I loved it
I pre-ordered this before it came out. The release date was the 17th and I got it on the 7th,but I'm not complaining. AS for the DVD itself i thought the voice actors did a fairly decent job and it was a nice touch that they were able to gather most of the original voice actors from the original series, and you can tell their voice acting has gotten better over the time this show last aired.Overall I was very pleased.

Terrible English Voice Acting
Only Shinji and Misato are back as the original voices. The Japanese seiyu are back in full force. The US voice for Rei is beyond bad. Still, the graphics are excellent and the plot line is retained, condensed, and improved.

I,for one, was disappointed
This release was preceded by a tremendous amount of hype, so I expected it to be great. A friend who saw an advance showing at a convention e-mailed me and said it was "beautiful". But I, for one, don't get it. I didn't see anything exceptional about it. If you don't own the original Evangelion, buy these condensed versions because they are about the same as the originals. If you own the originals, buy these to complete your collection. But don't expect to be wowed; you will be disappointed. (And you will not be alone!) I was also disappointed in the way they brought it to market, bringing out the basic DVD and then waiting so long to release the Blue Ray and the Version with goodies. It simply isn't good enough to buy the Blue Ray if you already own the first release.

Super new animation!
Okay so once again here we go with Hideaki Anno's Neon Genesis Evangelion! This is the new Rebuild of Evangelion that Anno has created using his new Studio Khara. This is what he really intended to show the world back in 1995-1997 but was not able to because what he envisioned involved much more money, time, production value, and the ability to project his thoughts and feelings onto screen. You get to experience the journey of a boy who will find out what it means to be human but it seems that this new vision is more invested in the visual aspect. I am glad Anno got to do what he wanted but I prefer the original Evangelion, or at least so far since there are only 2 of new Rebuilds out. Prodution animation is wonderful and very clean. CG galore on this one though but at least most of it fits well with the rest of the art. get ready to not know whats going on though because this is different from the old Eva. The Japanese voices all almost all there again (Love how they can always do that), the English dub is okay as far as emotional delivery, some of the original voice actors are gone so its sad to hear a new Rei Ayanami in English sound less Rei (Come back Amanda Winn Lee!). But other than that you should definitley get the new Eva and be depressed, angry, happy, and lost all at the same time again!
