Tactics DVD 5 (Hyb) Reviews of this title:
Doug Kendrick - Jan 26 2008 Rating: Wonderful! Finally an Ending to this Underrated Series! I was so happy to finally receive the final disc in this wonderful series today (Jan 26, 2008)—after pre-ordering it from Right Stuf in August 2006! Though it seems to have been temporarily lost in "Anime release limbo", I'm grateful that Manga Entertainment persevered and brought closure even if it was nearly a year after Volume 4's release..
I think this series has been woefully underrated and overlooked. The animation by Studio Deen is absolutely, glowingly gorgeous and the story—while brief and at times a bit light on substance—surprises with a fascinating overall storyline and some downright moving and thought-provoking episodes. The English voice acting cast is a veritable who's who of actors and actresses and the performances are top-notch.
This final disc containing five episodes provides a completely surprising and very touching ending. Sometimes short series like this can frustrate (because you want them to go on or because they don't feel like they were brought to an adequate conclusion), but I didn't feel that way. Sure, I wish there were more, but I felt like there was enough closure.
If you want to watch an anime that is told very gently and beautifully, that can make you think and wonder, and is filled with Meiji-era Japanese cultural flavor, then I would whole-heartedly recommend Tactics. Gem-like series like this deserve fan support so that they will continue to be brought to us in the English-speaking world. |
