His and Her Circumstances (Kare Kano) DVD Box Set (Hyb)
Sharmilee L. Ramcharan - Oct 6 2003 Rating: Wonderful! a delicious treat of a series This series is absolutely fantastic! The characters are addictive, and the themes vary from ludicrous to serious. I wouldn't suggest this series for younger fans, though. It's about an over-achieving model high school student, Yukino, who meets someone just as brilliant as her at her new high school. For her, it's instant hatred, and she plots to best him so that everyone will admire her again...but he sees things just a little differently. Just to let you know, I'm a great fan of Vision of Escaflowne, and Kare Kano grabs you in a similar way. The subtitling is very well-done, too, and the music is fantastic. Treat yourself get the entire set in one shot! Kira Paradin - Nov 20 2003 kira@curseoftime,com Rating: Not all that good. What a thorough disappointment The series started off well. The characters and animation were very well done, though I would have to say that there could have been more diversity in character design. I liked the story's progression and the physological themes incorporated into it. But then I got to the last disc of the set. I was just blown away at the poor quality. Most of the series revolves around recaps, so many that it is ridiculous. But the last disc seemed to be little more than a glorified recap with very little new material. The last episode did not conclude the series well, as it does not address any of the questions brought forth in the series. The animation was severely skimped on, there was no conclusion and the whole atmosphere was that of Evangelion. There was simple no progression of story line. The story pulls you in and then lets you down. Definately and sadly not worth the money. And I had expected so much more from the famous Captain Tyler company. Ryan Tomlinson - Dec 16 2003 hatebreeder28@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! Excellent in all aspects, but theres no conclusion! This series had an excellent character development. THe comedic relief was an unexpected surprise at times, but always welcomed. What really erked me was that this series didn't end. Tonomi and sakura didn't even get half way through the amount of story they should have been alotted, and I don't think I need to mention anything about yukinon or arima. This series was made in 1998, did they make more episodes? Colt J. McMurry - Jan 7 2004 Rating: Wonderful! I love these shows they tell the true meaning of love!!! I love this it is great and gives a new look on things. Dan Stevens - Jan 12 2004 enami_aido@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! Amazing piece of work I hear from many people that this series was good, so I bought it. In the past, I have never doubted any purchase of anime, and this didnt let me down either. Starts out with a strong story, very comical, very serious at times. It got to me that the characters are pretty well made, they all have their own reasons, big or small on why they act the way they do. The characters, I was able to identify them all with my friends, and that was a brief shock and amazement. The body of the story is great, Yukino Miyazawa, the perfect student, one of many Janus' of the story. I also hear that people kind of slam the series because of the conclusion. How nothing is really resolved. Just look at it more, what more can Yukino and Souichiro do? The story moved from those two, to Tsubaki and Takefumi. So the series would start itself all over again with Tsubaki and Takefumi's little show. Kim Uy - Jan 14 2004 Rating: Pretty good! It's all laugh... It's funny and good... until I watched volume 5. It was a disappointment, leaving me to ponder if there's a lost episode to conclude this anime better. Eugene L. Bonilla Jr - Jan 23 2004 Rating: Pretty good! It was good until the end of the disk I really enjoyed the series until the las disk. It really zoomed through a lot of the material on the last part. The summary of all the characters was not completely summed up in one way or another. I just wished they would have put out at least one more disk to finish it up properly. Annie Anime-Fan - Feb 7 2004 Rating: Wonderful! Amour toujours amour! Ah, love. What can I say about it that hasn't already been said? Kare Kano is that rare anime that incorporates the blend of comedy and drama that infuses love in all its many aspects. The story is of Yukino Miyazawa, a "perfect" girl who loved being admired and respected by her peers. Until Souchiro Arima arrived on the scene, she was the undisputed head of her high school. With Arima's arrival however, Yukino discovers that being perfect isn't the be-all-end-all of life and that sometimes, love creeps up on you in the most unexpected of ways. Kare Kano is a great blend of comedy and drama. One minute you're laughing your ass off as Yukino goes super-deformed and chases after a girl who burned her picture, and in the blink of an eye, you're almost in tears as you learn how Arima was treated by his family. My only gripes with the series is (1) there are a ton of recap episodes as well as recap intros to many of the episodes and (2) there's no real ending to the series. As to #1, I can't really get too angry about it since the recaps are done pretty interestingly for the most part. As for the ending, I hope that they are making a 2nd set out there in Japan but I hear the manga finishes off the story past where the anime ends. If you end up liking this one, try Fruits Basket (my all time favorite, even though Kare Kano is up there too) and Hana Yori Dango (the animation sucks but the story is excellent). Alyster A. Brent - Apr 14 2004 Rating: Wonderful! wonderful story, but case? The story is the best in the world! It's my favorite anime, but when I first saw it,it was with my friend that ordered it from hong kong way before it was in the USA. The origional case was beautiful! So creative and I loved it, and it was only on 3 discs. But this box set, is just ugly. Why couldn't you of kept the origional casing? Rachelle Duncan - Sep 15 2005 lady_knightr@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! OH MY GOD!!! IT WAS FREAKING AWESOME!!! ^_^ This anime was great. It is such a sweet tale about two high school students in love. Sure it sounds so dull decribing it but it is one great romantic comedy. You have to see it yourself. Yukino is so funny. Jonathan Marquez - Oct 12 2005 Rating: Pretty good! Great show but the last cd drags. no closure This is a great show, really romantic and funny too. I really enjoyed this show... BUT They just totally ruined the pace in the last cd, and there were FAR too many recaps, this show set my personal record for fast-forwards in a first viewing. The amount of recaps was just unbearable for me. Unfortunately, in between the recaps would be some new material, so I found myself rewinding just as much, to make sure I didnt miss anything. While I really liked the last episode, there's no closure in it. Maybe the manga goes farther out? I hope so, because it's a great story! amono of Waterdeep - Oct 28 2005 amono@yhti.net Rating: Wonderful! An indepth look into the struggles of Love and trying to be your self. This is one of Anno's greatest works. In my opinion even better then Eva. In Anno's famous style you get to look into the thoughts of two people as they go through hardships, fall in love, and learn to be themselves. It's a psychological comedy (if there is such a thing). It's a love story that cn be enjoyed on it's own merit or looked into for deeper meaning. Not for the younger of anime fans, His and Hers has a lot of symbolism (Stop lights, Street signs, and other visuals) that pop up into the story that seem at odd times. Don't be fooled into thinking,"That was a useless scene. It's Anno's way of hinting at what is going on in the story. By the end of the series there are a couple of episodes that take on a real "art film" approach to the animations and just like, The End of Evangelian, everything comes round full cirlce. If David Lynch were to make a Romantic Comedy, it would be something Like His and Hers Circumstances. William R. Henry - Nov 10 2005 Rating: Wonderful! Gainax masterpiece well presented by Rightstuf. This series is a beautifully crafted investigation of human frailty. Hideaki Anno has matured as a director and story-teller, and it shows in this series. He can now shine his spotlight of criticism upon the human condition softly, without shocking us or beating us over the head. Nevertheless, Anno's work seems to leave us uncomfortable and with a void that we want filled. Observe all of the complaints that this series was "unfinished" or lacked "conclusion". If you thought that this was a simple romance story about Yukino and Arima, then you missed Anno's point. So Anno's conclusion makes us feel restless and unfulfilled. . .that is not necessarily a fault with this series. Perhaps we are blaming the messenger for the message? Anyway, watch this series as a simple romance story. . .just don't complain that the last couple episodes suck. You could also deeply analyze this show and revel in your understanding of the poignant brilliance of those last couple episodes. Either way, this series is a masterpiece, with the US release being even better than the Japanese one. Buy it and enjoy it. There are few other series out there that can compare. |
