 Based on the novel Fortress in the Rice by Benjamin Appel, Cry of Battle is a war movie starring James MacArthur as Dave, a young son of a wealthy businessman, who is thrown into war in the Philippines. Another soldier, Joe, played by Van Heflin, is the complete opposite of Dave. He is experienced, brutal and vulgar. In order to survive the dangers of war Dave must take lessons from a veteran like Joe. But the rivalry heats up when both men fall in love with Sisal, played by Rita Moreno.
