Rune Soldier 1 DVD (Hyb): Enter the Klutz
Handel S. Williams - Sep 27 2003 Prodigal22@aol.com Rating: Wonderful! If you like comedy in your anime, look no further! This anime features some of the most idiotic characters I have seen since Excel Saga. This is a good thing if you like comedy. If you don't, why would you even be reading a review about a show called"Louie The Rune Soldier" (the full title) with a volume titled "Enter the Klutz?" Louie is not a smart man, but he is a strong man, and a brave one to boot. These attributes are not entirely appreciated by his three cohorts. Maybe this is because they are all brave and already have a strong-woman on their team. Stupidness ensues. This show is a laugh-a-minute. Pick it up and enjoy! P.S. reverse the cover, the outer cover is way too serious for this show. C B. O - Dec 5 2003 OgieDoggie@aol.com Rating: Pretty good! If you like Slayrers then you should REALLY like this!! The best way to describe this series is if you took Gourry (mercenary swordsman from Slayers and Lina's sidekick)and made him the main character- Pretty scary thought?. But then added 100 bouns points to everyones personality and you get Louie the Rune Soldier (and gang). I am on Volume #5 now and the series is still going strong. Good storyline and great characters. I highly recommend that you give this a try!! Ghaleon K. Yoshiki - Apr 13 2004 Ghaleon2003@aol.com Rating: Wonderful! after you watch this you'll keep saying "LUIE PUNCH!!" wall they said it just read above. if you wont my opinion, i give it a 10 out of 10. Jesse Hausler - Dec 2 2005 Rating: Pretty good! If "Saiyuki" was designed for guys... Like I said in the summary line, this show reminds me a WHOLE lot of my girlfriend's favorite series, "Saiyuki". Both shows have lots of gorgeous animation, bright colors, and feature a mono-gender group as the stars (although it didn't stay this way for long in "Rune Soldier"). They also suffer from several of the same flaws: much of the dialouge is just one character repeating what the last character said, and some of the characters seem kind of one-dimensional. Louie is the star, and with good reason. Not only is he the most memorable character, but he is also the ultimate comedy relief. To say that he can be hilarious would be an understatement. The women who travel with him, however, generally act like man-hating, whiny, evil witches (I'd rather use another word, but I have to keep this review G-rated). They claim to be the best there is, but all they do is fart around while Louie gets things done, then chew him out when they don't like the result. Their awful behavior is my biggest beef with this show by far. Still, they aren't all bad. Merrill in particular is a funny little spitfire, and Genie is all right (although a little one-dimensional so far). Melissa sucks; if I hear the words "This is against my will!" one more time, someone is going to get hurt. Fortunately, Ayla (Louie's semi-girlfriend) provides an example of a cute, smart, non-b****y female role. Maybe Merrill, Genie, and Melissa will learn by example... Overall, I really enjoyed the first volume of "Rune Soldier". The antics of Louie and the girls are often hilarious, the animation is just plain beautiful, and the basic plot is entertaining. There's still time to improve in regard to character development, and MAYBE the girls will stop calling poor Louie a "brainless moron/pervert/idiot" after he saves their rears for the umpteenth time. Final word: A good show that's not quite living up to its potential... yet. |
