When Gon learns his father Ging is a famous Hunter, he aspires to follow in his footsteps and track down monsters and treasures. But first, he has to pass the arduous and dangerous Hunter test. The adventure begins when the would-be hunters run through a forest filled with dangerous animals – and even more dangerous rivals. Test-taker Hisoka is killing off the competition!

Gon's mighty adventure in search of his father continues, and this time he is forced to pawn his own Hunter license to raise some cash. Gon and his posse chance upon a silent auction bazaar along the way and meet a stranger named Zepile, who introduces them to the seedy world of rare item appraisal. But the real trickery likes in Nobunaga's effort to recruit Gon to join the troupe!

Killua, Gon, Leorio and Kurapika are finally reunited. Kurapika tells the gang that he made a Nen covenant to strengthen his ability by setting limits on it - all for the bargain price of his death if he ever uses Chain Jail against anyone who's not a Spider.

The Spiders unravel the clues that will bring them ever closer to Kurapika's identity. Meanwhile, Kurapika's desire for revenge is rekindled when he learns that the Spiders are still alive. And though the bounty on the Spiders has been withdrawn, Gon persuades Killua to help Kurapika awhile longer, if only to bring the cycle of killing to an end.
