250 Essential Kanji for Everyday Use Volumes I and II are the cumulative work of six Japanese-language lecturers at the University of Tokyo. It is the result of years of experience and insight into what they see as a genuine need for a series of kanji workbooks that are practical and user-friendly.

Unfortunately, the kanji taught in most textbooks are not always those mostly commonly encountered in everyday situations. To fill this gap, a group of Japanese-language lecturers from the prestigious University of Tokyo have pooled their talents to create 250 Essential Kanji for Everyday Use, Volume II, a workbook that when used in tandem with Volume I teaches 500 kanji characters most frequently seen in daily life in Japan.

All entries include the readings, meanings, stroke orders, common compounds, and derivations of the kanji. Actual use of kanji is illustrated in sample materials, forms to fill out, and photos taken in public places in Japan, where the ability to read characters is indispensable. Quizzes and review exercises reinforce the lessons, making the text ideal for either classroom use or self-study.
