RahXephon Complete Collection DVD (Hyb) (Thinpak) Reviews of this title:
jonathan marquez - Oct 11 2005 Rating: Pretty good! Pretty good, some similarity issues. Pros: good graphics, likeable characters
Cons: Evangelion similarities, plot was a little slow
This show is pretty good, but having seen neon-genesis evangelion, I have to say that Rah Xephon is far too similar for my liking. There were at least three parts in the story where I was saying "I've seen this in evangelion", as in deja vu. The main gist and plot of the story is also eerily similar.
That being said, the main character in Rah Xephon is FAR more likeable than Shinji from eva, and there was a lot less psychobabble, cleaner graphics, slightly more relateable characters, and less angst. If Evangelion had ended with it's original ending, I would say Rah Xephon is better, but with eva's alternate ending it has the edge in my opinion.
One more thing: RahXephon has no real fanservice where Evangelion almost went overboard.
Get Evangelion or RahXephon but dont get both. RahXephon is pretty good! Ephedrine HCl - Jun 16 2006 Rating: Pretty good! If you liked Neon Genesis Evangelion and/or Gasaraki you'd like this Yes, this is very very similiar to Neon Genesis Evangelion. But being very similiar to what many consider the best anime series of all time is a good thing, isn't it?
In some ways RahXephon improves on Evangelion, such as animation quality and coherency, but in others it falls a bit, such as emotional attachment to the characters, and in still others it makes the same mistakes.
Any way you slice it though, RahXephon is a really good series that I highly recommend.
If you enjoy it, please keep a look out for the "theatrical movie" version which is a complete re-telling of the series but with a slightly altered plot! Not as good as the series, but certainly a great "icing on the cake" so to speak. |
