kieran a. mcconnell - Apr 12 2002 otaku123@fsmail.net Rating: Wonderful! classic the anime thet made me the otaku i am today i saw urusei yatsura about 8 years ago and fell in love with the sheer maddness of it all the mix of different characters keeps the series from getting boering,like ranma,this is rumiko takahashis finest moment (maison ikkoku comes a close second)never got the following it deserves in the wesern world but give it a go you,ll be hooked and the song a really cool a mixture of zany jpop and pop ballads,a cult series that will always have a special plase in every otakus heart,top stuff. I spotted the title on the shelf in a video store on post back when I was serving in the U.S. Army. I dimly remembered reading about it in the TRSI catalogue (all praise the catalogue!!), and so I pulled out my last $35 (I was stationed overseas at the time, and we're going back to before DVD was big and when Anime was EXPENSIVE), forked it over, and bought volume 1. I fell in love almost instantly, and I know you will, too. U-Y is a frantic, hilarious tale of love and aliens and games of tag. It provides more fun in fifteen minutes than most anime provide in an entire series and, while you won't find high drama here, just about everything else an Otaku could want is provided. In excess. I don't think I could recomend anything more than Urusei Yatsura. Nothing really compares to it. From playing tag with the Oni to time bunnies and chariots pulled by giant pigs and demons riding vespas, there's just too much here to love, to much to laugh at, and too many characters worthy of taking into your heart. There's nothing better. |
