Dylan, Beka, and Trance head to a tropical planet in search of The Engine of Creation - an artifact believed to be older than the universe itself. Others have searched and failed, and their remains line the path. Legend says the Engine can be found by a group of three... but our three are not alone.

Alone in the Eureka Maru, Dylan gathers information about a newly formed black hole. Suddenly a loud explosion rocks the ship... and Dylan is gone. A moment later, he awakes in the arms of a beautiful woman - his wife. Their son bursts into the room. Is it reality, a dream... or a trap?

Ral Partheia, a planetary nature preserve, is under brutal assault by the Kalderans. While defending the planet, Dylan comes face to face with a strange, blue creature he thought he would never see again. It's a female Vedran from Dylan's home world... and she's bleeding.
