Excellent edition to the Evangelion collection
The first remake Evangelion movie (1.11) was an awesome experience that really showcased what made the original series so great. There were some slight differences in it, but that's to be expected because it is considered more of an alternate retelling rather than an refresh of the story. With Eva 2.22, however, the story instantly becomes something completely original within the first few seconds of the feature.
Asuka is back! But this time with a new last name and a less sociable personality. Rei, on the other hand, is given a personality that resembles an actual human's! Many of the details that were left somewhat vague in the series are brought into a brighter light here, such as Nerv's purpose, the goals of Seele, the cause of the second impact, and a lot of the characters' more deeper emotions and ideas.
For those new to Evangelion, this movie is very entertaining. However, it probably wont make much sense without watching the first movie (1.11).
All in all, this is an excellent movie and I was right to anticipate it all this time.

feels familiar, but . . .
Wow. Good stuff. Always cool to see Gainax working with a real budget. Everything looks incredible.
If you've seen all the previous versions of Eva, this will all feel very familiar. We're back in Hideaki Anno's twisted psyche, but there's plenty of differences to keep you from getting bored. New mecha. New pilots. New human side to Rei.
That was my big quibble with these movies. Brina Palencia plays Rei as much more human, but then I realized. She is written as being much more human and even warm. Shocker.
I still love the original series, and the director's cut, and the platinum edition, and "Death and Rebirth", and "The End of Evangelion", and the manga, and the other mangas, but this is definitely a worthy addition to the Evangelion cannon.

Animation & Asuka!
2.22! Its part 2 now! Asuka is back and full of Id as ever. You get to see Evangelion go into a different place on this one. So many new things, people, and CG! Once again the dubbing is okay and the animation is great and clean. I also noticed that some of the old music has been re-done in a more classical mood and installed into the new Rebuild from the begining, also wanted to note something I forgot to metion on my 1.0 review, Utada Hikaru did the ending theme and it is Amazing!!! Her new song is awesome and it seems that it makes its appearance (audibly) once again here. So get part 2 (2.22) and continue the journey.
