a must see for anime fans
HAHAHAHAHA....oh sorry i was just watching EXCEL SAGA for the one-hundreth time. I find this show to be mindless, idiotic, and one of the best movies i've ever seen. I laughed so hard i pissed myself (no not really). It makes fun of all the annoying cleches that anime have. Watch five minutes of the first episode and you shall be a die-hard fan. The theme song itself was funny and entertaining. The second episode drags, i admit, but then be prepared to start laughing as the third episode starts. The end theme song is funny. The show is funny. The voice overs are funny....EVERYTHING IS FUNNY!

ALL HAIL ACROSS!!!

well i guess you'll understand that last statement once you buy the anime...and you will buy the anime...ohh yes.....you will

Not for the new fans
Since it takes "pot shots" to other animes newer fans might not get many of the jokes, overall this is the craziest anime i've ever seen!!! think of it as the anime version of Freakazoid.

utterly mindless fun
Nothing Excel does has any real rhyme or reason. She acts purely on impulse and that is her problem. I don't know what drugs she is on, but she needs rehab...REALLY badly. The guy above was on point when he likened the show to Freakazoid. There is actually a scene in the first episode that is very similar to a Freakazoid episode (won't spoil it), but you'd have had to have been a Freakazoid fan to pick it up anyway. Whether you are or not, you should pick this disc up. It is ridiculous and a fresh change from even the best anime outh there.

One word can describe Excel Saga: HILARIOUS!!!!
I have never laughed more at anything in my life. I started laughing at the ENGLISH video piracy warning. Excel, as the box says, is the most certifiably insane teenager on the face of the planet. She does everything from annoy the living hell out of every person she meets including her boss at ACROSS (total membership: 3), kill her manga creator, beat the living daylights out of a friend, annoy the viewers with her hyper, high-pitched voice during the preview of the next episode, to getting killed in the first episode. The Great Will of the Macrochosm comes in handy to Excel, a lot. Ilpallazo, Excel's boss, looks like a mix of D (Vampire Hunter D)and Vicious (Cowboy Bebop). I don't know how he stands having Excel as a member! Hyatt, on the other hand, being the Martian princess that the super-cute aliens had on their ship when Excel shot it down, has a very, very, VERY laid-back attitude. She is the absolute opposite of Excel. Oh, we can't forget about Excel's dog/emergency food supply, Menchi (Minced meat). On to Nabeshin, the afro-sporting superhero. Shinichiro Watanabe is responsible for giving this character his name. (Japanese format of Shinichiro Watanabe is WataNABE SHINichiro.) This guy pops out of nowhere to leave you wondering "What in hell was that all about?" He comes in handy, sometimes, being very defensive...I'll leave it at that. All in all, Excel Saga is a hilarious anime that parodies almost every other thing on the face of the earth. You name it, it's parodied. Excel Saga is one anime that you need to get, no matter what your tastes are. You will laugh until one of three things happen: 1) the 5th episode ends, 2) You get to a serious part. (Yes, there are some!) or 3) you die from suffocation or from choking on popcorn or soda.

Stange, Hysterical, and VERY original!
How many animes have you seen where the creator of the show is a semi-recurring character? None, right? There is a reason for that. HE/SHE DOESN'T BELONG THERE! But Koshi Rikdo doesn't care. He is as sick & twisted as this show and that is why I love this show. It is utterly insane. I have a lot of favorite animes and most of them have: Insane fights with god-like characters Giant robots fighting monsters or other robots High school kids in weird situations Love-hate relationships between main characters Heavy violence amidst wild action scenes With the exception of the heavy violence, EXCEL SAGA has none of the above. It is so original I cannot describe it. You simply have to see for yourself.

i orderd the second devil hunter yohko dvd, it contained the complete first episode of excel saga and i was laughing well into the morning. it contained the crazy antics as Dragon half as well as the same type of idiotic main character who makes you remember why you got into anime in the first place

A haveta see anime... but not for newbies
Start with the consentrated insanity of Urusei Yatsura, add a few shots of the plot of Dragon Half, give it a splash of every anime clchie you've ever seen (And a few you haven't), shake, and top with the same satiric tone of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy and you have ONE episode of Excel Saga (the DVD just has more). If you liked any of the above, you'll love Excel. I do however recomend a few things. 1. Do NOT attempt to watch if you are eating something. 2. Watch once, then again with the popups and the pause button ready (there is a lot hidden in the DVD). 3. Make sure to see a good shrink if you too start going around town singing A-Ku-Ro-Su!!4. Hail Illapalazo!

Can't put it down! Must sing theme song!
It doesn't get better than this in comedic insanity!!! The voice actor for DragonHalf's Mink (English AND Japanese) does it again with the insanely insane Excel! You can't help but think "I want what she's taking...". Of course poor Menchi has to worry about certain death 24-7... Great English dub by ADVision! Flawless. there's something for ev'ry otaku in this one! *cries with laughter as she remembers the Leiji Matsumoto reference* Not for beginners tho' since there's hordes of anime allusions and cultural references. The pop-up feature is the best DVD extra ADVision's got! DON'T MISS EXCEL SAGA!Note: The extended version of the closing song is HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!

ROFL, Mihoshi On Acid (Its That Funny)
Holy crap, I couldn't stop laughing ever since Excel escapes death more times than Kenny. And the poor puppy that gets eaten probally almost on every episode (I only saw the first episode on the Devil Hunter Yoko DVD). But you have to be an otaku to get some of the puns.

It hurts in agood way.
Excel Saga was the first anime I watched after a long run of very dark, or dramtic shows, such as Boogiepop Phantom and Evangelion. SO when one sees the main character is run over by a truck in the first five minutes of the show, well, it gets you laughing, that's for damned sure.

Overall, the show is just plain psychotic. Characters are varied and quirky, scenarios are over the top and very humerous and overall, the show keeps you laughing and wanting more when its over. This thing paradies everything and makes fun of cliche's and pop cultural references left and right.

The disk itself also looks pretty. The colors are bright and clean, the audio is great and the voice acting in both English and Japanese are very well done (Excel does get a tad annoying in English to tell the truth and something aobut her ranting in Japanese is that much more funny.) I especially need to tip ahat to the guy who does Pedro in English and Illipallazzo in Enlgish also.

So if you want a good comedy anime' that ain't all sexual humor, Excel Saga is the way to go. Just be prepared for either reading a lot of subtitles or screaming:)

Uhh... what ?
This is a good anime and its really funny. I didn't understand what the heck was going on half the time but everything that happened in the so-called plot was pretty funny. Excel and Hyatt are a funny pair of agents and their mind-less attempt to complete their missions always seems to crack me up hilariously. The opening theme song is pretty catchy but makes no sense. The ending credits are funny hehe.. poor doggy... This a great comedy anime. A must watch for comedy anime fans. Note, this anime is weird and I coundnt understand a word Excel was saying...she talks so fast.. not like you need to know what she saying anyway..LoL. Buy this if you are a fan of mindless comedy anime and you like to laugh.

What? I haven't reviewed Excel Saga yet??
What the hell is wrong with me? Why do I keep singing A-CU-ROSS-A? Why do I try to pull full-sized machine guns out of my hair? And why do I try to say Mista Pedro like I was born in Cuba? Excel Saga, that's why!! As my fourth favorite anime ever, Excel Saga has enough coll stuff in it to fill up three standard DVD's. Watching this over and over is a neccessity. In fact, at least three times should be standard. 1. GOTTA check out the hyper-active English dub. 2. Watch the Japanese version. 3. And watch it in your favorite language along with the AD Vid-notes. The discs themselves also look very cool. So, go splurge $25 on the counter, have your mom drive you home, and then go watch the hilarious 'japanimation' (episode 17...yes, I know, that's DVD 4, not 1) that is Excel Saga.

-The Irresponsible Captain Tylor kid

Oh yeah, sorry Hansel. You've watched Freakazoid too, therefore you must have some at least decent anime judgement. Just chill on the Pilot Candidate, K.O.?

The funniest anime I've ever seen
This Anime makes fun of everything in anime & manga! Things from Mars called Puchuu that look like teddy bears crossed with Pokemon, an oragnization with only 2 people in it (currently), & more! You have got to see this anime- and it doesn't matter if you're not a humor junkie or an otaku like myself *smile*Believe me, you'll get lots of laughs outta this one even if you don't understand the otaku-oriented jokes. Check this one out!

Just Awesome. hilarious
This show was great! For Teens at least, since Excel does cuss sometimes. The beginning of the series is hilarious, the middile is good and funny, and the last part is more serious yet also making wilder jokes. The last episode is definately for a mature audience, it's not R rated but that entire episode pushes the envelope. Since I'm 27 y/o I LOVED it.

Jokes: 9.5 (almost everything about excel's life/environment is funny. the only hit against her is SHE'S SO DARN HYPER LOL) Vulgarity: 6 (she only gets truly vulgar maybe 3 times). a few stereotypes (latinos) Story: 8 disappears a few times, especially in middile of the series Originality: 10/5 the total package is a 10, but the show borrows from so many genres some people will call it a 5. Replay: 9 I'm still watching it looking for jokes i had not quite understood. Extras: 9 The ADV notes add a whole new perspective to watching the show Overall: 9(Classic. 10 is a masterpiece to me) A great series that'll have you watching over and over to see what little references u might have missed, and having a great time doing it. I loved it and am proud to have this series in my collection.

Leave your brain at the door
This has got to be about the stupidest anime I've ever seen, however, if you like stupid than this series is darn funny. Guilty, I like stupid.

Really Funny
I have the feeling that I would like this anime ALOT more, if I could understand what Excel was saying. She talks like a machine gun in a high pitched voice and sometimes I have to have the subtitles on. And at that pace, it kind of gets annoying after 10 minutes. If you can get past that, then go for it. Excel is INSANE and wonderfully hillarious.
