Robotech....To The Rescuuuuueeee
Aren't bonuses wonderful? You get a nifty little collection of Robotech toy commercials, wherein you get to see a bunch of seven-year-olds bellow out "Oh yeah, you alien bastards? Rick Hunter's gonna bring home 8,000 lbs. of Zentradi meat!!" while violently shaking their Valkyrie toys and making pretend explosion sounds with their lips. The Girl's line commercials were absolutely hilarious, where we see Rick Hunter...well, we'll leave that one to your perverted imaginations. The public access interview with Carl Maceck was well worth the price of the DVD, although he made no mention of the Robotech saga being comprised of three separate Japanese TV shows. And I wasn't aware that there was ever a "Robotech: The Movie" in existence.

The plot thickens...
There is a certain pacing to the whole adventure. I wouldn't say it's slow, but it's not fast. It's a fairly well thought-out story, but unlike some series, people die! It's in this particular box set that we lost two main characters, which I do remember back from the day... But I thought it happened a lot sooner. And unlike comic books, they don't come back (well, except in memory).

I do have to say this. Robotech has 3 parts to it. The next set of adventures contain the ones with Dana Hunter and instead of Valkyries, they use tanks (bleh). The third part really dives into what Robotech is all about, something barely mentioned in the first series. Protoculture is casually mentioned, but that is what the Zentradi are really after. As well, you get introduced to the masters of the Zentradi who are 10 times as worse as Bretai and all them.

I admit, you do begin to wonder around, oh, episode 20 or so just how much more they can fit in! And one thing I never noticed was the anti-war sentiments. They tried to make it into a not-so-senseless violent adventure, blame it on the bad guys for our reactions! I can't wait for the next set to see where it goes...
