performance from Justin Cause turned out excellent. A plus is the quality of the animation which is pretty top notch. A great watch for fans of the game. |
