Slayers Season 1 DVD Set (Hyb) Uncut
John Green - May 8 2007 Rating: Wonderful! Slayers Forever!!!! If you've been scouring ebay for the long out of print Slayers box set-here's your answer! I paid well over 65 bucks for used sets of Next and Try. This re-release is supposed to have better video quality than the originial release and the price is right! Lina Inverse rocks-as you might be able to tell I'm a big Slayers fan. I have all 3 of the original dvd sets put out by Central Park Media. This is truly a great thing for people who have not seen this show. Since the tv series was discontinued in production, it'll be a blessing to have this out. With ADV putting out the movies of this, it still works well. I just really hope that they have not recast this show. Lisa Ortiz and Eric Stuart were the perfect people to carry the lead roles and will always be Lina and Gourry. I strongly suggest people pick this up. There was talks of putting out a fourth season in Japan. Hopefully if this sells well, we'll be able to see it come back. David M. Gill - Aug 10 2007 CharUC0087 Rating: Wonderful! Slayers Again Finally Slayers Remastered is now shipping. This is a great opportunity for those who missed it the first time to pick it up. This was one of my first anime comedies that still remains one of my favorite series to this day. Lina Inverse is the best anime character ever IMO. This is the third DVD set I'll have bought of this season. The first is the CPM set with the sound defect. Then I exchanged the discs and got the corrected set (which actually had chapter stops, a main gripe of the previous Slayers sets). Here are some of the features of the new Funimation release: English dub (CPM's original dub, Lisa Ortiz rules) 5.1 surround (Last I heard) Japanese Stereo English Subtitles (Last I heard they weren't being retranslated but who knows until I see the final version) Remastered from the R2 masters (which maybe means that the eyecatches have been Re-inserted) All extras from the previous boxset plus new Textless openings and endings (Good a chance for me to use the footage for AMV's) Any fan of RPG's will love this series and It's irreverant nonsensical humor. Get this set or Lina will cast Dragonslave at you. Ogie Doggie - Mar 5 2009 ogiedoggie@aol.com Rating: Wonderful! SLAYERS ROCKS !!! Needless to say SLAYERS is a must see (all three seasons). What makes this so good is that the English dubbing is more OVER THE TOP than the original Japanese voice actors with Lisa Ortiz (the voice of Lina Inverse) leading the list of great English voices (everyone does such an outstanding job in this series). I think that this was the second Anime that Crispin Freeman did voice work on. If you haven't seen this series yet then get this new set (since the original is out of print which was put out by Central Park Media/Software Sculptors. This is a really great deal for the money plus it doesn't take up as much space on your shelf (this is one you WILL keep in your Anime collection). If you have the original box set put out by Central Park Media then hang onto it and don't buy this. Why you ask? Because once again Funimation cheaped out on us. They say it is the UNCUT version but I don't see anything UNCUT about it. Also it says DIGITALLY REMASTERED but when I compared the original to this new one I don't see any improvement at all in fact there are parts that get darker and it looses some detail (most people won't notice it but I did). There's no 5.1 surround sound either (another upgrade we were hoping for). The only thing that I did notice that Funimation did was to remove the SPECIAL FEATURES which in this case is no great lose since the special features weren't all that special in my opinion (instead of live interviews with the voice actors they just have text Q&A). So basically this is just a straight copy of the original release by Central Park Media with NO changes to the English voice actors as some have worried about.
