WHOA!
Based on the third novel in the "D" series, D is hired to go chasing after a cute couple (the guy's a vampire, while the other's a human girl), while competing with a relatively dangerous group of vampire hunters. Throw some mutant bodyguards, and a vampire ghost with a bone to pick with D (or his dad), and you've got a formula for one of the best movies of all time.

This movie is a cinematic masterpiece, combining action, romance, horror, and even comedy (D's hand still rules! ^_^). I'm still lost on why there's no Japanese dialogue. I know that it was first done in English, but they were adding a Japanese track for the tape release in Japan. Oh well, it's good enough for even a die-hard sub fan like me to forgive.

Stop reading this, and just see and judge for yourself.

Excellent!!!!
One the best anime movies that I've seen in a long time. D is back in his enigmatic, monotone, no-nonsense style; and it doesn't get any better than this. The original Vampire Hunter D is what got me started on anime many years ago and this movie definitely reminds why. Even if you missed the original you still gotta see this, you'll be glad you did. This one is sure become one of the classics that everyone should have in their anime collection.

Awesome
This was trully a awesome movie. I saw Vampire Hunter D (the original) only about a year or 2 ago... so i am not a true fan, but i loved the first one alot and as soon as i heard about this one i had to get it. it is REALLY good. although i wouldnt say it delivers the same power as the first one... and its not even really a sequel.. basically its just D put into a new story. it has alot of scenes and battles that remind me of castlevania games (which is good). i give it 4 and a half stars out of 5 stars/ it loses that half star because the ending is anti-climatic.... hopefully we wont have to wait another 16 years like b4 for a new chapter in D's adventures

Amazingly Awesome and yet Disappointing
This movie was awesome in it's visual display. The characters really started to resemble Amano-sensei's art style. The special effects in the animation left my mouth hanging. Everything was beautiful. The disappointment was the poor delivery of the voice actors... they were as deadpan with their acting as any English dubbed anime. There was no spirit in the voices (except for the talking hand... he had the best lines). Granted, the voices where originally done in English (as people love to boast) but I still think that a Japanese track would have been nice for those who like to watch Japanese style animation in Japanese. I was very disappointed to find out there was no Japanese track for this DVD. Still, if you want eye candy, watch this one for the awesome animation.

Not Just Eye Candy
Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was simply incredible. The boys from Mad House Animation are at it again with this amazing film. Everything from storyline to animation are in perfect balance. The voice acting matched the characters perfectly, so that's a strong for the U.S. voice actors. If you loved the first Vampire Hunter D(1985), then you'll enjoy this one all the same.

WHAT?!!!!!
I was totally upset by the fact that UV forgot to make it clear this DVD was DUBBED. NO WHERE on the packaging does it say so. Robbery. Plain and simple.

Vampire Hunter D Blood lust is AWESOME, its better than the first one and the action is awesome, and there is better characters. only thing bad about it is that his hand is old and stupid looking, but besides that this anime is awesome, go out and buy it!

Excellent Anime, but it does have one flaw...
Compared to the original D this title rocks. It is masterfully done and well animated, I do recommend it... However, I purchased the DVD and the only flaw was in the sound mixing. The music was often so strong that I could not hear the dialogue over it. This became extremely irritating durring a rain scene in the movie where all I could hear was the rain and none of the characters. Another problem was that there is no subtitles avaliable... so I was SOL on finding out what was being said in most of the movie. I had a friend buy it VHS and his copy was much better in the sound mixing, but it was still leaning heavy toward the music over the voices. -Bad Dubbing on a great DVD... >.<!

Very well done
While others might not agree with me I though the voice action was great! Pop this baby into a good sound system and this movie rocks. The animations was beautifully done and the story was incredible. I highly recommend this if you are a true Vampire Hunter fan.

Awesome animation! Okay story-line. Terrible audio reproduction!!!
Don't get me wrong, the animation in "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" is fantastic, some of the best I've ever seen in an anime. But, there were several problems with Urban Vision's (UV) re-production of this animated feature onto the DVD format:

1. Extreme, and I mean extreeeemely POOR audio re-prduction; the worst I've ever experienced on any DVD ever! Although the dubbing was done very well (as is usual), the background music & sound-FX were soooo over-powering, while the foreground sound/character's voices were soooo quiet, that I could barely discern what each of the characters were saying! Then, after you cranked up the volume on your TV so that you could understand what they were saying, then the music or some sound-effect would crop-up and blast your ears deaf - TERRIBLE! I had to use [CC] just to be able to follow the story plot! Also, no DVD menu options for audio - AT ALL!!!

2. No foreign language or subtitle options! Personally I HATE 'subs' and find the very sound of the Japanese language quit annoying, but it's a standard option on most every anime DVD; an option I sometimes like to play aroud with for kix or have to use (subtitling) when confronted with horrid sound quality. Come on UV, what's your deal?!

3. Finally, an un-interesting main menu with far too few options to justify the high ($26) price. No audio options such as: commentary, dolby surround or other languages. No video options such as: widescreen/full-screen, HDTV, interactive production carrot pop-ups or subtitles. No basic options like: production notes, detailed informational filmographies on each of the voice actors or DVD ROM features.

Back to the actual story, it was okay, but like a previous poster said, the ending was anti-climatic. The rest of the story was so-so, a bit cliche/old-hat kind of stuff. I preferred the story plot in the first Vampire Hunter D much better.

All in all, it's worth buying but not for the rediculous $26 price - not for what you're getting; or rather, not getting. A price half that much or even less would be more appropriate. You guys really dropped the 'quality' ball on this one UV - REALLY BAD!

VERY BAD SOUND
The actual voice acting in this was EXCELLENTLLY done and the animation was breath-taking, but the audio track was aweful! Unless you have a kick-a** home audio system (which most people don't have), this thing sounds like junk! You can hardly make out the dialogue due to all the super-loud back sounds and effects. Now I am of the school that you READ books and WATCH movies, that's why I can't stand subs, but be that as it may, they should still have that choice available for the die-hard subers none the less. This would've been a cool anime and is, but only if you can get past the garbage that they call a sound track. I can't and would think twice b4 buying it if I were you. =(

Great, dispite what people will say
This anime is great despite what anyone will say. Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust is a great anime despite the dubbing issue. But if your a new anime fan and just started watching anime, you'll think its the greatest thing since sliced bread. If you watch anime all the time like me and my girlfriend you'll love the graphics and the flow of the anime, besides the anti-climactic ending. And if you have surround sound, turn it up bc the sound effects are awesome. This is just a great anime with awesome graphics. I was not dissapointed in this anime. So I give you permission, go ahead buy it, rent it, or borrow it, whatever...

Was not dissapointed
I finally got around to watching this one recently and was impressed by how it was drawn. Beautiful animation and made for a fantastic addition to the Vampiric genre. I would have to agree with a somewhat anti-climatic ending and I wish we could have visited the Star City, but overall I liked what I saw. True at times the vocals were hard to distinguish, but I don't really have any complaints with this one. If your still uncertain about the buy, I would just say go for it, the visuals are worth it just in themselves, and I believe that this in a lot of ways was much better then the original D. It is like a whole new plot tale with no refrence to the first, so don't expect anykind of continuation off of the first. It's just D, doing what he does, capturing the heart of women, killing demons like its nobodies business, and always hot on the trail of his charge.

A masterpiece through and through
Every now and again you stumble across a film that is recognizable as a true classic: it has beautiful visuals, a compelling plot, excellent music, and great actors. "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust" is DEFINITELY one of those movies!

The characters are believable and endearing, thanks in large part to the excellent work done by the voice actors. Many (not all, but most) of the reviews above that were negative dripped with "sub-snobbery", the view that if it isn't in Japanese, it must stink. Let me tell you here and now that the "Bloodlust" dub actors put more than enough soul and skill into their performances to make up for the missing sub track. I can't speak for the audio quality of the DVD (the other major complaint) because I own it on VHS, but it apparently wasn't bad enough to make EVERYONE unhappy.

As for the story itself, I'd give it three thumbs up if I had that many. It's a take on the post-apocolyptic era like you've never seen it before, and is a worthy sequel in every way to the original "Vampire Hunter D" movie. The villian is a particularly interesting character... watch it to see what I mean.

In short, watch it, then buy it. End of story. Later, folks!
