Perfectly remastered!
I just want to say that this double DVD set is well worth your time and money. Completely remastered, you have the option of watching it in Japanese, English with Japanese music, or English with US stereo sound. The narrator was kind of hard to hear over the music during the beginning of History of Trunks, but other than that everything sounded great. The Japanese music was pretty cheesy as Japanese music goes (other than the awesome opening theme)and didn't really set the mood of the feature, so unless your a die-hard, I would suggest watching it in US stereo. After years of watching on VHS, you can truly see the quality of the animation after the restoration.

English Voices/Japanese Music...WORTH EVERY PENNY
The remastering process definitley shines through here and makes DRAGON BALL Z look better than it ever has. But the best feature here is the option to hear the original Japanese music alongside the English voices. I mean this with all due respect to the mixers and artists involved with the English dub music, as it managed to be good enough...but only just. I also mean this with all due respect to the original Japanese voice cast of DBZ, as they are talented actors, but even with subtitles there is a degree of disconnectedness when hearing the Japanese voices, as it's not my native language. Furthermore, I have a hard time adapting to hearing a woman be the voice actor for Adult Goku and Adult Gohan (as it is in the Japanese version).

Finally, with this release, I can have the best of both worlds. The Japanese music (and, for that matter, the occasional prolonged moments of silence on the Japanese music track) adds much greater emotional depth to these features, mostly because instead of using rock or techno music, it is composed of an entirely orchestral score. In many ways, watching this was almost like I was watching them for the first time again. There's something undeniably cool about hearing Kyle Hebert's ending narration in English immediatley followed by "Green Wind of Hope" by Hironobu Kageyama in Japanese.

I greatly enjoyed this release, as it was worth every penny and then some. If you have seen it before, buy it anyway, because you most likely haven't heard the Japanese Music/English Voices combo that makes this almost like watching a different, somewhat more emotionally mature show. I for one greatly hope that FUNimation continues to release DRAGON BALL Z features with the Japanese Music/English Voices combo.
