Battle Athletes Victory DVD 1 (Hyb): Training
Marc A. H. - Jun 25 2001 Rating: Wonderful! Simply entertaining, funny, delightful and involving I did not think of much of this anime when I was first asked to watch it. The title brought about images of "American Gladiator"-type 'athletes' rather than the track and field variety. That was not something that I believed could be turned into a good and addictive feature. However, from the first time I heard the opening credits song, I was hooked. The song is amazingly catchy and tempts me to sing along with it most of the time. The first episode does the job of introducing the major characters quite nicely and seamlessly, integrating it directly into the action. You sort of feel an affinity to each and every one of them for reasons their own. Hillariously entertaining, it mixes in just the right amount of drama and humor. The storyline is full of twists but is at the same time fairly predictable at certain points. When I reached the final episode, there was a feeling of sadness that it was over. Great Series - please read my review If you liked Princes Nine (girls high school baseball) you will REALLY enjoy this: I would like everyone first to understand that there are 2 (two) BATTLE ATHLETES series out there and they both have the same basic plot which is: where the elite teenage girls from around the solar system come to hone their athletic prowess with technologically enhanced training facilities and the renowned coaching staff. For many, the grueling, full contact competition against humanity's strongest and most ambitious athletes is the beginning of a dream to become the next Battle Athletes Competition winner, and the most famous of all sports champions. The First BATTLE ATHLETES series is made up of 3 DVD's called 1-On Your Mark,2-Ready..Get Set,3-Go! - The Second series which is put out by the same company is made up of 8 DVD's and is called BATTLE ATHLETES VICTORY series. So what is the differnce you ask? (other than 5 DVD's). They both use most of the same characters but the attitudes of the characters are different between the series. And so - BATTLE ATHLETES (1-On Your Mark,2-Ready..Get Set,3-Go!) has everyone being very serious and very sure of themselves. Although they use the same characters at least 80% of the animation is newly done not just recycled from the 8 DVD series so you really are seeing something different. Plus there are men training here too! Where as BATTLE ATHLETES VICTORY series (all teenage girls) alot of the characters are still trying to build up their confidence and abilities plus there is alot of comic relief in this series along with a surprise ending that you would never expect. Can't figure out which one to get - well you are in luck because RightStuf is now selling both sets together - Battle Athletes and Victory DVD Bundle (1-3, 1-8) (Hyb). My favorite by the way is BATTLE ATHLETES VICOTRY series - they really take a stab at China in this one. |
