Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie DVD (Hyb)
Ana S. Baez - Jan 28 2004 Rating: Pretty good! Sonic: The Movie is back, now with a lower price! Sonic Fans probably remember this title all too well. Back in 1999 ADV packed the two Sonic the Hedgehog OAVs from Japan into one nice 'movie' for us. Now it's 5 years later and this nifty title is back. The contents are the same, but DVD has been repacked into a new box, and a issued new lower price. Good news for me, because I had already wasted more for the VHS back when it was released. Sonic the Hedgehog: The Movie only really needs to apply to the fans. The plot is simple, Dr. Robotnik is up to his evil schemes again, and is threatening to destroy Sonic's world if he doesn't stop the Robot Generator from exploding, and his latest creation, Metal Sonic. The story, new characters and locations may throw you off, but it's all got a Sonic flair to it. Especially the music, sounds just like something you'd hear in one of Sonic's games. Too bad there was never a soundtrack for this released. The DVD itself is top notch, a nice clear image and great sound, just what I'd expect from any other DVD. The menus are clear and easy to navigate as well. You've also got the choice of English or Japanese as the spoken language, and English or Spanish subtitles. The DVD also has a scene selection, character bios, and a slide show. Also packed in are a ton of previews for other ADV titles. Glad to see they haven't forgotten our one and only blue hedgehog. The lower price is also a BIG plus. Overall, a great item for Sonic fans to pick up. I'd give it a 'Wonderful!' but not every loves Sonic, now do they? Terry C. Collins - Aug 1 2004 Rating: Wonderful! WAY PAST AWESOME!!! Rumors have been spread that this dvd has no japanese audio track. WRONG!!! This awesome, action-packed adventure captures the true Sonic the Hedgehog in all his glory. No freedom fighters, no babysitting little punks named "Chris". Just super sonic action! Sonic and Tails are tricked by Dr. Eggman to race towards the city of Eggman Land to stop a weapon of mass destruction. Once there, they face Sonic's greatest challenge to date. The mechanical menace, Hyper Metal Sonic! Sonic, Tails, and YES even Knuckles team up with the president's hyper daughter Sarah, and a senile old owl to take on Dr. Eggman. This movie is actually two OAVs combined into a full-length feature. It's a preferred buy as opposed to the lame Sonic X DVDs. 9.75/10!!! Ronnie Seibuno - Jul 19 2005 Rating: Wonderful! This is awesome! Taking elements from different classic Sonic games (the original ones for Genesis and Sega CD), and adding new elements and a few extra characters (don't worry, the new characters are just supporting characters, this movie is still all about Sonic), this is the definitive Sonic animation! And it's obvious to anyone that played Sonic CD that this was animated by the same people that did the cutscenes for that game! This movie is great, and it really does capture the feel of the classic Sonic the Hedgehog, even though there's liberties taken to set this apart from the game universe, it still really does feel like a classic Sonic game come to life! The animation is very good, and the character designs very closely resemble the original designs for the game art. The music? Oh, man, the music is FANTASTIC!! The music is all original, but it somehow manages to sound VERY Sonic-ish! This movie has it all! Humor AND action! So, if you're a Sonic fan and you haven't seen this, you should! It's a great addition to anyone's video library! And whether you like your anime subbed or dubbed, this one gives you the choice of language, which, for some reason, doesn't seem to be the case with the Sonic X DVDs, unfortunately. Brandon S. It's funny and it actually bases around the video games (Sonic CD) with all the original badniks and Metal Sonic to boot. If your a huge Sonic the Hedgehog fan like I am, Get this movie you will not be sorry! |
