Requiem from the Darkness DVD 1 (Hyb): Turmoil of the Flesh + Artbox
Jake Kim - Sep 28 2004 AnimeCrazed@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! A very refreshingly new anime - unusual art style & storylines When I saw the trailer for this series on the Geneon website, I knew I was in for a feast of the eyes...and I was right! There is an incredibly different style of art employed that delivers a gritty, unnerving experience to the viewer, which is excatly what brings the spooky folklore and bloody violence to life. I haven't seen the original version in Japanese yet, but I do know that there are some seriously great performances in the English Language version that will definitely not disappoint those who have fallen in love with the original. Grant George rocks as the hero, Momosuke. He brings a sense of realism to the action, reactions and emotion, as opposed to cartoonish, that makes you suspend your disbelief and feel like you are along with him for each frightening adventure. Steve Kramer is also great as the devilish Mataichi. Plus, Ogin is pretty easy on the eyes and fiendish to boot. This is the first series in a long time where I'm holding my breath until the next volume comes out. If you want a taste of something different, dark and imaginative...Requiem delivers! |
