Blood: The Last Vampire DVD (Hyb)
Matthew B. Craig - Sep 2 2001 MattMatt99@aol.cpm Rating: Wonderful! A most see for a true anime fan. Like I said a most see, this is one of the best anime titles I have ever seen and believe me I have seen a lot. If you liked Vampire Hunter D and Bio Hunter then you will love this. But like every review I have to say what was wrong with the movie and it was that it was only 45 minutes long other than that this is a most see Eric T. Thorndike - Dec 15 2001 eskimoarmyman@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! This ROCKS!...wait, thats it? I am blown away. Just...blown away. Great animation, tons of violence, many scenes with prerendered backgrounds and objects, a 100 year old chick that hacks the hell out of deamons with this huge-ass katana (or a shovel, or glass shard or a bent piece of scrap metal), you want it, THIS ANIME HAS IT! I mean, just the opening battle had me off of my couch and yelling for more! Oh, and here's a new one- an anime dubbed in both Japanese AND English?! With NEXT TO PERFECT LIP SYNCH?!?! Wait, someone pinch me... or better yet, lets watch it again! I mean its only 45 minutes!...........wait, did you just say 45 minutes? Wheres the rest? Shouldn't there be more? Youve got this awsome story line going and your just gunna end it? I must have been jipped....... Oh well. What is here is kick-ass enough. I guess I dont have to write that letter of complaint... Dan Z - Dec 16 2001 Rating: Pretty good! a generally well crafted and interesting show For being only 45 minutes, there's a suprising amount to say about Blood. First, this DVD does NOT have a "japanese with english subtitles" option. It's literally a hybrid of english dubbing and japanese with subtitles. This confused the heck out of me for about 15 minutes. About that time I figured out that it's part of the show. If the character's american, they're speaking english. If they're japanese, they're speaking japanese. Really kind of interesting I think. And generally done well. There are a few occations where the english dubbing is little sub par, but over all it's not as bad as it could be. Second, the animation itself was also very interesting. Again, it's a hybrid. Partially standard 2-D pencil techniques, and partially 3-D CG imaging. Normally, I think that sort of thing looks like hell, but the 3-D is mostly kept to the backgrounds and is actually some of the best quality I've seen. Occationally, the 2 styles will collide and look a little odd, but for the most part it works well. Third, while the story is short and a bit jumpy, it does hold up well as a quick one shot action flik. Cool action scenes, some neat effects, occational gouts of blood. Can't really argue with that. Additionally, the DVD comes with a "making of" documentary which seemed almost as long as the show itself. This I found almost as interesting as the show in an educational sort of way. Overall, I'd call it a very well planned and crafted anime. Dillon v. Barton - Feb 2 2002 moviemasterdb@hotmail.com Rating: Wonderful! The best short anime so far. I like this anime by far.The only better anime movie is knockin on heavens door. The digital effects are so good.I only saw about 36 miniutes of it(i downloaded it heh)But it is very bloody and violent.I dont understand is that the school is in japan. But everybody speaks english and they call the girl the japanese girl. That is weird.Tell me if im wrong. Scott L. Skidmore - Mar 17 2002 Rating: Wonderful! Just too cool!! This was by far the best anime I've seen in I don't know how long.Only two problems. One is it's way too short. Two is that it is technically inaccurate in one small spot. At the end when the bomber takes off from the base the dialogue implies it is a B-52 bomber but it is clearly a B-47 stratojet which was out of service as a strategic bomber by 1966 (yeah I know picky picky I have no life) But don't let that stop you from renting or buying it. Renee M. L. - Aug 26 2002 i8myownhamster@netscape.net Rating: Pretty good! Good, but could use more depth. I really like this movie. There was alot of action and it had an all around good plot. This movie seemed to be cut off in the middle though. It could have been longer and definitally could have used a little more depth. The characters had little depth. The movie had just enough to be really good, but it could have used alot more. Francheska Aguinot - Dec 18 2002 contessavi@earthlink.net Rating: This sucked! Builds you up high and fast, then crashes all your hopes for it. This movie seemed like it was going to be cool. But after you get really into the movie and start to want to get more into it, you find out the movie is over. This is a waste of money! It would have made a good first episode, but as a stand alone movie I wanted to hurt someone after being let down so badly!! Tim Perper - Mar 28 2003 perpcorn@dca..net Rating: Wonderful! One of the best I've ever seen. Only 45 minutes long or so, done in CG and standard anime, with the muted, dark colors combining noir and horror, and with spoken English and Japanese (subtitled in English), "Blood The Last Vampire" is simply spectacular, a masterpiece. It's set in a USAF base in Japan in 1966, and has only three main characters -- Saya, a mysterious and probably not human young woman with a samurai sword, David, the only human she even remotely trusts, and a Japanese nurse working in the base high school. But then you have the chiropterans -- "oni" in Japanese -- ogres who kill and eat people. Saya doesn't like oni. In fact, she detests them ferociously -- and kills them when she can. "Blood" never lets up, and, because it is so short, there is not a wasted moment throughout the film. The ending is magnificent, but no spoilers! If you like noir or horror, you'll love this movie. And one last thing -- the story has its mysteries -- we never find out who Saya and David really are, or where they come from, just suddenly that Saya is pulling her sword out and hacking down monsters -- who also came out of nowhere. Or, actually, out of the dark folklore of Japan and the world. So, like any really good horror story, it's ultimately what we do NOT know that makes the story so successful, This one gets 5 out of 5 in my book. Love J. Bravo - Sep 20 2003 Rating: Wonderful! The Best of the Best This the best anime I have every seen, I only read the review and I fell in love. I fell in love with the whole the movie, I love the action, and anime, and charaters. The only thing that was wrong was that it was only 45 min long, and the Making of Blood Special was in Japanese and they will tell you why its so short. It has to do something with te CGI. But you have to buy a movie. I hope they come out with the Blood 2. IT RULES! ROY SANDOW - Aug 8 2007 ROYSCARTOON Rating: Pretty good! VERY AWESOME IT WAS A SHORT MOVIE, 45 MIN.
