A Visual Masterpiece!
Visually stunning, with a complex plot, philosophical underpinnings, and an outstanding score. Highly recommended!

Good movie, horrible DVD
I really liked this movie at the theater but this DVD release is absolute trash. DO NOT BUY THIS!!! This disk does not have subtitles or dub, CLOSED CAPTIONING ONLY!!!!! The cover design is terrible as well. Very dissapointing and unwatchable.

An honest review.
If you have seen Ghost in the Shell 1, you already know how it ends and the implications it left behind. As the sequel begins, you'll notice that Motoko is no longer along side Batou and is in fact no longer among the human race. She is gone, but not erased. Just because Motoko is missing in action... it does'nt mean this film is pointless. The film is with out a doubt, the best looking anime film ever created and not just by a hair either. The animation is absolutely stunning, with 2D and 3D frames combined together beautifully. The story is complex, but if you honestly want to understand what's being presented to you, the movie is actually fairly self explainatory if you pay attention. The main characters, Batou and Togusa are cool and interesting and their relationship with one another shifts by the end of the film. Alot of ideas and concepts from the first movie are more fully explained in this film and some new ideas are added in as well. From beggining to end, Ghost in the Shell Innocence is a great film with interesting characters, well done action scenes, stunning visuals, and a great story to wrap it all up. the one and only problem I had with the movie was that throughout the film, the characters spout out historical and philisophical quotes at a record pace. I believe this aspect of the film could have been slightly cut down for the benefit of the viewer. Other than that, the movie is perfect and truly evokes the question of whether or not the material in the film will might actually be factual in the near future. I give Ghost in the Shell 2 a 9.5/10.

No English DUB??
Beautiful film that was spoiled by the lack of an English DUB. Amazing that a reputable company like Dreamworks released something like this.

It's 2005, Dreamworks... no excuse for a sub-only.

Otherwise, the film was excellent and one of Oshii-san's finest achievements. Visuals were amazing (when I had the chance to look at them) and like the first GitA movie, the plot was intense and you really HAVE to pay attention.

I give it 2 stars out of 5 due to the lack of an English dub... I would have enjoyed this amazing film SO MUCH MORE if I didn't spend so much time READING... (and what's with the subtitles? Did they just use the closed-captions?? Ugh... messed that up TOO!)

Why do people love this movie so much?
Seriously, why? We waited ten years for a sequel to GITS, and THIS is what we get??!! This horrible, and horribly boring excuse for an anime? It seems to me that people only love it because of the weight the name "Ghost In The Shell" carries. I've heard people talk about the "breath-taking visuals", the "wonderful plot", and so on. And I've heard people say that this movie is "not for dummies". Hate to break it to those of you who claim to love this movie, but...the "breathtaking visuals", were absolutely boring. They relied FAR too heavily on CGI, not that the CGI was anything special anyway, which makes it feel like you're watching a videogame. The "wonderful plot" isn't exactly made clear. As for it "not being for dummies"...well, when you compare this one to the original, they did dumb things down. Besides that, the sub-titles are horrible, and for more than the fact that they typed out the sound effects. Most of the sub-titles are unclear at best, and when the characters start their "philosophical" discussions, the sub-titles read like a drunken philosophy professor at a crappy community college trying to give a lecture. This didn't bother me as much as the fact that there was no english audio track, because I personally prefer the english voice actors that have worked on GITS over the japanese cast. It also didn't help that the characters were bland, that the over-all style of the movie was significantly different than the original, and that the personalities of the characters changed. If you can ignore all that, then, I suppose, you might get some enjoyment from this movie.

Ok, all that being said, it saddened and pained me to watch this movie. Why? Because there was so much potential laying under the surface, waiting to break free! This movie could have been as great as the original. There was quite a bit holding the potential of this movie back: the mediocre writing, the bland characters, the boring visuals, the scene was that was transplanted from A LIVE ACTION MOVIE (Avalon, directed by Mamoru Oshii, watch it and this movie and you'll know EXACTLY what scene I'm talking about). Not only that, but it struck me as being HEAVILY censored, which is always a minus if you ask me.

Not a fan of all the CG
This would have been better without being tied to Ghost in the Shell. I found it to be sub par and that it tagged on the Ghost in the Shell title to attract more attention. I was left dissapointed.
