To Heart DVD Collection (Hyb) (thinpak) John Packovich - Nov 12 2008 Rating: Wonderful! incredible animation I bought this collected edition on a whim and I was very happy that I did. What caught my eye first is the quality of the animation throughout the series. The character designs and the backgrounds are drawn with an attention to detail that are too often lacking in many current anime productions. The stories left a smile on my face at the end of each episode. You can see the dating sim origination of the show, but that does not detract from the slice of life feel of this series. If you like stories that make you feel good along with classic, beautiful animation, I highly recommend this series. Harumi's Bad Play DVD (S) Adult Kevin H - Nov 15 2008 Rating: Pretty good! Just what the doctor ordered for all of you lolicon fans & Lolita lovers I thought this was a pretty good, although short, h- film. True, the animation wasn't up there with the classics, but it was as good, if not better than you will see on TV on a Saturday AM. There wasn't any plot, it was just constant sex throughout, however, I thought that the ending was hilarious. The only really bad part about it in my opinion, was that it was so short. They could have plugged a little plot in there and made it an hour long, so you're not paying almost 30 bucks for only 30 mins. I also thought that it was a bit refreshing to finally see a young looking girl that didn't magically sprout Double-D's as soon as her bra was off. If any of you are into lolicon, this is one of the few videos on the market where you are going to get it. Familiar of Zero, The DVD Box Set (Hyb) Max P. Sterling - Nov 17 2008 Rating: Wonderful! A big time most see if you enjoy good comedy Since Ogie Doggie said it so well I agree with what he/she said. and yes the second Season is a most also. 8) Lost Universe DVD Box Set (Hyb) (Thinpak) Jesse H - Nov 17 2008 Rating: "Okay." The most horrible dub in the universe! Any intelligent discussion of this show has to first deal with the issue of its (*cough*) "interesting" dub which was given to it back in ADV's early days . Folks, I am no sub-snob; quite the opposite. I love dubs dearly and prefer those to the subtitle experience any day. Having said that, I hope you will take me at my word when I say that the only thing this anime is TRULY "best in the whole universe at" is its laughably-horrible and hilarious English voice acting. Seriously, the dub is SO bad that you will find yourself watching it just to laugh at it time and time again! I can't tell you how many times Kane squeaks in defiance of a burly enemy, how many villains sound like they were having a colonoscopy during their evil speeches, or how many times Canal deadpans during life-and-death situations (and, contrary-wise, freaks out over minor utterances). In all fairness, ADV's script-writers bore a big part of the blame for this mess. When you're playing a loving granny who screetches, "Sorry Kane--you're too young for a bottle of HOOOOOCH!", how else can you live with yourself unless you play it ridiculously over-the-top? The discrepancies between the emotions portrayed on-screen and given by the actors also might point to bad management--not giving the actors the information they needed to do their jobs. This WAS one of ADV's very first projects, after all. Anyway, the final word on the dub is this: the sub is far better from a literal standpoint (both in terms of voice acting and translation), but the dub track is infinitely more fun in the "so-bad-it's-great" sort of way. To get the full experience, watch both. Other than its amazing(ly bad) dub, "Lost Universe" is a pretty typical space-age adventure story. This show touts its ties with "Slayers," but the buyer should understand that the relationship is mostly due to the art. The plot seems geared toward a slightly younger audience, although you will get some pretty hilarious episodes here and there (the "chicken-hijacking-hijinx" one was particularly good). It is also worth noting that this anime and its characters start to grow on you more as it goes, so don't be discouraged by a "slumpy" early-middle part. In short, I give "Lost Universe" a 6.5 out of 10. It's not the best sci-fi anime around by any stretch, but it is a pleasurable watch that will keep its viewer entertained throughout. RightStuf's release is also a huge improvement (translation, presentation) over the previous ADV release, and the price is right, too. |
