Lag almost breaks the record time on his Letter Bee test, securing a job as a Letter Bee! But his celebration ends with unwelcome news: the record holder, Gauche Suede, is no longer a Letter Bee! Shocked, Lag seeks out Gauche's little sister Sylvette to learn exactly what happened. But Sylvette has no answers, only memories and a broken heart. Gauche would never abandon his sister like that! Could it be he lost his heart... or his life?!

Lag, now a Letter Bee rookie, meets Dr. Thunderland Jr., a peculiar man who collects and catalogs the various Amberground species. When the doctor takes a particular interest in Steak, Lag and Niche have to hustle to keep him off the doctor's dissection table! The ensuing chaos pays off for Lag when the doctor reveals that Gauche - Lag's missing hero - paid the doctor a visit before he disappeared.

In the town of Honey Waters, Lag seeks out "the Man Who Could Not Become Spirit," who might have information on the missing Gauche Suede. Lag's disappointed to find out that he's a charlatan. However, the heart of this strange man in this strange little town yields a surprising clue. Lag might be closer than he ever imagined.

Lag finds his long-lost hero Gauche Suede - but Gauche's heart is so depleted that he has no memory of his former self, and he now goes by Noir the Marauder. Lag's only hope to recover the real Gauche is a special letter bullet that will convey Lag's heart to his friend. Lag's not sure how to go about writing the perfect letter, but his Letter Bee duties offer some good lessons in connecting hearts.

Lag has discovered that his long-lost hero Gauche Suede lost all of his heart, became tangled up in an anti-government organization called "Reverse," and is now known as "Marauder Noir." Noir's trail leads Lag and Niche to the icy northern town Blue Notes Blues. It just so happens Niche was born here. Lag and Niche uncover her mysterious origins: a sacred underground lake... where her brethren still dwell.

Lag arrives at the town of Lament determined to save the heart of his fallen hero, Gauche Suede. Gauche's rebel organization, Reverse, may be hiding out in the town's convent. To get in, Lag will have to use his wits, and he has no idea what - or who - awaits him there. Will this be Lag's chance to fire his Letter Bullet and restore Gauche's memories... or the end of his career as a Letter Bee?

Lag's hero, Gauche Suede, has returned to the Beehive - but not in the way Lag had hoped. While Gauche lies injured and unconscious, two mysterious government operatives show up to take him away, arousing the suspicions of the Beehive staff. For all Kyousuke's resistance to Tena and her bossy ways, he seems to have settled in quite nicely to being a sort of househusband to her and the other tuners. But while Mezzo and Sopra have agreed not to collect Kyousuke's viral notes, there's no telling what might happen if he meets yet another tuner! So when Kyousuke runs into Arun, an elite tuner at the top of her class, could this spell the end of his musical aspirations... and his life!?

As Kyousuke and Tena go about their contentious daily lives in Japan, they're blissfully ignorant that something's afoot at the tuner headquarters in France. And whatever it is, it's starting to make the world a much more dangerous place for Kyousuke with his sought-after soul score!

Under Arun's protection, Kyousuke, Tena, and company have made it to Nice to regroup. But just because they're taking a break doesn't mean tuner headquarters is slacking off on either its preparations for the mysterious "Grand Performance" or the retrieval of Kyousuke's very rare soul score!
