A great all-around feel good movie I've read a few reviews on this anime and some have said they thought the resolution to the movie seemed a little pat and the main character a little too easy-going. Though I see some of their point, I think this is only to the anime's benefit. The environment and world shown in this anime is rich and extremely well animated and I found myself liking the main characters thoroughly. The difference between good and evil is not clearly defined and the anime does well showing different viewpoints and characters. I also really enjoyed the Japenese voice acting for the "bad" guy, whose voice was low and raspy, yet calm and dignified. It was definitely not a typical leading male Japenese voice, and I found myself both pleasantly surprised and drawn in. I really enjoyed this film and would recommend it to anyone, whether a die-hard anime fan or the newly initiated. J Green - Apr 13 2007 Rating: Pretty good! Good-but not great. The visuals in this movie are stunning, problem is that the characters aren't that interesting. I tried to get involved but in the end I really didn't care one way or the other about them. The story was ok-but it borrowed a lot from other movies-say Nausica and The Valley of the Wind. I really enjoyed the fresh crisp animation in callaboration with the computer animated special effects. I recommend this movie to anyone. It's a fantasy about nature and mankind in manifestation together. The forest actually comes to life, it was wonderful and well thought out. |
