The live-action commercial alone is worth the cost of the DVD - if you've seen the hokey but very long-running real commercial of which it is a send-up. You can enjoy this without knowing all the cultural references; it stands on its own. (And a lot of those references will be familiar to those who watch anime.) In context it's great. Given that I was tired from work, maybe that's why I fell asleep on the movie. I couldn't quite see the humor in the movie, although the commercial was indeed funny. I expected the movie to be very funny, although that was the impression I was under. Oh well, I'll watch it again. Maybe I'll see it in a different light. For those who are spoiled by the recent dazzle seen in other anime, be warned that this movie is actually old. ...Again, this movie was okay, but nothing that would have me ROFL. Gary M. Caponigro - Feb 21 2004 Rating: Wonderful! funny, but lacks that special something This is moderately funny show... very funny moments spaced between "get to know and love the character" moments. It ends up being almost as touching as it is funny, probably more so. It's an all-around good show, but it lacks whatever that special something is that makes a show amazing. |
