Gasaraki DVD 1 (Hyb): The Summoning
Kazuki - Dec 28 2000 pyro9999@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! Eva fans, this one's for you!!! If you loved Neon Genesis Evangelion, you should definitely check out Gasaraki. The series has the same intense human drama of Eva, in a slightly more realistic atmosphere. Taking place in the present day, Gasaraki involves the development of the world's first bipedal weapons systems (mechs, or TA's, as they're called in the series) and focuses primarily on the stories of two TA pilots on opposing sides of an explosive middle eastern conflict. Yushiro, the male lead, is very similar to Shinji is some ways, and has an odd gift of psychic powers that he does not understand, but his family, the powerful Gowas, hope to exploit. Miharu, the female protagonist, shares Yushiro's psychic abilities, and is VERY similar to Rei Ayenami. Some of the parallels between this series and Eva, in fact, may lead some Eva fans to shun Gasaraki as a ripoff. But it isn't. True that it has adopted some of Eva's more recognizable features, but the similarities end there. A must if you've been craving a more realistic sci-fi anime. Nate - Jul 20 2001 natesplash@yahoo.com Rating: Not all that good. If you think a desert is dry, then you haven't been marooned with GASARAKI yet! The story line and general concepts themselves are indeed interesting and the animation is very good, but the plot moves along at a snailish pace and the character development takes forever. Talk about watching a show in slow-mo, this one is lucky to move at 1/4 speed. There isn't nearly enough hard-core action for as painfully long as it is. Yushiro lacks personality as does his female counterpart Miharu and they both have very, very retarded looking "hair-dos". With all the sitting around on Base as Yushiro's "T A" team is being detained, many far more interesting things could have taken place – like some action! That particular detention scene lasted way, way, way too long. And how many times do we see characters just "staring off into space" saying nothing...not even the voice of an inner monologue of someone's thoughts. I mean come on - if they had eliminated all of those pointless scenes, GASARAKI would have been pretty good and more appropriately brief. But instead of adding some zest to an otherwise dead show, we decide to resend any hope of a resurrection here. Maybe some people enjoy eating their "pickled pig-snouts" while they watch white-paint dry...I don't enjoy either. I can think of far too many other anime's that have just as an intelligent plot as GASARAKI, but move along much better. An example of this would be "The Lain Serial Experiments"; that was far more interesting and moved along with 10 times more action and drama. GASARAKI is far too boring and sluggish. Don’t waste your time or money on this saltless snail. -Nate Kenshin Himura - Sep 16 2002 wingzero1234@hotmail.com Rating: This sucked! Horrible one of the worst animes ive ever seen only hardcore nerds will like this Jason Wagner - Nov 12 2003 animaster887@aol.com Rating: Pretty good! Pretty Good! A Good series. I suggest buying the entire series (the dvd box set is 54 dollars I think), you'll enjoy it much better that way since the story dose go very slow. The main character Yushirow isn't much of a character, but this anime is based on politics and realism. It has very realsitic technology, and battles, and politics. A good series overall and I suggest it to fans of Patlabor 2. |
