Getting Along in Japanese DVD 5: Going Out to Eat (D) LiveAction

Getting Along in Japanese is a DVD video learning series which presents the Japanese language through familiar daily situations. The setting is a traditional Japanese inn where the hosts teach their guests to communicate using practical and current expressions.

Hosts Katsuya Kobayashi and Kaori Itakura introduce spoken Japanese through carefully dramatized skits designed to help beginning students learn to cope with everyday life in modern Japan.

Episode Five presents vocabulary and expressions for yet another of the essentials; how to order what you want in a Japanese restaurant. Viewers are taken to a restaurant and taught the basic patterns for ordering, along with vocabulary for politely declining something you prefer not to eat or drink.

Mr. Kobayashi explains and suggests variations and other uses of the language patterns introduced in the skit. After a practice session in which students are drilled and taught new words, Kaori takes us to an "izakaya" style Japanese pub, where she shows photos of some of the amenities and food displays seen at restaurants in Japan.

Each DVD can be viewed straight through or in separate chapters, allowing access to individual segments for helpful repetition and easy learning.
