An oldie but a goodie - if you like Agatha Christie mysteries you'll like this!
This was one of those Anime we thought would not make it over from VHS. It is older Anime style but the story is excellent. The plot is a reverse twist of the Agatha Christie's Ten Little Indians (a.k.a.: "And Then There Were None") mystery story.

Hundreds of Candidates from throughout the Universe try out for the Space Academy. In doing so the last test for the Candidates that have made it thru all the other tests is to spend 30 days on a derelict space ship. They are going to dump 10 candidates off on this dark dead space ship and expect them to work together to get the ship systems up and running so they can survive for 30 days. Now remember that none of these people have ever met each other let alone work and live together. Plus they are all from different planets and different races.

Once aboard the ship they discover that there are 11 not 10 Candidates. It turns out that one extra has been planted to observe them and to cause problems (as if these people didn't have enough problems already).

Like I said the Anime is older style but the storyline makes up for it.

A great old school anime movie.
This story centers on a student trying to get in to the most prestigious space academy. During the final exam, where a group of ten are taken to an abandoned / damaged cruse line ship. To pass they must survive for a number of days aboard the ship. They can hit the panic button to call assistant but they will all fail. The surprise is they fine there are eleven students there. This story revolves around the challenges that face surviving the required as well as "11" valid students causing mistrust of each other as they have to work together.

This is a well told story that is driven by dialog with action where it's appropriate (not the other way around). The tension as of who is the mystery 11th person and all the odd things that aren't quite right make for a gripping tale.

Take it from me, the crazy fangirl
I can't tell you how much I love this movie. since my first viewing (around 1998 or so) I've watched it over a hundred times and it has still managed to stay as one of my top ten favorites! now if only I could scrounge up seventy dollars for the out of print manga...
