A vicious battle rages at the burial place of Inuyasha and Sesshomaru's father. Their father, who was a great and powerful "demon dog," has left behind a very precious heirloom. This heirloom is Tetsusaiga, a very powerful sword which Inuyasha's father carved from his own fang to protect his human wife, Inuyasha's mother.

When Inuyasha and his friends come upon a village being tormented by a group of monkeys wreaking havoc in the fields, the villagers mistake him for a Dog God that can rid them of the nuisance. Inuyasha reluctantly agrees to help, but he soon discovers that the monkeys are actually a trio of sprites searching for their missing Monkey God. Placed under their spell, Inuyasha faces a bigger challenge than he bargained for...

Inuyasha is caught in a struggle with the Thunder Brothers, and Kagome's attempts to help him are going awry. Can Inuyasha triumph over the evil brothers when much of his attention is focused on Kagome? Later, when Kagome returns to her time, she discovers that the Shikon jewel shards are wrecking havoc not only in Japan's medieval past, but in the modern world as well.

When Inuyasha temporarily loses his powers, he must rely on his friends for help when they face a demon-in-sheep's-clothing who steals several shards of the Shikon jewel! Inuyasha's vulnerable state makes him more affectionate towards Kagome, as well. Back in Kaede's village, an evil witch defiles Lady Kikyo's grave and steals her ashes... but for what purpose? Fearing the worst, Inuyasha and the others set off to recover Kikyo's remains...

Inuyasha, Kagome, and Shippo cross paths with a devious, thieving young monk who has designs on Kagome's sacred jewel shards… and clues about what may have happened between Inuyasha and Kikyo 50 years ago! Later, a shard of the Shikon Jewel must be to blame in a town where paintings of demons are mysteriously coming to life to terrorize the villagers!
