Used to be my favorite until it got bumped
I've seen all of FY (yes, even that horrible Enishi thing they came out with) and I can definitely say that this is the best part of the story in my humble opinion. While the original series is great, at 50 some-odd episodes, it gets kinda long and drags out a bit too much for my tastes. The OVA is a nice length with an interesting story that really grips you.

The OVAs basically explain how Miaka and Tamahome meet up in Japan after the end of the regular series. If you remember, she leaves the Suzaku warriors, has a tearful parting from Tamahome, and returns to Japan with a renewed determination to pass her high school entrance exams. One day, she's going to meet up with her brother and he tells her about a new student who transferred into his college. The new guy had told him about how he dreamt of a girl from another world who gathered together 7 warriors to save a land from its worst threat. Then, she looks up and there's this guy who looks like Tamahome, wearing the wedding band they bought together.

The explanation is that Tamahome was sent to Japan but his memories were taken away and put into these jewels. One day, while Miaka and Taka (Tamahome's Japanese name) are visiting the grave of another preistess, Taka gets sucked back into the book. The OVA then goes on to explain how Taka and Miaka gets Taka's memories back, fights off the evil threatening Konan again, and ends up saving not just Konan but Japan as well.

Another great aspect about this set is that it has omake (outtakes), some of which are hilarious. There's one involving Miaka and Taka's kid that you have to watch after you watch the set - SO funny!

FY was my favorite for a long time but I've since been swayed by some really great anime. See Fruits Basket, Kare Kano (His and Her Circumstances), and Hana Yori Dango if you're into the romantic/comedic ones.

A pleasure to watch
Again, we dive back into the world of Konan and Universe of the Four Gods. The beginning, actually, is kind of strange. It takes a little bit before you actually get a really good handle on what's going on. Again, a few old characters come back, and new ones are introduced.

The character development continues as we get a look further into the pasts of some of them. The episode with Tasuki freaked me out somewhat, and the episode where we finally see Chichiri's past is my absolute favorite in the entire Fushigi Yuugi series, OVAs included. What can I say, I like Chichiri!!!

And again, a happy ending is managed. All in all, I found it a suitable follow-up to a great series.

Let down
The OAVs tried to keep up with the same emotion the series had but had much less time to do it in. It just didn't work. It ended up with almost a Sailor Moon feeling to it which I suppose almost makes sense considering Miaka's voice actress.
