Anime is great.
The series is very nice and polished in this re-release. This is mostly for people who don't already own the first perfect collection, and for people who already have the first one, but want this one as well. The series is also beefed up with very nice English and Japanese 5.1 surround sound. Animation is cleaned and so is the sound. Although, theres not really any extras on the dvd. Theres only a few trailers from ADV films on the first dvd. So if u want extras get the perfect collection. If u want nice clean animation and sound, get this one. Or get both if you have alot of money.

Sit in the Evangelion and Tell Me Your Problems
I finally got a copy of Neon Genesis Evangelion and what a show it is. At first I thought I was watching a mecha but then the show turns into a psychoanalysis of the characters. I’ll admit I’m probably one of the only people watching this that felt bad for Shinji Ikari. He is whiny and depressed for a lot of the show but for some reason I just wanted to give him a hug, maybe because some of the other characters were just mean to him. Anyway, the rest of the characters are also very messed up but the series showed them trying to find themselves which was a welcome change from a giant mecha battle at the end of the show. The story and battles in the series were handle well, there were a few points where I had a hard time watching due to the tormented characters or bloody battles. The music in the show was pretty good and fit rather well with certain scenes. I only watched the show in English dub which was good overall. The only complaint I had was the animation is not the greatest and I found myself fast forwarding during the stills when the characters’ didn’t start talking or perform an action for a long time. So overall this was a interesting, thought provoking show that sticks with you long after the screen goes black.

Hideaki Anno's Masterpiece
This anime is a Freudian festival. It is a psychological anime, not just mecha and fan service. Video - Perfect. Audio - Perfect. Music - Perfect. This is one of the few anime where the American voice actors are as good as the Japanese seiyu...the translation and subs are very good. Now, there is one catch to Evangelion...if you only watch it once, you will be weirded out. If you see it five times, you will begin to understand what Anno is trying to do. No two people see this anime the same. The more you watch it, the more you understand...but, the ending is open for all sorts of interpretations. Nobody is neutral about NGE. You either love NGE or hate NGE. For this price? Just buy it and give yourself time to try to understand it. I say "try," because I don't even think Anno understands it.
